4861 | A SIN TO FILE BANKRUPTCY | 1 Pet 4:10 | EdB | 130082
GB We were talking about Christians declaring bankruptcy, not Christians that have someone declare bankruptcy on a loan they had made. First Christians really shouldn't be loaning money as such but if they do and get caught holding the bag then yes they must forgive. However that still does not remove the obligation from the lender to make every effort to repay. EdB |

Emmaus I agree nothing appears to be sacred to the Credit card companies as they try any and all means to get you to take one of their cards. However being a "gun never killed anyone" type of guy. I don't think the problem is credit cards but rather problem is with the person using them. EdB |

Emmaus Good point!!!! Also I get credit card offers for cards from my old colleges. I won't name names but these are Bible Colleges sending out credit card offers or at least making their Alumni list available to the card company. EdB |

Angel A hardy Amen! As I said credit cards don't get people into trouble, people get into trouble misusing credit cards. Our value system is totally warped. We have learned to value things that decrease in value the minute we purchase them and disregard things that that will live on long after us. I'm drawn back to the Hebrew children of Daniel, they witnessed the horrors war, were lead off to captivity, subjected to the most inhuman treatments, most likely castrated, probably suffered other humiliation and ill treatment, but yet they showed a nation exceptional moral values that were instilled in them. We honor them for their faith and well we should, but we should also give ‘kudos’ to the parents that initially taught them. EdB |

Hank Many cards offer things like store gift cards, or a percent discount on the first purchase. If there is no limitations in the small print you can take advantage of the offer then destroy the card and write a letter to the company saying you disposed of the card and do not care to use it again. If you do this often enough you get put on a bad prospect list and will stop receiving many card offers. BE VERY CAREFUL some cards have in the small print restrictions and limitations that if you take advantage of the come on you are required to use the card so much or keep it so long etc. EdB |

Doc last night a respected general was asked if he felt our army was the caliber of those that fought in World War 2. His answer I believe touches what you are saying. His answer was of those that are currently enlisted, yes they are every bit as dedicated, brave and noble of those that won freedom in World War two but if the draft would ever have to be used the men drafted would destroy our army. He went on to explain the soldiers of World War 2 were products of the great depression, that they were forced to learn and appreciate the meaning of life and liberty. They learned to survive through hard work and sacrifice. They toiled not just for themselves but for fellow man that this country could emerge for the depression. This has been lost to following generations. I think most know or understand history and see that our direction is in a downward spiral but few have the backbone to stand and try to change it. It is easier to float down the water that carries this country into the cesspool we find ourselves, where Christianity can be openly mocked while to do likewise to Islam would show intolerance and bigotry. Pastors can be belittled and vilified but celebrities are sought for wisdom and advice. We are now letting actors advise us on our political picks as if they have wisdom we do not possess. As I said in my previous post on another subject what we pay nothing for, we hold not value of, nor are we willing to protect it. We only treasure what costs us and what we have worked for. That is how we are wired as humans and God is well aware of that and I believe, even though this may fly in the face of free grace, true salvation requires much of us. |

John I hear you and I agree, as you have said the "bickering" can serve a purpose. It has accomplished much in my life. I had a very naive view of certain doctrine that came out of the reformation. I once actually defended a position to my own harm that I now believe that position to be so totally wrong I view it as heretical. I really never understood how convoluted a doctrine it was even when others tried to show me. I kept saying it can’t that far off they are Christians also, but now through our “bickering” you have shown me how wrong I was. Thanks I wish I would have known then what I know now I would have never defended it. EdB |

“If you write to your Aunt Mildred, would you think that anyone other than Aunt Mildred should interpret what you have written with the intent of her interpretation?†Great Illustration! Let us take it a step further: Now suppose your Aunt read these letters for 1500 years interpreting them as she believed you meant them, then one day a group of “enlightened individuals†came to Aunt Mildred and said you have been reading these letters all wrong! Your logic and your intellect should tell you that what the writer meant was totally different than your interpretation. You must be weak minded to have missed this or you had a hidden agenda. However on further research we find the people that are saying this are the ones that have an agenda. Now suppose we look at the situation almost 600 years after the fact the people that tried to destroy Aunt Mildred’s reading of the letter are still around but very much in the minority to those that agree with most parts of Aunt Mildred’s reading of the letter. Yet those that oppose Aunt Mildred interpretation refuse to accept that some people really don’t care how they interpret the letters to Aunt Mildred because they see much more important issues to be dealt with. Yet the protesters of Aunt Mildred’s interpretation will not stop trying to shame people into their way of thinking. They will even challenge a person’s belief system, their walk through life and even their intelligence in an effort to render Aunt Mildred’s interpretation of the letter invalid. |

I think the original illustration said, “If you write to your Aunt Mildred, would you think that anyone other than Aunt Mildred should interpret what you have written with the intent of her interpretation?†Are now to understand that God gave us men down through history to help us understand what a letter written to Aunt Mildred should have read to Aunt Mildred? Wasn’t the hue and cry of the Enlightened Generation that every man was capable of understanding for himself what scripture was saying? Why do these men have a better understanding than any other man? Does this not neglect that for 1500 before this Aunt Mildred and others did read and understand but then the Enlightened Ones said oh no you have it all wrong it is like this? Again Aunt Mildred had received the letter, had read it for herself and had lived by her interpretation of that letter for 1500 years. Then one day “Enlighten individuals†came on the scene and said, “Oh Aunt Mildred you have it all wrong, here is what these letters are really saying.†When Aunt Mildred questioned the Enlightened ones they told her she was using mysticism and low view of the letter and that a high view without the mysticism the letter said thus and such. However Aunt Mildred and almost everyone agreed with Aunt Mildred had interpreted from the letters were in fact correct and that they should now worry about what others said. However those that disagreed with Aunt Mildred refused to let the issue die and even now 600 years later they still demand they are right and everyone else is wrong. |

