161 | Tell me about the seven deadly sins | Prov 6:16 | azurelaw | 233972
Dear saintnic70, The Seven Deadly Sins, also known as the Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins. You may google search on the internet or wikipedia for detail explanation. However, in the Bible, there is no such thing as seven deadly sins. The most minor sin has wages. "For the wages of sin is death,..."(Rom 6:23a) However, the Bible has mentioned some sins are an abomination to God:- Proverbs 6:16-19 There are six things which the LORD hates, seven which are an abomination to him:haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil,a false witness who breathes out lies, and a man who sows discord among brothers. Dear heman, As it is clearly named "StudyBibleForum", the main design of the forum is for bible study/asking question about the Bible. It seems that this post of yours is a kind of devotional sharing. So, in order to keep the "question page" serving properly for Bible question, you may mark this kind of "sharing post" as "note" so that it will not occupy much of the space in the question page and yet, people can still read your post at the lower part of the screen. Thank you. Azure |

Dear heman, Since you are new here, I hope the following tips helpful for you when posting and for better follow up discussion for other users. 1/ When you post a follow-up note or question in the existing thread, please mark it "note" unless you want to start a new question outside of the original thread. 2/ When you register, I believe (to my memory) there is a requirement that you need to fill in your valid email address. So, when a post/question is in respond to yours, the system will automatically notify you by email. In case you are sure that you are missing any email notification from Lockman, you can always write to them for help. 3/ As a long-time participant on the forum, the style of Searcher that I understand is that he always provide short and biblical answer, but might not be direct answer. He also likes to answer with a question to trigger the poster's thought to dig into the scripture. I think this is a good way to foster thinking. We have been experiencing many demanding straight forward direct from the forum as if the forum is a "fast food restaurant". I believe most of the regulars here on the forum do not think it a good idea for training serious bible study. Concerning your question, I see that brother Doc has provided you an answer already --- God created all things for His glory (my paraphrase of his actual wordings). Let me provide the below scriptures to consider:- Psalm 19 Roman 3:23 Roman 8:28 Remember, when you study the scriptures, you may encounter with difficulties on a certain/particular word or phrase. Don't just get stuck there and make haste to file your questions, try reread again and again the whole chapter or even those chapters before and after in order to get a better idea of the context that construct the idea of the writer of the book. God's holy Word is so deep and rich like a buried treasure. It requires our hardwork to dig, dig, dig... Shalom Azure |

THIS POST IS INTENDED FOR OTHER FORUM READERS. As a long-time forum user, I regret to read of your (user: Infinity700) unfair accusation against the forum and your accusation is not factual as well. I really don't understand how you would come to such an unkind conclusion on our gracious host - Lockman Foundation, who freely provides us the platform for our Bible study. I have read your past posts and others that have responded to you and found nothing that you have been treated unkindly. As a responsible poster, your accusation made publicly should be solid grounded with evidence. The host of the forum, since they own it, has the right to construct the Terms of Use for users to comply. If you do not agree to any of it, you should not register your account. I really doubt your sincerity and integrity since you have signed and accepted the forum terms upon your registration and now you accuse the forum of its long exist TOU being too restrictive. Shalom Azure |

Dear EdB, First let me explain that I do not endorse drunkenness nor nakedness. They are, as Bible says, foolish and wrong indeed. But here, in this narrative of the Noah's time - ancient history where there was no 10 commandments or the Torah, was drunkenness and nakedness regarded wrong AT THAT TIME? Or are we using our standard to access what actually not there? Note that God has explicitly given certain commands (Gen 9:6), but nothing about drunkenness or nakedness. I always find this narrative interesting. As modern people, we do know drunkenness is foolish and nakedness is wrong. But when I put myself in the time of Noah and considering the Bible is silent on this by then, I believe the focus is more on Ham's wicked behaviour toward his father's nakedness. Shalom Azure |

173 | Did God return? | Gen 18:10 | azurelaw | 233142
In chapter 21, the narrative of the birth of Isaac has not mentioned the return of God. So should we understand the word "return" here for it also bears quite a number of meaning in its Hebrew root? Thank you for your help. Shalom Azure |

Dear deprince, This has been discussed a lot on the forum. You may do a quick search by typing the below verses on the search box "book chapter/verse" on the right and it will show the text of the scripture. At the beginning of each verse, you will see "I" "N", click on the "N" and the screen will show you all the past posts under the thread at the bottom of the page. Relevant verses: 1 Cor 11:5 1 Cor 11:6 Shalom Azure |

175 | 1. Is God sovereign? 2.) Free Will? | Job 1:8 | azurelaw | 233114
Dear Preston, May I offer my input here for your thought. Sometimes it would not be appropriate to simply provide a "yes or no" or "agree or disagree" answer as it is in the case of your question. Because sometimes, people's answer might not be COMPLETELY wrong, yet not answer to the point. If we only seek agreement from others on the forum, it could end up with emotional attitude or "hot" debate (I am glad to see a friendly and willing to discuss attitude in your posts, and I hope we won't head the wrong way despite we are being challenged or disagreed with). That is why the host provides us a guideline of posting that - Postings must be Biblically based. - Postings must not oppose the Bible's sole authority (sola Scriptura). While reading your communication with Doc, I find that your assertion contains no scriptural support. Thus it is hard for us to agree on that. But can I say yours completely wrong, no. However, I believe your assertion "G-d created Satan to give you and I a choice between.... good and evil...simple as that." is only part of those countless means/situations that God decrees for His Glory. So, therefore, as Doc has rightly put and it is in accord with the Orthodox doctrines, God creates everything for His Glory. Sorry that I don't cite scripture in this post because I am in echo with Doc's scriptural citation. Shalom Azure P.S. While responding to your post, I can't help to recall the scenario of working on multiple choices question in examination. There are tricky questions demanding for the "most suitable" answer from those options that seemingly correct :-) |

177 | A contrite heart in salvation | Ps 51:17 | azurelaw | 233058
"Conversion is not the smooth, easy-going process some men seem to think....It is wounding work,of course, this breaking of the hearts, but without wounding there is no saving.... Where there is grafting there is a cutting, the scion must be let in with a wound; to stick it on to the outside or to tie it on with a string would be of no use. Heart must be set to heart and back to back, or there will be no sap from root to branch, and this I say, must be done by a wound." - John Bunyan (The Excellency of a Broken Heart)

Dear EdB, I see that you have long been a forum participant since 2001 and my experience in reading some of your past posts no doubt have been pleasant and a blessing. Yet, I feel sad to see your below statement unfair and lacking brotherly love. "As I said I think this discussion is ended unless you want to make another charge against me." I really cannot understand how could you presume Beja's motive if he would continue the discussion. From your such statement, are you saying if he continues to respond, he will be liable to setting any charges against you (be it legitimate or not)? Shalom Azure |
