http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/para/797.htm III. THE CHURCH IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT 797 "What the soul is to the human body, the Holy Spirit is to the Body of Christ, which is the Church."243 "To this Spirit of Christ, as an invisible principle, is to be ascribed the fact that all the parts of the body are joined one with the other and with their exalted head; for the whole Spirit of Christ is in the head, the whole Spirit is in the body, and the whole Spirit is in each of the members." The Holy Spirit makes the Church "the temple of the living God" (2 Cor 6:16; cf. 1 Cor 3:16-17; Eph 2:21) Indeed, it is to the Church herself that the "Gift of God" has been entrusted. . . . In it is in her that communion with Christ has been deposited, that is to say: the Holy Spirit, the pledge of incorruptibility, the strengthening of our faith and the ladder of our ascent to God. . . . For where the Church is, there also is God's Spirit; where God's Spirit is, there is the Church and every grace.24 (St. Irenaeus, Adv. haeres. 3,24,1:PG 7/1,966) http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p1s2c1p6.htm#362 II. "BODY AND SOUL BUT TRULY ONE" 362 The human person, created in the image of God, is a being at once corporeal and spiritual. The biblical account expresses this reality in symbolic language when it affirms that "then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." Man, whole and entire, is therefore willed by God. 363 In Sacred Scripture the term "soul" often refers to human life or the entire human person. But "soul" also refers to the innermost aspect of man, that which is of greatest value in him, that by which he is most especially in God's image: "soul" signifies the spiritual principle in man. 364 The human body shares in the dignity of "the image of God": it is a human body precisely because it is animated by a spiritual soul, and it is the whole human person that is intended to become, in the body of Christ, a temple of the Spirit:232 Man, though made of body and soul, is a unity. Through his very bodily condition he sums up in himself the elements of the material world. Through him they are thus brought to their highest perfection and can raise their voice in praise freely given to the Creator. For this reason man may not despise his bodily life. Rather he is obliged to regard his body as good and to hold it in honor since God has created it and will raise it up on the last day. 233 365 The unity of soul and body is so profound that one has to consider the soul to be the "form" of the body:234 i.e., it is because of its spiritual soul that the body made of matter becomes a living, human body; spirit and matter, in man, are not two natures united, but rather their union forms a single nature. 366 The Church teaches that every spiritual soul is created immediately by God - it is not "produced" by the parents - and also that it is immortal: it does not perish when it separates from the body at death, and it will be reunited with the body at the final Resurrection.235 367 Sometimes the soul is distinguished from the spirit: St. Paul for instance prays that God may sanctify his people "wholly", with "spirit and soul and body" kept sound and blameless at the Lord's coming.236 The Church teaches that this distinction does not introduce a duality into the soul.237 "Spirit" signifies that from creation man is ordered to a supernatural end and that his soul can gratuitously be raised beyond all it deserves to communion with God.238 . 232 St. Thomas Aquinas, STh III,48,2. 233 Acts of the Trial of Joan of Arc. 234 Jn 3:29. 235 Mk 2:19. 236 Cf. Mt 22:1-14; 25:1-13; 1 Cor 6:15-17; 2 Cor 11:2. 237 Cf. Rev 22:17; Eph 1:4; 5:27. 238 Eph 5:25-26. |

10 | What is God' economy? | Bible general Archive 3 | Emmaus | 164838
Nubeaux, "Economy" loosley translated means "household plan" God's economy is His plane of salvation for His family. "In the Symbol of the faith the Church confesses the mystery of the Holy Trinity and of the plan of God's "good pleasure" for all creation: the Father accomplishes the "mystery of his will" by giving his beloved Son and his Holy Spirit for the salvation of the world and for the glory of his name. (Eph 1:9) Such is the mystery of Christ, revealed and fulfilled in history according to the wisely ordered plan that St. Paul calls the "plan of the mystery"(Eph 3:9; cf 3:4) and the patristic tradition will call the "economy of the Word incarnate" or the "economy of salvation." http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p2.htm#1066 Go to the link below and type “economy of salavtion” into the search box for more. http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/ccc_toc2.htm Emmaus |

12 | Gifts of the holy ghost | Bible general Archive 3 | Emmaus | 166864
Wonbyone, We need Jesus. In Him is the fulness of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. When we are batized into Him we received the holy Spirit and His gifts. “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and they asked Peter and the other apostles, "What are we to do, my brothers?" “Peter (said) to them, "Repent and be baptized, 7 every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit. “For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call." “He testified with many other arguments, and was exhorting them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." “Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand persons were added that day. Acts 2:37-40 “Jesus answered, "Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.” John 3:5 “not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, he saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the holy Spirit,” Titus 3:5 " THE GIFTS AND FRUITS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ”The moral life of Christians is sustained by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These are permanent dispositions which make man docile in following the promptings of the Holy Spirit. ”The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. They belong in their fullness to Christ, Son of David.( Cf. Isa 11:1-2) They complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them. They make the faithful docile in readily obeying divine inspirations. ”Let your good spirit lead me on a level path.( Ps 143:10) For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God . . . If children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.( Rom 8:14,17) ”The fruits of the Spirit are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as the first fruits of eternal glory. The tradition of the Church lists twelve of them: "charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity."( Gal 5:22-23 (Vulg.).” The Catechism Emmaus |

18 | Why do Catholics pray to Mary | Bible general Archive 3 | Emmaus | 175489
tcl, Doctrinsograce suggested that I respond to your question since I am perhaps the only Catholic active on the forum over a long period of time. I will refer you to a thread from 2001 which I was involved in with Hank and some other members. That way you can get both sides of the conversation. Go to the Search box on the right side of the screen and enter the number 26328 and hour enter key. It will take you to the thread, which you can follow with the links shown as when you scrool dowwn the screen. But in a nutshell, praying "to" mary and the other saints, for a Catholic has to do with the communion of saints in Christ which is not broken by physical dead. It is like asking a friend to pray with you or for you. It's that simple. "Ther prayer of a righteous man ( or woman) availeth much" whether the righteous person is with us and in Christ or with Christ in heaven. That's how Catholics see it. Emmaus |
