41 | Why Saul did not recognize David? | 1 Samuel | azurelaw | 189521
1 Samuel 16:18-23 and 17:33-39 Described that Saul had met David and knew whose son was he (especially in v. 21-23). Why did Saul appeared to be not knowing David at all in chapter 17 v. 58 when they met again? Was Saul so old that his memory was poor? Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |

43 | 1 Chr 10:14 contradicts 1 Sam 28:6 | 1 Sam 15:11 | azurelaw | 243071
1 Chr 10:14 mentioned that Saul did not inquire of the Lord, thus he was killed. However, this conclusion contradicts to the description on 1 Sam 28:6. Can anyone explain? Your help is very much appreciated. Shalom Azure |

44 | David's sons' priestly status | 2 Sam 8:18 | azurelaw | 243690
"...David's son were chief ministers." The Hebrew also has the meaning of "priest(s)". According to Amplified 2015 Translator's Notes:Even though the Hebrew word for priests is used in this verse, David's sons would not serve as priests because they were from the tribe of Judah, not Levi. The ancient rabbis interpreted the statement to mean that the sons enjoyed some priestly privileges. I also think it unlikely that David would assign his sons to the office of priest for they are not of Levi tribe. Interestingly, my newest revised Chinese Union Version discarded the word "chief ministers"in their old version and use "priests" instead. I guess we might not get a definite answer as to whether they really took the priestly office or it is just an exaggerated expression by the author about their honorable status. Now my question: Taken the Amplified 2015 Translators' note into consideration, anywhere in the Bible mentions about any priestly privileges enjoyed by David's sons? Thank you and Shalom Azure |

45 | David's conspiracy on Uriah | 2 Sam 11:15 | azurelaw | 174034
2 Samuel verses 14 to 27 Can someone help to answer my following 2 questions? 1/ Joab received order from David to set Uriah up in the fiercest place to get him killed. Joab did follow David's instruction. Then why did Joab think the king would be angry with him? Why did he not just simply report to David that Uriah was killed in the battle? 2/ In David's reply to Joab's messenger, David told Joab not to be upset. What for was Joab upset about? Thanks in advance for all your help. |

46 | David's sin | 2 Sam 12:7 | azurelaw | 236925
As I reread the chapter, I realized that Nathan's story to denounce David of his sinful act did not concern adultery, but is more on the sin that David made use of his authority to satisfy his sinful desire, and this (within the context) found loathsome to God. His act of adultery seems to be only a means to expose David's greater hidden sin (as mentioned in V1-9) rooted in his heart unconsciously perhaps. Am I understanding it correctly? Thank you and shalom Azure |

47 | 1 Kings Chapter 13 | 1 Kin 13:1 | azurelaw | 178836
1/ Verse 1 : ...a man of God..., Verse 11: ... a certain old prophet. Is this "certain old prophet" not from God? What is the difference between 'a man of God' and 'prophet' since I see the two are used interchangably in the OT? Is the term 'prophet' used generally as a spokesman of God or gods in the OT, but 'a man of God' refers specifically to the true prophet from God? 2/ Why did that old prophet lied to the man of God? 3/ What is the teaching here? Was it teaching us that God does not contradict himself? 4/ Why was the punishment so severe? Thanks for helping. Shalom Azure |

48 | 1 King 15:14 Asa had gone astray? | 1 Kin 15:14 | azurelaw | 177941
1 King 15:14 second part Asa's heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life (NIV) or all his days (both NASB and Amplified). 2 Chronicles 16, it mentioned that: Asa had done a foolish thing that he relied on the king of Aram (verse 7 to 9) Asa showed his resentment toward the seer's charge. He also relied not on God but the physicians concerning his feet illness. So, how should we interpret the description on 1 King 15:14 second part? Did Asa finally repent before his death? Thanks and in Christ. Azure |

49 | 450 or 850? | 1 Kin 18:19 | azurelaw | 241066
How many prophets (in total) of the pagan gods were at the Mount Carmel? Was it 850 or 450? From what indicated in scripture, I believe it was 850, but in verse 22, Elijah said 450 of Baal. If it was 450, does it mean that the 400 prophets of Asherah were included in the 450 Baal's prophets? Thank you. Shalom Azure |

52 | the book of Job | Job 42:7 | azurelaw | 182383
1/ Where was that spirit from? God? or Satan? I suppose it was not from God for God rebuked Eliphaz (42:7) for what he said about Him. 2/ Was it natural that people at that time regard disasters, illness, etc. as symbols of God's punishment on one's sinful acts? In that case, we could understand why Job's 3 friends had those comments against Job. 3/ Job's 3 friends were indeed very sincere (it seems to me) as we can see how they reacted when they saw Job (2:11 to 13). I hardly see people (include me) nowadays treat their friends in such manner. Strange is that Job did not get any comfort from them but more hurt instead. What lesson can I learn in the book of Job regarding friendship? Shalom Azure |

53 | Comforting verse for non-believers | Psalm | azurelaw | 189111
A dear friend (a nurse on her way to care for the patients who have no chance of recovery) died in an accident (while she was walking along the pedestrian path, a careless truck driver lost its control in a speedy turn thus caused the truck to fall onto her) few days ago leaving her husband with 2 very little sons at the age of 8 and 10. Unfortunately, the family are non-believers. I am going to attend her funeral, however I would like to write something from the bible for comforting the family. But my brain is blank at the moment and I cannot think of any suitable verse for the situation. Please help. Shalom Azure |

54 | pronoun used and its effect to readers | Ps 14:6 | azurelaw | 213889
From v1-5, David used the 3rd person pronoun for the evildoers or the wicked. Why then only in v6, a sudden change to 2nd person pronoun? Thanks for your help. Shalom Azure |

55 | Revival of Holiness | Ps 51:10 | azurelaw | 222479
Yesterday (previous Sunday) during the morning service, a song led by the worshipper titled "Revival of Holiness". (I have never heard of such concept/term) The message of the lyric is asking God to revive believers' holiness and the holiness of the heart. It seems to me the lyric is talking about believers' "backsliding". I want to ask: 1/ What is the teaching in Bible concerning "revival"? Can it be applied to Holiness? 2/ In what aspect(s) does the Bible teach about Holiness (I know one of the concepts of which is "to set apart as holy") for believers? Thank you for your help. Shalom Azure |

59 | Medes cruelty - Isaiah 13:17-18 | Is 13:17 | azurelaw | 187553
Behold, I am going to stir up the Medes against them, Who will not value silver or take pleasure in gold. And their bows will mow down the young men, They will not even have compassion on the fruit of the womb, Nor will their eye pity children. These 2 verses mentioned about the cruelty of Medes. Are there any more specific records showing the cruelty of Medes besides Isaiah 13:17-18? Thanks and Shalom Azure |

60 | Isaiah 40:1 | Is 40:1 | azurelaw | 190074
It sounds a bit odd to me when Isaiah addressed "says your God" which gives me the feeling that he is not part of the Israelite and "God" is not his God (he looks like an outsider). I have also checked the prior chapters and found this is not the usual way of speaking in Isaiah's proclamation or prophesies. 1/ Is chapter 40 written by Isaiah? 2/ Was it only an emphasis by using "your God" that Isaiah wanted the Israelite to be affirmed with their relationship with God? Thanks you. Shalom Azure |
