241 | What does this dream mean? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 219099
Dear humbleheart, Please do calm down, sir. I can understand that when our experience (which seems so real to us) is being challenged, it would be very annoying. However, please bear in mind that no matter how real our experiences are, it does not necessarily mean that they are "truth". Do you remember how Eve was deceived? In her experience, everything seemed so real - the fruit so delightful and good for food, God is so wise who knows good and evil (Gen 3) - thus, His Word was ignored. If you think / "feel" others judged you wrongly, show sarcasm or belittle you, why do you do the same to Doc (who only made one answer to justme not you). By the way, I believe it would be much wiser and noble to stand up for anyone who "need" help instead of "wanting" help. (Exodus 23:3, 6) What's wrong with "properly and correctly" using scripture to teach, reproof and correct (2 Tim 3:16) when there appear something in doubt or problematic on a public Bible study forum? Peace be with you. Azure |

243 | What should I read first? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 220907
Dear Mary, Welcome to the forum. I am glad for your desire to study the Bible deligently. We have to labour and dig for this precious treasure - God's Word. From what I have read of your post, I would offer you a golden rule : never read a bible verse. We have to get the proper and correct meaning of the scripture based on the context. It is dangerous to just read a verse or two, draw our own conclusion and apply it to our circumstances. I strongly recommend you the book "How to read the Bible for all its worth" - by Fee N Stuart. Another book commendable is: How to study your Bible - by Kay Arthur. She has a website : Precept.org offering programmes for inductive Bible study. See posts (by our brother Doc) : 156695, 156918, 156920, 156917, 157835, 158836, 202827, 171562 It seems that you have not allied yourself with any local church. I hope you will find a Bible teaching church that holds to sola scriptura (i.e. scripture alone) stand that you may be edified. If possible, you may provide the location where you are (don't give full address for security sake) so that members of the forum might help you to get one from your area of proximity. May you be blessed. Shalom Azure |

250 | Is New Testament Inspired by God | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 221787
Dear confused, 1/ The subject should have been discussed a lot on the forum in the past. You may try doing a word search "canon" via the "Advanced Search" function for further study. 2/ I would also recommend you 2 articles which I think helpful for your reference: (a) Formation of the New Testament Canon (link: http://www.bible-researcher.com/canon1.html) (b) Is the New Testament Text Reliable? - by Greg Koukl (link: str.org) 3/ You say "love to hear how you guys have settled this for yourselves." We do not settle it for ourselves. God settles it for us by His sovereign will. Shalom Azure |

258 | questions and answers about jonhan | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 222587
Dear sajackson, First, the Bible does not say it was a whale that swallowed Jonah. It was a BIG FISH. One important thing we need to set a good example for children is that we should not speculate or imagine too much on the scripture outside of its context. The main theme of the book of Jonah is not about Jonah and the big fish as most bible story books for children portray it like a fairy tale. It is about God's mercy and His saving grace in contrast to human's self-righteousness or unloving human heart (i.e. Jonah). See how the book ends with God's words in the last chapter. You first have to understand what is the message in the book of Jonah before you can rightly develop questions for kids biblically. Study the book for yourself first. I believe the below link could be helpful:- http://www.biblestudyguide.org/comment/calvin/comm_vol28/htm/iii.htm Shalom Azure |

259 | can you get a divorce for emotional and | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 222970
Dear bless01, I am terribly sorry for your situation. However, I agree with Brother Doc that you go to seek counsel from your pastor and mature Christian women. You don't have to face the problem alone. Remember also to bring everything to Christ in prayer. You need to pray for yourself and your husband as well. I will be praying for you. Shalom Azure |
