The Biblical, or prophetic year had twelve months each of thirty days, a total of 360 days in all. See Revelation Chapters 12, and 13, where a period of three and a half years is given in three different ways firstly at Ch 12 v 6 as 1260 days, at Ch 12 v 14 as "a time, and times, and half a time.", and at Ch 13 v 5 as "forty-two months". Confirmation of this seems to be given in Genesis at Ch 7 v 11, where we are told, "in the second month, on the seventeenth day", and in Ch 8 vs 3-4, where reference is made to the seventeenth day of the seventh month, and also of 150 days, for a period of five months, I hope that this is of some help to you. ebrain. |

48 | Please explain please the Trinity. | Bible general Archive 3 | ebrain | 184842
I hope the following will be of help to you. Subject: Jesus is God. Jesus is God, but He is also man at the same time. Have a look at Isaiah Ch 48 vs 12-16, but don't read the whole of v 16, just yet, read only, "Draw near to me, hear this: from the beginning I have not spoken in secret, from the time it came to be I have been there" (ESV). Now ask yourself, Who is speaking?, the answer can only be, the Lord our GOD, now read the rest of v 16, "And now the Lord GOD has sent me, and his Spirit." it is clear then that the one speaking in the first part of this verse must be our Lord Jesus, and none other. Read Matthew Ch 28 v 19, "in the name" not "names", one name, three persons. Now try Colossians Ch 2 v 9, "For in him the whole fullness of Deity dwells bodily" (ESV). That is to say, all there is of the Father, all there is of the Son, and all there is of the Holy Spirit dwelling inside the body of the Lord Jesus Christ. As I have said before, and will no doubt say again, don't try to understand it, just believe it, God has given you the faith to believe, so use it. The human mind is totally incapable of comprehending the Trinity, or the Deity of Jesus, so don't try. Remember "Without faith, it is impossible to please God". Better rendered as "Without exercising faith". All Scripture verses quoted are from the English Standard Version, unless otherwise stated. At John Ch 14 v 9, Jesus said "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. John Ch 1 v 18 , reads "No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known". or "the only one, who is God"; some manuscripts "the only Son". Note, the Translator's preference is all ways shown in the main text, with possible alternative renderings relegated to footnotes as above. Now have a look at John Ch 8, vs 24, 28, and 58. Here Jesus identifies Himself three times as "I AM", not "I am he" as some Bible's put it, "he" does not appear in the original Greek. the two words are "EGO IME" and are taken from the Septuagint, a Greek translation of the OT made about 300 BC. These two words are taken from Exodus Ch 3 v 14, where God told Moses, "Say this to the people of Israel. I AM has sent me to you"... This is the most Sacred, and Holy name/description of the Lord our God it means "I HAVE BEEN WHAT I HAVE BEEN,I AM THAT/WHAT I AM, and I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE". This Title was also understood by the Jews to mean "The perpetually self revealing all existent one". It was considered so sacred by the Jews, that they were forbidden to pronounce it, when reading Scripture publicly. There was no doubt in the minds of those who heard Jesus, that He was claiming to be God. John 10:17-18. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. Note. Only God can raise Himself back from the dead. Who did Isaiah really see? Isa 6:1 IN the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Isa 6:2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. Isa 6:3 And one cried to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!" Isa 6:4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. Isa 6:5 So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." John referring to this passage said. Jhn 12:37 But although He had done so many signs before them, they did not believe in Him, Jhn 12:38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?"* Jhn 12:39 Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: Jhn 12:40 "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, Lest they should see with their eyes, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them."* Jhn 12:41 These things Isaiah said when* he saw His glory and spoke of Him So then just who did Isaiah see? Jhn 5:21 "For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. Jhn 5:22 "For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, Jhn 5:23 "that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. ebrain. |

Hi God's-elect You have said, "You cannot choose God". If this is the case, then please explain, "choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve", as in the verse below? Jos 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." Are you suggesting that God speaking through Joshua is asking the people to do what God knows full well they cannot do? ebrain. |

