241 | question about the comma johannim | 1 John 5:7 | mark d seyler | 175099
Hi abearmenta, The LBLA was translated by a different group of translators than was the NASB. Both used the NU-26 as their primary Greek manuscript, but they also referrenced other manuscripts as well, and the two groups apparently made different textual decisions on this passage. There are strong arguments both for and against this passage, with learned and competent scholars on both sides of the debate. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

242 | HELP me! dear JESUS! | Ps 46:1 | mark d seyler | 175064
This is exactly what God promises you: Hebrews 4:14-16 (14) Then having a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the confession. (15) For we do not have a high priest not being able to sympathize with our weaknesses but One having been tried in all respects according to our likeness, apart from sin. (16) Therefore, let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and we may find grace for timely help. Not knowing more specifically what you are going through, I can only give general suggestions, but I suggest you read Romans chapter 8, read it several times through, slowly, meditating on each thought for several minutes, to absorb the meaning. 244 | relatives in Heaven | 1 Cor 13:12 | mark d seyler | 175053
Hi Carol, 1Co 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. Paul teaches us that we will increase in knowledge, not decrease, so I expect that we will recognize our relatives in heaven. Peter and John recognized Moses and Elijah: Mat 17:4 And answering, Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You desire, let us make three tents here, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. Love in Christ, Mark |

246 | Women vs wearing pants /trousers | Bible general Archive 3 | mark d seyler | 175047
Hi Nomthandazo, There is no specific statement made in the Bible about women wearing pants. 1 Timothy 2:9 "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;" Women are to dress modestly. This tends to vary by culture. But there is neither a Biblical prohibition or exortation for women wearing pants. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

247 | Where in bible does it say mourn birth? | Eccl 7:1 | mark d seyler | 175043
Ecclesiastes 7:1-2 (1) A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth. (2) It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. This was Soloman's summation of a life spent pursuing everything else but God. If you choose to devote your life to anything but God, you might as well be dead. A sad state of affairs for the wisest, richest, arguably most powerful and respected man who ever lived. But it's even worse for us when we have his example and don't take it to heart. The only life worth living is the life of Christ lived through us (Gal. 2:20). Love in Christ, Mark |

248 | Why knock something if it works? | Prov 9:8 | mark d seyler | 174982
Because it's completely unBiblical and places man as the authority over God. These false teachers claim that God's will is that all people be materially prosperous. But that is clearly not true according to the Scriptures. Ask the disciples of Jesus as they went through the fields plucking grain to eat. That was only for the poor to do. (Matt. 12) Was Jesus, whom they were with, unable to provide the vast material blessing they were "supposed to have"? Jesus defended them in eating the grain. He did not say "Well, since they don't have enough faith, this is the best they can do." No, He declared them "guiltless". They were right where God wanted them. Poor and dependant. Ask Paul as he spent days and nights without food, shelter, and adequate clothing. (2 Cor 11) Would you claim that the apostle Paul "lacked faith"? Or is it that he didn't give enough? I would not dare assert either claim. Murdock and his kind teach a god who is little more than Santa Claus. The Bible teaches a God Who tests us and tries us, sometimes not giving us much, sometimes not giving us what we think we need, sometimes only supplying the barest minimum. Sometimes blessing us, and when He does give us excess, its not for the purpose of our soaking it up, spending it on our pleasures and lusts, but so that we can give to others. There are many decievers and false teachers, so ask yourself, do their lives look like Jesus' did? Are they teaching us to "deny ourselves, and daily take up our cross"? Or our they teaching us to want and take and consume this world's good upon our pleasures? Would you trade the eternal glory of a sacrificial life for a few extra trinkets here? Mike Murdock would say go for it! Just send your money to him. But the Bible says its our affliction that produces eternal glory (2 Cor 4). Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi kosmos, There are several verses that reiterate this, but the first is in Genrsis 12:3 "And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed." Love in Christ, Mark |

