I'd like to just throw in a few more scriptures as follows Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me--put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. 1 Thes 5:22 Avoid every kind of evil Rom 14:22 So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin. After being reminded of all these verses including Hank's I don't really see how you or anyone could possibly even think about defending the actions as you're suggesting in your post. Even in a monestary, the gentlemen know better than to tempt fate and God by placing a young man and woman in such a precarious position as described in your post. A person has no right to try to influence another person to sin. Everything about your proposal flashes a danger sign so I would urge you to stop and consider the consequences. In the sense of the word prophet meaning "mouthpiece for God" as it did in the OT, the answer is yes. Jesus was the perfect mouthpiece for since He knew His Father so well. He was then and is now in perfect synce with His Father. This is clearly shown in Matt 3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." Since the Bible doesn't deal directly with this subject, I can only give you the benefit of my experience. This Sep 04, my wife and I will be celebrating 29 years of marriage, our first and only marriage for both of us. We've both had our share of ups and downs, with each other and with our boys. We were kinda young, she at 17 and me at 21 when we got married. And if I had to live my life to live over, I wouldn't change a thing. You see, I was headed for a life of sin and disobedience to God in spite of my upbringing, as I was brought up in a christian home. My wife was the best person in the world for me, as she has the strong personality needed to keep me straight and out of trouble. She doesn't hesitate to remind me of that upbringing and my responsibility to my Lord. We talk, pray and go to worship together at the same congregation. I say that because I can't possibly imagine a person having a good, solid relationship with God, our Father and NOT having an equally good solid relationship in the same faith with his/her spouse. In my opinion, it would be impossible to be truly happy in such a situation. But it's difficult to communicate that to a young person. I see in your profile that you're 17 years old and you seem to be unusally mature to be participating and posting this much on the Forum. So I can only make this recommendation. Do yourself a favor and promise God that you will do everything in your power to marry a christian lady and I emphasize "lady" as she should act, think and behave as a christian lady should. The best way to make certain you marry a christian is to date only christians. BUT if you meet someone special and decide she's for you and then discover she's not a christian, sure you can always convert her. But, quite often it doesn't happen quite that easy. Again, do yourself a favor and promise God, IF you do date a young lady who's not a christian, get her in God's Family BEFORE you marry her. Because after you marry her, it needs to be with the attitude it's for life. Remember, a lifetime of happiness is at stake. AND it could be possible as Solomon found out that an ungodly person just might draw you away from God forever. It's not worth the risk to do otherwise, but that's my recommendation. Most scholars agree the New Testament was written in Greek for maximum distribution throughout the known world in the 1st and 2nd centuries. 2.a) Singing from Col 3:16, b) Preaching from 1 Cor 1:23-24, c) Praying from Acts 16:25, d) Giving from 1 Cor 16:1-2 e) Communion from 1 Cor 11:23-26 3. a) Hearing (Understanding) the Gospel Message from Rom 10:14, b) Believe that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the Living God from Acts 16:31, c) Repent of one's sins turning their lives around to live as a obedient disciple of God and His Son from Acts 2:38, d) Confess in public the Name of Jesus as Lord and Savior from Rom 10:9-10, e) Be Baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost from Matt 28:19, f) Be faithful till death from Rev 2:10 4. In THE ultimate confrontation when we meet up with almost unbearable circumstances like that of our beloved example in Job and his wife encouraged him to "Curse God and die," we must hold fast to the last and really only thing that matters most and that is our faith in God. All else pales in significance. HOWEVER, I doubt that you really are anywhere close to that level of suffering as Job and he came through it like a champ. Go to your wife and start a dialouge, open up to her and encourage her to do likewise. Identify the weak areas of your lives together and seek God's assistance through study of His Word AND constant prayer. If both of you pray together and often, you'll be well on your way to great improvement. If the doctor has given up on you, go to another doctor and get a second opinion or maybe even a third but if you're convinced there's nothing more to be said from the medical community, then you really need to put your trust in Him. IF it's God's will, then He can heal you. If not, then count your blessings and each precious moment, especially with those whom you love. We'll pray for you and encourage you as best we can. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way. 11 Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water? But somehow, I suspect you already knew about this verse but just in case...Isn't it a wondeful thing? Now we can use our "tongue" to communicate through the telephone, television, radio, mail and now even the internet. Praise the Lord for giving mankind such an intellect. For me personally, I recommend that you start with the NT, starting with Matthew and read on through Revelation. It also helps if you have a good reliable version such as the New King James or the New American Standard. I recommend starting with the NT because it's so important to the modern christian and child of God. Also upon reading the NT, you can jot down notes and/or questions for later study and analysis. In this study of the NT, one must include the OT as a solid reference as many disciples and christians throughout the NT refer to OT concepts and/or principles that can only be fully understood from the ancient Hebrew perspective. The most important item of encouragement I would give you is to remember that it's the Words of Jesus and His official representatives, the Apostles by which we'll be judged on Judgment Day. I say this is contrasted with the guidance from the OT, for there are just a few minor differences between the two. The OT has no place of authority in the spiritual life of the modern christian but let me re-emphasize the word AUTHORITY. So that means in those few areas of contrast between the two, we must give preference to adhering to the NT. Once you start reading the OT, read it all the way through to the last minor prophet. Although some portion of the Bible slows down and gets a little rough to "slog" through, it's well worth the reading. I can only quote as follows from Jesus Himself Matt 6:5 "When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 6 "But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. 7 "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. 