51 | Can a christian go to hell? | Bible general Archive 3 | ebrain | 185228
The persons refereed to at this verse, and the next, are not born again Christians. Please read both verses, and then read my comments which follow. Mat 7:22 "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' Mat 7:23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' Firstly, no real genuine article born again Christian would dream of boasting of what they have done when they meet the Lord Jesus. Secondly Jesus said, "I never knew you", which means that He never entered into their body in the person of His other self, the Holy Spirit, therefore, this person was never a believer, despite what he says. Note, be very careful, just because a person has done many wonders in His name, that does not mean that he is the real thing, remember the Devil can appear like an angel of light. 2Cr 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 2Cr 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 2Cr 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. Jesus is using the expression "knew you", in the Biblical sense, see Gen 4:1 NOW Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have acquired a man from the LORD." See also, Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14 who* is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. I hope that this is of help to you. ebrain |

Thank you Apollos for your input. Perhaps, what follows may be of assistance. Subject: Born Again. Is born again that which a person becomes upon receiving the Lord Jesus as his own personal saviour, or is it what God must do to a person to enable him/her to receive Jesus ?. PS I am not a Calvinist. Sincerely yours. Edwin Brain. Without question the biggest single problem that the church has is an abysmal lack of in depth Bible teaching. For example when a born again Christian is not even able to explain exactly just what is meant by "Born again" how can he possibly communicate the Gospel to the un-saved ?. Let me explain, The unconverted are spiritually dead, see. 1Cr 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. This of course all happened at "The fall", see. Gen 2:17 "for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.".. This is an incorrect translation, as it should read, "for in the day that you eat of it, dying you shall die". That is to say, two deaths, spiritual death at the moment you eat thereof, followed by physical death in due course. Have a look at Jhn 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. Jhn 6:65 And He said, "Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father." Now read. Mat 16:16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Mat 16:17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. Mat 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it Note, "Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven" You are petros and upon this petra I will build my church" ie each member of my church will have what you Peter have just had, that is direct divine intervention into their lives, enabling them to accept me for who I am. The one and only "I AM" He who died that they might live. How can any flesh be saved, read, Mat 19:25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" Mat 19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Now lets have a look at. Jhn 3:5-6, Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Jhn 3:6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. But first a suitable background against which to view the revenant words, Let us say two different worlds, or two different modes of existence, what about Physical life, and Spiritual life. Now then how did you get into this physical world. Well you were born into it weren't you?. Now exactly how much contribution did you make to your physical birth, non whatsoever you owe your existence entirely to the activity of another, namely your human father. Likewise your arrival into the spiritual world (If you are to get there) will be due entirely to the activity of another, namely, the Lord our God, who will then be your heavenly Father. The water refereed to in v 5 of John 3, is of course amniotic fluid which is required to be born of the flesh refereed to in the next verse. In fact using Hebrew parallelism, v 6 in given in order to clear up any doubt as to exactly what is meant by water in v 5. To sum up therefore it is clear from the text that it is impossible to be saved, unless one is first born again into the spiritual world, thus enabling one to understand the way of salvation, and thereby to receive Jesus as ones own personal Saviour.. Born again can also be translated as born from above, ie born of God. My Conversion follows. May the Lord bless you all. Edwin Brain. |

