403 | Are faith and works an integral unit? | Romans | Val | 194474
I guess it depends on the biblical person. In looking at the good kings you will see that they made reforms that followed the Lord's commandments. In this sense you see their faith is being worked out by their actions. I believe only the Lord can see the motivations of ones heart as to why they do what they do. I believe that those who wanted to please Jehovah did view faith and action as a unit in the sense of obedience to those things commanded. This is a different way of looking at works. We certainly are saved by faith alone but as James says a genuine faith will produce good deeds.
404 | Can't we live like the early disciples? | Mark 6:8 | Val | 194161
By seeking the Lord and His righteousness through reading and studying the bible, believing and obeying what He says there. Believing in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ and living in the power of His Holy Spirit.
405 | putting forth their hand? | 1 Sam 24:12 | Val | 194029
1 Sam 24:12 "May the LORD judge between you and me, and may the LORD avenge me on you; but my hand shall not be against you. The short answer is that David sought to please the Lord. Saul was unreasonable and suspicious of David and tormented him to the point of trying to kill him. David on many occasions had been spared from Saul's men by the Lord. I am sure he was frustrated with Saul and on more than one occasion could have ended Saul's life. He chose rather to leave it to the Lord. As an application to our lives today, if we continually seek to please the Lord He will vindicate us of lies and slander against us if we like David leave it to the Lord. We must always be in constant prayer and walk in faith through the power of the Holy Spirit. Staying close to our Lord in daily bible reading and prayer is the best defense. |

406 | what to say to someone who doesnt believ | Bible general Archive 3 | Val | 194003
Lynda, if your friend is being affected by the negative and painful, it may be time for her to change occupations. Her mental health may be affected. Few people could work in a job like that. It takes a special type of person. Also if she has been in it too long, it may be time for a change of job. You can show her God's love and assure her that God loved her so much He gave His only Son to die in her place that she might have eternal life. Perhaps you might lift her up in prayer on a regular basis. Hope this helps.

409 | Explain Heb. 10:26 | NT general Archive 1 | Val | 193793
Mark 4:3 "Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow; Mark 4:4 as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up. Mark 4:5 "Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil. Mark 4:6 "And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. Mark 4:7 "Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. Mark 4:8 "Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold." Mark 4:13 And He *said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How will you understand all the parables? Mark 4:14 "The sower sows the word. Mark 4:15 "These are the ones who are beside the road where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them. Mark 4:16 "In a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; Mark 4:17 and they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away. Mark 4:18 "And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word, Mark 4:19 but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. Mark 4:20 "And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold." As our Lord taught above we are to sow the seed and leave the results to Him. I hope this helps. Respectfully submitted, |

410 | studying the book of isaiah | Isaiah | Val | 193741
Precept Ministeries has written a bible study on Isaiah that will be available this December. I have found their studies have been quite helpful to me in studying God's word for myself. Their studies do not tell you what to believe but show you how to study to discover God's truths for yourself before going to commentaries. I highly recommend them. Respectfully submitted,

In the International Inductive Study Bible, NASB published by Harvest House there is a Section on Figures of Speech which explains their use. It says and I quote "In personification an object is given characteristics or attributes that belong to people - for example, when the trees clap their hands and the mountains sing for joy (Isaiah 55:12) For further explanation of your question on the features of the Quest study bible you might submit your question to the Editorial vice-president found on the Acknowledgements page. |

414 | witness to neighbors about Jesus Christ? | NT general Archive 1 | Val | 193664
I would first write out a three minute testimony of how I came to know the Lord and believed and was saved. Practice speaking your testimony to a close prayer buddy. As has been stated show love in tangible ways and develop a relationship with your neighbors. Pray that the Lord would open up an opportunity for you to be used by Him in witnessing to your neighbors. Be in constant prayer for them specifically and when that opportunity arrives you will be ready to share. You might also get your bible out and mark some verses that you plan to use so you can show them if given the opportunity. You might even buy them a bible, mark it and give it to them at the appropriate time. It is vital that you be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading and that your life be free of sin as the walk is more important than the talk. Daily prayer and bible study will keep you equipped to share the gospel as you will drawn strength and guidance from the Lord each day.
415 | Is demonic possession relevant today? | Acts 19:13 | Val | 193661
It is more common in places where there are few christians and the people worship satan. I have heard missionaries talk about this who grew up in places such as these. We should however keep our focus on the Lord Jesus Christ and rely upon Him and stay close to Him through prayer and bible study.
416 | who do I give money to? | 1 Cor 16:2 | Val | 193601
Reading on in this Chapter we see that the purpose of the collection was for the church at Jerusalem not Corinth. 1 Cor 16:3 "When I arrive, whomever you may approve, I will send them with letters to carry your gift to Jerusalem;" The church at Jerusalem was persecuted and the saints there needed help in surviving - there was true need. There was a time when the church I grew up in needed funds to pay the utility bills. I felt that need was greater than my current church at that time because they had an abundance. I don't know if this helps - its really something you will have to search out and seek God on yourself. |

417 | IS BAPTISM IS REQUIRED | Rom 6:3 | Val | 193597
You might look in the gospels and see where the Lord Jesus was baptized. We are to follow Him. If there is some medical or other reason that prevents you that would be different. As an act of obedience we are baptized after salvation not before as a picture and testiment of our life In Him.

420 | Where does the bible condemn witchcraft? | Deut 18:10 | Val | 193517
One reason that the Lord does not allow witchcraft is because it amounts to idolatry in the sense that one is relying on something else rather than the Lord Jesus Christ.