8 "So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. As you can see in verse 8 and that's the main point of my post as I've been taught: Since the Lord already knows what we want AND need, prayer really doesn't do that much good directly for Him. Although I can't think of a specific scripture that would say as much, I've been taught that prayer is really intended for our benefit. In principle I think we can draw on the example from God's giving of the Ten Commandments. Of those 10 wonderful commands, only the first four were directed to God for His direct glory, the latter six were really for the benefit of mankind so we could and would be motivated to glorify God. When we as human beings take the time and make the effort to pray to God on a regular basis, we build up our relationship with Him just as we do with our earthly parent. In so doing, we think about what we are saying and invest a considerable portion of time and effort in seeing the accomplishment of our requests. So what am I saying here? I'm glad you ask. I'm saying that just as our earthly parents expect us to fend for ourselves as much as possible, our God expects us to grow up spiritually, and realize we really have very few needs that go unmet and our desires really should be held to a minimum. Thus as our thinking AND our priorities align themselves closer and closer with God's kind of thinking and priorities, we realize He's taken very good care of us and will continue to do so throughout our lives. Of course this is based on our continued maintenance of this dialouge/relationship with Him AND maintaining a healthy relationship with His other children, our fellow christians. To understand this basic principle, one has to remember that God doesn't really need ANYTHING from us. He's all-powerful in every way imagineable. (I know you know this but sometimes we all forget.) People that spend much of their lives in prayer are the closest to God for they are the ones who also study His Word to seek out the answers. You see most of God's answers are in His Holy Book; I don't think we're going to get a lot of answers from God anywhere else. I'd be the last person in the world to absolutely eliminate this option but I think that God (again) really expects us to grow up and not rely on a special, specific and individual response to our prayer. He wants us to grow and realize He's the Father of this whole world and everything in it. You, me and all the other people in the world, we're just His creation. To quote a phrase: "He made us and He can take us out." We have to realize our puny place and rank in this gigantic world of God's, most especially His spiritual world. As I've said there's bare minimal amount of scripture I can offer in support of this statement but then you're used to that from me already, huh? Good question, there fella. Good to hear from you. I don't think the phrase "sold out" is anywhere in the Bible as I just tried searching for it but the modern concept certainly is in the Bible, four times that I can recall. 1) Esau sold out his birthright for a pot of beans to his brother in Gen 25. 2) Jacob's 10 (w/o Reuben's blessing) sons sold out their brother, Joseph to the Midianite traders to get rid of him, in Gen 37. 3) Judas sold out his Lord and Master, Jesus to the Jewish Priests for 30 pieces of silver, Matt 27. 4) Ananias and Sapphira sold out their souls to Satan for a certain sum of money and to share in the fame of Barnabas, Acts 5. So these verses cite stories of folks who sold out something. What does the phrase really mean to them? It seems clear that they took something that really was a gift from God but they were stewards of the gift (like you and I are of today's world) and sold it for a very cheap price. Every time the seller ends up regretting making such a deal and they find out the true value and still get stuck paying the ultimate price for "the wages of sin is death." One can only hope to be given the opportunity to repent like Esau and Joseph's brothers were given. The big question for most of us: will we actually repent before or after Judgment Day. We're ALL assured that everyone's knee (including Satan's) will bow at the Lord on Judgment Day. What does this phrase mean to you? God bless. --Rowdy |

In addition to the good advice, you've received, I thought I throw in something from a father of a young boy literally addicted to this problem. Maybe just a little history. My older son started at the sweet age of 16 at the habit of calling 900 and 800 numbers and listening to the sweet whispered nothings from girls so as to satisfy his lusts and ran up a bill of literally thousands of dollars in phone bills. I called the phone company after receiving these bills and assured them no one in my family was capable of doing such a thing; this was done before I found out it was my son. A few months later, after he turned 17, he started doing it again and we had words. I offered to take him to the gym and put the boxing gloves to work because I was just about ready to kill him. His mother, my wife was the only thing that saved that boy from some serious pain as far as I was concerned. You see when he was 16, I went to bat for him and finally got that huge phone bill resolved in our favor, but he promised me that he wouldn't do that again. So as you can imagine, he's been in therapy every since. Once a week, he goes to a group session and they talk about their weakness and ways of dealing with their addiction. That's right, I called it correctly an addiction. Hopefully, you should be able to find such a group in your community. If not, we'll pray for you. By the way, my son is now married, has been for more than two years. He and his wife have problems now and again but they work through them with God's help and maybe just a little assistance from me and his mother. We're trying our best to stay of their way and let them grow up on their own like my parents did. It's tough but it can be done. Well, I really hope this helps you because it's quite humbling to me. The only time that we know for certain God created people was in the beginning with Adam and Eve. As far as we can tell, everyone else was born in the traditional manner, inlcuding all those who lived after the flood. So I guess within that context, the answer to your question is Yes, all people on earth came from the 3 sons of Noah. But in answer to your question about Jews and Gentiles, No, prejudice between these two groups didn't arise until after the establishment of Israel as a nation. Sometime between then and the coming of Christ, they had built up a tremendous amount of jealousy for their God and didn't want to share Him with the rest of the world. As a matter of fact, it looks as though the Jews were completely satisfied with keeping Christianity to themselves until the persecution forced them to flee. That and the advent of Paul as an Apostle seems to be the only reason Christianity spread to the rest of the world. God made this very plain in Acts 10, that He wanted the whole world to partake of the gift of salvation as provided in the Lord's Last Will and Testament. Two major events in this Chapter 10 support this view: the Holy Spirit's baptism of Corneilus and his household AND Peter's vision.