250 | how #7 relates to our body | Eccl 1:9 | mark d seyler | 174910
Hi rstyson, There is nothing in the Bible relating the number 7 to the body or health. Now, were you interested in learning what the Bible says about health and the body, that would be a different matter, and we may be able to help you with that pursuit. But God gave the Bible to help you to know Him, not to sell your health program CD. The most important thing to understand about the Bible is that it shows how God reaches out to man, for the health of man's soul. Do you know what God did so that we could have life? 253 | Four False Prophesies of Jesus | NT general Archive 1 | mark d seyler | 174777
Pukalanian, You would do well to review the Forum Guidelines. This forum is for those who do not question the authority of the Bible. Obviously, you do. But I believe that the Bible gives no false prophecy. #1 - If you follow the popular teaching that Jesus was crucified on Friday, then this is certainly a problem. But if you follow the actual Passover Schedule, He was crucified on Thursday, and died Thursday about 3 pm. In Jewish chronology, a part of a day is counted towards that day. He died before sunset on Thursday. Thurs Day and Night - Day 1. Fri Day and Night - Day 2. Sat Day and Night - Day 3. No problem. People think He died on Friday because the next day was a Sabbath, but what they forget is that the Passover is also a Sabbath, which was on Friday. Jesus was killed as they sacrificed the sheep for Passover, on Thursday. According to Moses, the Passover Lamb was to be chosen on the 10th of Nisan, inspected for 4 days, and killed on the 14th. Jesus entered Jerusalem on Sunday the 10, was in the temple daily Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and was killed on Thursday the 14th. #2 Peter and John were given a foretaste of Jesus in glory as Jesus met with Moses and Elijah, and they saw Jesus is His glory. #3 The works that Jesus did towards healing and raising from the dead, or turning water into wine, were of temporal value. Healing someone is good, but they still later will die, and the benefit of that work is lost. But when a man preaches Jesus, and another man believes, and is saved, that is a work that has eternal value - the benefit never ends, and that, in my book, is a greater work. #4 Not only does the Book of Acts show the fulfillment of those things, but hey, we don't know the full and entire history of all the nations, so I have no idea what is happening in other places, but let me also share with you this - A long time ago, in a very dark time in my life, I thought to end my life, and, among other things I did, I swallowed a full bottle of 75 pills - I'll not name them for safety's sake - being well over a fatal dose. They did not hurt me. Praise the Lord for bringing me through those days, and praise the Lord for protecting me from my stupidity, and from that poison. I hope I have not been confusing, and I hope you will not be so brash as to post on this forum that the Bible is false. It won't long be tolerated, I assure you. Love in Christ, Mark |

254 | need verses about woman teaching women | Titus 2:4 | mark d seyler | 174722
Hi jlschock, Its in Titus chapter 2: Titus 2:3-5 (3) Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, (4) and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, (5) to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. 255 | Custom home developer | Rom 10:9 | mark d seyler | 174704
Hi pukalanian, Your question presumes a reason of why some are saved and some not that is not Scriptural, and therefore, your question cannot be answered. You have asserted that strength and weakness are the foundations for one choosing to repent and one not. The Bible does not say that. The Bible tells us to believe in Jesus. That is what you are responsible to do. And if fact, the Bible teaches that the weak generally find it easier to yield to Jesus. My friend, I find the tone of your posts rather troubling. The implication of your words is that if one does not agree with your view, they are unthinking, illogical, and unrational. You strike me as an intelligent person, and I am certain that you will be able to express yourself in a more civil and friendly manner in the future. We are here to discuss the Bible. Is there a Bible passage you wish to consider with us? Love in Christ, Mark |

256 | how am i considered to b married to God? | Gen 2:24 | mark d seyler | 174700
Hi Inspirational, You speak of being "legally married by the church", and I think that is a good description of "married in the eyes of God". God does not consider you married until you are "legally married", because He requires us to follow the laws of the land that do not conflict with His, and that's the law of the land. Physical relations that happen before that time comes are strictly prohibited. "Unchaste" would be an accurate word to describe someone who is in a sexual relationship outside of marraige. 258 | "Difference" btw Old and new Testament | Matt 5:17 | mark d seyler | 174697
Hi Teemc, It would perhaps be better if you could give examples of the particular Scriptures you are having difficulty with, but notwithstanding, I will try to answer your question. The Jehovah of the Old Testament is the Jesus of the New Testament. The Old Testament, the Old Covenant, was a covenant of works, and Law, and that (Rom 10:5) "Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which does those things shall live by them." Of course, no one could live by them. The only salvation that came from the Old Covenant was when a person recognized that they needed grace, and would come and offer the sacrifice for sin. And as they did this, they entered into the the arms of the New Covenant, which is of grace and faith. Galatians 3:23-25 (23) But before the coming of faith, we were guarded under Law, having been locked up to the faith being about to be revealed. (24) So that the Law has become a trainer of us until Christ, that we might be justified by faith. (25) But faith coming, we are no longer under a trainer; The Law is strict, and seems harsh. But the Law is meant to drive us to Christ, to grace, to an easy yoke and a light burden. So when we come to the New Covenant, it seems softer, gentler, but what we actually discover is that while the Old Covenant seemed to only ask for morally perfect behaviour, the New Covenant requires us to be morally perfect through and through, and so still we must fall into the arms of Christ, to receive His righteousness. I hope somewhere in this rambling there is something of use to you. If you have a more questions, I will be happy to help you to the best of my ability. I would recommend to you that you study Galations for a greater understanding between the Old and New Testaments. Love in Christ, Mark |

259 | ... | Is 55:11 | mark d seyler | 174693
Hi Vince, I believe the Bible because it is the Word of God. It is a book that simply cannot have been written by man. It proves itself on so many levels that it is ridiculous to deny it. But of all the ways it proves itself, the most dramatic way is how it ushers in to each who believe a personal relationship with the Living God. Do you believe? Love in Christ, Mark |

260 | If we defend ourselves, God WON'T?? | Acts 26:2 | mark d seyler | 174685
Hi Starfire, Act 26:2 "I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:" Paul cherished that he was able to answer against the false accusations made against him. Matt 10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. God promises in some situations to give us the very words to say. The Lord has also promise that He will never forsake us. Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. I think some TV ministries might not be giving either a full or correct view. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