Subject: My Conversion. I was nearly 30 years old when the Lord saved me. For most of that time I was either agnostic, atheist, or indifferent. For as long as I can remember I have always had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. How does this work?. How does that work?. What makes people what they are?. When my school boy friends were out playing games like cricket, football,or chasing girls, I would be found in the local library reading room finding out as much as I could about my latest interest. With a name like Brain, and my interests it is no wonder I got the nickname Professor, or Mr know it all. I did not really care what they called me, I was a loner. I would do my own thing in my own way. I particularly enjoyed a battle of wits with anyone, as I always won, or at least I thought so. I especially looked out for people of a Religious disposition, as I really enjoyed exercising my superior knowledge, and shooting them down in flames as it were, but then one day in the late summer of 1961 when looking out of the office window where I worked, I saw in our car park a Bedford mini bus with the words "Even Christ pleased not himself" written on its side in letters of gold 3" high. I enquired whose this was, and the owner was pointed out to me. I made my mind up there and then that he would be my next victim. I met a man at work 43 years ago, and to cut a long story short he invited me to his home, to which I went for 8 successive Friday evenings, I was very much impressed with this man, he is very well educated, and also very sincere. He wanted me to become a Christian like him, and kept on asking me if I was yet ready to receive Jesus as my saviour. I told him I could say the words he wanted me to, but I knew that I would not mean it, not that I did not want to, I did, but I knew that it would not work if I didn't mean it. The problem was the enormity of my sin, which I considered to great for God to forgive. It was near to midnight, and his wife and his 5 children were all in bed. At this point the Lord caused his youngest child a girl of about 18 months to cry, he excused himself and left the room, saying I don't want my wife to be disturbed, I will go and see what is the matter. This left me alone as it were, I said to myself this man wants me to become a Christian like him, well maybe someday I will. but if I ever do then I will have to do what they do, they pray, and I don't know how to pray. I wondered what to do next, I had opened the bible a number of times whilst visiting my friend, and often found the verses that I read spoke to me powerfully, often dealing with the particular problem that I had in my mind at that moment. Now I opened it once again at random, and found myself reading Luke Ch 11 from v 1. "Teach me how to pray". The Lord spoke to me in His still small voice, and said "Why am I doing this, why am I as it were taking time off from running this vast universe to come down into this room to be with you to cause you to open my book just where I want you to open it, to read the very verse that I want you to read that tells you that I know just what your problem is, if as you say your sin is too great for me to forgive?. I had no answer for this, and with tears streaming down my face I looked up and said "Because you love me" That is how I became a Christian. The date of my conversion was the 8th of December 1961, although I did mention 8 successive Friday evenings. As I feel sure you know, 8 is the Biblical number indicating "Fresh start, new beginning". Although all this happened more than 45 years ago, it is only recently that I have seen the connection. Every blessing. Edwin. (ebrain) |

Hi Hobbs. You have said. "Now, why do I believe that what I have just said is true. Allow me to list just two verses for starts. Rom 3:10 as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; Rom 3:11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;" Hobbs But what about the four words that immediately precede your Scripture quotation, namely Rom 3:10 As it is written: Now I wonder, could it possibly be that Paul might just be referring to existing Scripture of around 1000 years old at the time he wrote Romans?.. What about. Psa 14:1 PSALM 14 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. THE fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. Psa 14:2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Psa 14:3 They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. Psa 14:4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the LORD? Psa 14:5 There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous. Psa 14:6 You shame the counsel of the poor, But the LORD is his refuge. Psa 14:7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. Psa 53:1 PSALM 53 To the Chief Musician. Set to "Mahalath." A Contemplation* of David. THE fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none who does good. Psa 53:2 God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Psa 53:3 Every one of them has turned aside; They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. Psa 53:4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon God? Psa 53:5 There they are in great fear Where no fear was, For God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you; You have put them to shame, Because God has despised them. Psa 53:6 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. Pay special attention to verse 4, in each case, and tell me is David referring to the entire human race at all times in history, or just those who were the enemies of Israel at that time? ebrain. |

