kandrews, "Who decided that that was the end of all word that is "God breathed?" " The bishops of the Catholic Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, (John 16:3) in Councils which determined which books were of Apostolic origin and and constituted divinely insired revelation and were therefore Sacred Scripture. Other contending manuscripts were rejected as not divinely inspired revelation. The earliest list of the Canon of Scripture as we know it today was given at the Council of Hippo in North Africa in 393 A.D. Public Revelation ended with the death of the last of Apostles who were eye witnesses to Jesus Christ who is the Rvelation of God. Emmaus |

66 | Does Satan know my thoughts? | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 108608
JohantTide, " Is Satan "all knowing" , Does he know my thoughts? " No, Satan is not "all knowing." Only God is all knowing. Satan just wishes he was and likes it if people think he is all knowing. He can only tell what you you are thinking by what you say and do and how you act. But he knows all the basic weaknesses and evil proclivities of mankind from millenia of close observation and practice at seducing mankind in all kinds of situation. Emmaus |

69 | Is marriage necessary? | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 109791
Marriage is the sign of the committment. It is a Covenant oath by which a man and a woman committ their entire selves to one another, just as God committs Himself to us and we committ ourselves to Him. Interestingly, even in civil law a husband and wife in many ways become a single corporate entity like a corporation. "One body" so to speak for legal purposes. Now you might ask what is the difference between a Covenant and a contract. The difference is tha same as the difference between committment for life, for better or worse and a transaction between a man and a prostitute, a simple contract involving an anchanges of goods (money) for services (sex). In some ways sexual a relationship without the covenant of marriage is on an even lower level that an exchange with a prostitute. At least in that case there is a clear understanding of what is being exchanged, what each party's obligation is and how long the relationship will last. Kind of a sad commnentary on what has become a way of life in the world today don't you think? Emmaus |

71 | Is cremation right for believers? | Bible general Archive 2 | Emmaus | 110162
Ken John, You may appreciate two articles at links below. The first was written in 1911 for the Catholic Encyclopedia and the second in 1998 as an instruction on liturgical norms for Christian funerals and burial. Scripture itself does not anywhere forbid cremation, but tradition, both Jewish and Christian generally avoided it for reasons made clear in the first artcle. Burial vs. cremation is not an article of Dogma, but rather a discipline based on ancient traditonal practices. I hope they are of some help to you. Others may have other information and i look forward to their input also. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04481c.htm http://www.ewtn.com/library/CURIA/CDWCREMA.HTM Emmaus |

Jonny, I think once you are inside the Pearly gates everone will agree that salvation can not be lost. Before that point there are differing onpinions all support by various scripture passages that the two parties disagree about on interpretation. It seems wise to just cut to the chase on this line of questioning. You can see all the arguments in the archives by typing assurance of salavtion or eteranl security in the Quick Search box.
