246 | Church and addiction | NT general | azurelaw | 230840
Dear Jlalli, You ask: So are u saying not to go to church until one is perfect ? I was worrying that my post could be mis-interpreted as an advice to the original quesioner. That's why I said : "My post is not intended to answer the original question of lovingmother's but to address my concern on your statement which could mislead readers that they may still be saved if they stay in the habitual sinful life without any regret or repantence." In fact, I completely agree with your advice and encouragement to her for going to church. Whether she has completely overcome her addiction or not, by all means, she should go to a donctrinally sound, loving and caring church. (1 Peter 5:8, Heb 10:25) Shalom Azure |

247 | Church and addiction | NT general | azurelaw | 230837
Dear Jlalli, You say : "My thought is God accepts us all as we are and you can go to church as an addict or saint." I am sure you said so with good intention and yet I am afraid it is very misleading. If God accepts us all as we are, He would not have sent His only beloved Son to LIVE A PERFECT LIFE FOR US and DIE FOR OUR SIN. Don't just read V16 of the Gospel according to John, read through to V21 at least. Meanwhile, according to the context of chapter 3, in the beginning section, notice what Jesus said in V3 "born anew". A truly born again Christian will have a change in his/her life, though most of the time the change is little by little, and failures are enountered as well. Yet, he/she will not love the old life anymore. His/her hatre of sin will grow together with his/her love for the Lord. My post is not intended to answer the original question of lovingmother's but to address my concern on your statement which could mislead readers that they may still be saved if they stay in the habitual sinful life without any regret or repantence. God is love, for sure; but He also is justice. Sin has no place before His eyes. I've learn from an elder brother who once shared with me something like this: A believer must have a right relationship with God before he/she could have a right relationship with others (include oneself). So, to expand that thought, we may only properly love ourselves or others when we have a right relationship with God. To quote (from my memory, wordings could vary a bit) from what Paul Washer said: Don't tell me that you have a good relationship with God unless you can tell me what is your relationship with sin. Dear smyrdell, In addition to my previous post, please also read Genesis 48:7 where Jacob told Joseph about the death of his mother. So, it is pretty certain that Rachel was still alive before he was sold. Shalom Azure |

253 | is 70 years what is promise man | Ps 90:10 | azurelaw | 230711
Dear Bertall, I think you might be looking for Psalm 90:10. However, read the whole chapter that Moses was not affirming the life expectancy is 70 years, but... "...sings of the frailty of man, and the shortness of life, contrasting therewith the eternity of God, and founding thereon earnest appeals for compassion....... Moses himself lived longer than this, but his was the exception not the rule: in his day life had come to be very much the same in duration as it is with us. This is brevity itself compared with the men of the elder time; it is nothing when contrasted with eternity. Yet is life long enough for virtue and piety, and all too long for vice and blasphemy." -- Charles Spurgeon Shalom Azure |

254 | right type of bible to use | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 230688
Dear Glenn, I would have to agree with Bill's advice. By the way, in addition to that, I've heard someone say: The best bible to use is the one you use most. So, when you are zealous about God's word, you will diligently study His Word for the real message. Thus you will not satsify on using a single version of translation. I am a Chinese and of course for easier understanding,I use a Chinese Bible. The one I am using is a Chinese Bible translated base on KJV mostly. However, I also use NIV (English), KJV (English) some other versions on the internet as a study tool for my bible study. May you be fruitful in your study and teaching. Shalom Azure |