Hi Apollos. Thank you for your post.. What Paul has to say in Romans Chapter 3, has to be considered within the context of what he had already said in Ch 2, an extract from which is given bellow. Rom 2:6 who "will render to each one according to his deeds":* Rom 2:7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; Rom 2:8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath, Rom 2:9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; Rom 2:10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Rom 2:14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, Rom 2:15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them) Please note especially verses 7, and 14-15.. I do not see how it is possible for "eternal life", to be given to anyone described by who Paul at. Rom 3:10 As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; Rom 3:11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. He cannot possibly with these last verses be referring to all mankind at all times in history, otherwise he would be contradicting himself. I believe that all Paul is doing here in these two Chapters, is contrasting "Gentile", behavior with, "Jewish" behavior. The Jews who had the Oracles of God should have known better. A possible explanation for Ch 2, could be found at. Act 8:30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" Act 8:31 And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. Act 10:2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. Act 10:3 About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, "Cornelius!" Act 10:4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, "What is it, lord?" So he said to him, "Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. Act 10:5 "Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. Please compare the following extracts, and tell me if you think there is a connection? Was Cornelius saved because of Merit? "eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;" "Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God." Every blessing. Edwin. Hi Mark. What follows might be of some help. as always, I shall value your comments thereon. There are parallels in the Scriptures between how things are done in the physical world, and how things are done in the spiritual world, there is an order and a sequence, A comes before B, and never B before A. All human life starts with conception.. A seed is planted, then some 40 weeks or so later on a child is born.. The child can do nothing in the physical world until after it is born into it. 1Cr 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. The natural man needs to be born into the spiritual world, before he is able to receive the things of the Spirit of God, only then will he be able to benefit from what he reads. How is this done? Well ones ability to participate in the spiritual world takes exactly the same order and sequence, firstly the Lord plants His seed (not the Holy Spirit) into a person, this is sometimes referred to as "Re-generation", ie, the making alive again of the human spirit, the spirit that died in Adam at the fall. The natural man is now able to understand the Word, it now makes sense to him, the period of gestation is not revealed, it might be a long time, or a short time, but re-birth, never, never, proceeds re-generation. Have a look now at. Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand, NKJ. Note especially, "When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days," If I go into my back garden, and plant a seed, I cannot see it as it is bellow the surface, but in due time up comes a small green shoot, and I say "I can see my seed", what I mean of course is I can now see the result of having planted that seed in the first place. When Jesus sees you offering His soul for your sin, He is able to prolong His days, by taking up residence inside you, in the person of His other self, the Holy Spirit. His seed, that is God's Seed remains in you see. 1Jo 3:9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. Every blessing. Edwin. |

Hi Apollos. You said. "I would also want to say that if he was seeking God before this (as he clearly was) it could only have been because God had begun to work in his heart to bring him to himself. Without that work of God no one would ever seek for God." Now have a look at. Job 1:8 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?" Job 1:9 So Satan answered the LORD and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Job 1:10 "Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land Tell me did Job fear God of his own free will, or as Satan said, because of what God had done for Job, when the Lord gave Satan permission to take away the blessing? And what about these verses. Eze 18:32 "For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies," says the Lord GOD. "Therefore turn and live!" Eze 33:11 "Say to them: 'As I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?' Eze 18:21 "But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. Eze 18:22 "None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. Eze 18:23 "Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?" says the Lord GOD, "and not that he should turn from his ways and live? Do you mean to tell me that God said the above, knowing full well that it is an imposibility for any man to "turn from his ways and live?" |

Hi again Mark. and thank you for your input. You said. "As I use the terms "regeneration" and "re-birth", I am speaking of exactly the same thing by both. It is this deliverance that we speak of when we say "salvation." Salvation is an ongoing process that includes "regeneration", there is an order and sequence of events, for example, you are saved, you are being saved, you will be saved, sanctification is also included, whereas, "conversion", on the other hand, is a once and for all never to be repeated moment it time, You have done what Romans 10:9, tells you to do, You know that you are saved, that all your sins have been forgiven, that you have become a Christian, you now have a new life. Regeneration is what The Lord has done to you in advance, in order that you might be able to understand "Spiritual things", and therefore be able to do what Rom 10:9. tells you to do.. You go on to say. "I'm not certain. I want to be clear in what I believe. You wrote something rather intriguing: "firstly the Lord plants His seed (not the Holy Spirit)". The reason is that the Holy Spirit dose not take up residence within you, until you do what is required at,, Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, You do not receive the Holy Spirit, until you believe, and you cannot believe if God has not first planted His seed in you, therefore the Holy Spirit cannot possibly be the seed, I have already dealt with this problem to some extent when you asked a question about,, Eph 1:4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, and I explained at the time just how it was possible for you to be "in Him". long before you were born. Every blessing brother. Edwin. |