4872 | The Word Gifted to the People of God | 2 Pet 1:17 | EdB | 243925
Scripture is supreme, scripture stands on it’s own, most importantly scripture is living it conveys to it’s readers today just as it did in the thousands of years in the past. Scripture never changes. What changes is the conclusions (theology) man draws from scripture. The church had a theology that existed 1500 years, was it perfect? NO! Far from it but it was based on scripture. Then one day a group of Enlightened men decided that the existing theology gleaned from scripture was wrong and they set down to detail the differences, they used great flowing words, eloquent speech, a form of wordsmithing rarely seen before. Their presentation of their theology appealed to man, it tickled their ears and more importantly it seemed more logical and intellectual. There was great debate, men on both sides of the issue lost their lives. End result division. A divide that has been there for over 600 years with no progress from either side, with one exception a majority of the believers stayed with original theology, they made needed corrections, discarded some parts they believed were man made but basically they believed as they had before the division. However the other side refuses to accept this. They demand they are correct. That their conclusion (theology) of scripture is the only correct conclusion (theology) and for over 2000 years every one else is wrong. That brings us to today. Scripture has not changed, the words have not changed or modified yet today we have various schools of theology. Why, I am not sure but I do know that some make accusations against those that do not agree with them and scripture clearly tells us to, “Do unto others as we would have them do unto us.†Enough said. |

Actually the point is to teach, but within established theology, not trying to change theology or altering established truths. Scripture gives us that truth and it has been taught for thousands of years not just the last 600. God established His doctrines, His ways, His standards, His precepts, His commands that and that alone is what we are to teach. Not our own brand of theology that manufactures characteristics of God that aren’t seen in scripture. All teaching must be true to scripture not to the theology of a man. No matter how brilliant that man he was not called to establish doctrine contrary to who God is, contrary to God’s standards, precepts or demands. Man can never put words in God’s mouth nor should he try to use his intellect or logic to convolute a loving God. I don’t trail just any man I only trail Jesus who brings light to the darkness. |

Oh I read everything you have posted. I just don't buy what you are posting. I am not parroting anything, I am simply saying the differences in our theology have existed for 600 years, people far wiser and more knowledgeable than you or I have argued the differences without resolution for those 600 years. Further these differences will not be settled here so why must you pick the scab of those differences. There are far greater issues, bigger problems and lost souls dying and going to hell. I know about what you are facing and I have been praying about it. I would have liked to have conveyed my concern to you by email but you know that is not possible. Blessings to you. |

Notice in Job 32:1 it was the friends that were wrong. The two verses in Proverbs are excellent but who do they apply to? I'm sure either side looks at the other as the fool. The problem is arguing over theology. Both sides believe they have the truth and the other is wrong. Better to live Christ like and let man made theology alone. Only a fool insists theology and denominational doctrine must be discussed in arena that was made to cater to all orthodox theologies and denominations.
4877 | The Word Gifted to the People of God | 2 Pet 1:17 | EdB | 243938
That statement is untrue and unfair. Yes there has always been heresies but the major change came when social/political/religion entities came together and decided to construct new theologies. Are these theologies all wrong? No! I never said they were. What I said is they did however open doors that never before existed and never should have been opened. End result division within the body of Christ and the appearance of confusion within the body by the observing world. The real problem is this forum was not constructed to fairly allow denominational differences in discussions/debates. That is the exact reason why the Terms of Useage says there should not be any attempt to push a denominational agenda. However there are those among us that insist they must denigrate other denominations within the forum at the expense of this forum. I say make all discussions of the difference in denominations and theology doctrine cease. We should be standing united not discussing the things that divide us. My humble opinion! However that opinion has been mocked, ridiculed and it has been attempted to make it look foolish unlearned, unread, and without thought. Sad! |

Beja If theology is considered to be valid within the scope of orthodox Christianity should it be called wrong? Or simply different. I am no talking of cultic theology but Protestant theology that does not stray the boundaries of orthodoxy. Differences can and will be seen but to label them as anything other than differences usually leads to misunderstandings, arguements, hurt feeling and outright nastiness. To refuse to down play those differences and in fact to focus upon them leads to strife, division and the appearance to the unknowing as confusion and division.. |

"It seems odd, that certain men who talk so much of what the Holy Spirit reveals to themselves, should think so little of what he has revealed to others" Great Quote! Great defense for commentaries. However we must consider that if you go into a library and walk over to the commentary section, approx half the commentaries will be in direct conflict with the other half. And if you picked 10 commentaries at random you would have a strong likelihood of each of them contradicting each of the others of the group on at least one important issue of doctrine or theology. So is it a despise for commentaries or the realization that everyone has an opinion and commentaries are nothing more than the written opinion of a man or like minded people? |
