222 | what does begotten mean | John 3:16 | azurelaw | 225613
Dear legsrandall, Amplified version reads: John 3:16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. Word study: 3439 monogenês; from 3441 and 1085; only begotten:--only(3), only begotten(6). You may easily get the above information from the "Bible Text" search box on the right hand side. Type the verse in the "translation" box (in this case John 3:16) and then hit the "go" button. It will show you all the verses in John 3 with verse 16 in bold face. At the beginning of each verse, you will see "I", "N", etc. Click on them and see what you will find:-) Hope you enjoy your study and thanks be to God for the gracious host "Lockman". Shalom Azure |

223 | I will work on the advice you gave me | John 14:6 | azurelaw | 225611
Dear legsrandall, For your information on how to get familiar with the forum feature, I would like to borrow a note from our old-timer user (Doc) as below: ****** There is an unwritten convention on the forum to use the "Question" button only when addressing the forum as a whole. Follow-up questions and comments addressed to individuals should use the "Note" button. The individual being addressing will receive automatic notification. This practice keeps the home page clear. ***** Shalom Azure |

224 | What is prayer, Where does it come from? | Matthew | azurelaw | 225538
Dear legsrandall, From what you have written, I can see your anxiety about your sister and your love towards her. As you have mentioned, she has a lot of question and view points on prayer which I think you do as well, I am afraid your questions cannot be satisfactorily dealt with in a post or two. I agree that we should not treat prayer lightly as this is a privilege and grace given to believers from God to commune with Him. Jesus has some teachings about prayer in Matthew 6. Please read through the chapter in context. Furthermore, I would also like to recommend a book to you which I think properly dealt with those common mistaken views on prayers held by nowaday's believers. The book is also very biblical, too. I strongly recommend you to get a copy to read it or get one for your sister. "The God who hears" - by W. Bingham Hunter. Below are a few citations from the book for your quick reference:- "Prayer really makes sense only against the background of God's nature and attributes. First, we must know whom we are talking to. Second, we have got to know ourselves. Third we need someone who understands both God and ourselves to show us how to do it." "It is because God is holy, that we are asked to confess; it is because He knows everything, that we must be honest. Because He is sovereign, we must ask according to his will..." "From a biblical point of view, prayer is related to everything that we are and everything that God is. God does not respond to our prayers. God responds to us: to our whole life." Shalom Azure |

225 | God responsible of earthquue´s deaths | 2 Tim 2:15 | azurelaw | 225488
Dear Pilar, In responding to your "So What?" statement, may I implore you not to act as an outsider and judge against God. So...what......?: Repent and believe! Luke 13:1 Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. Luke 13:2 And Jesus said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate? Luke 13:3 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:4 "Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem? Luke 13:5 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish." Shalom Azure |

226 | Explain Lamentations 4:10-11 | Lam 1:8 | azurelaw | 225401
Dear infin, Jerusalem was laid seige and destroyed by the army of Babylon. The city was experiencing great famine. This chapter of Lamentations portrayed about the tribulation Israelites experiencing at that time. Why did they suffer so greatly? See chapter 1:8 (Jerusalem sinned greatly). You also need to read the book of Jeremiah. It would be good and helpful to study the history of the Israelites in the OT (starting from Abraham when God called him out and blessed him to become a great nation). You will see how rebellious (continuously rebelled against God) they were despite God's everlasting kindness, love and care on them. You ask: "Is this the God Jesus worshipped?" Can you elaborate? What do you believe Jesus to be? May I also ask you: What are the attributes of God that you know of when you read the Bible? May the Holy Spirit shed light on you and guide you in your study. Shalom Azure |

232 | How do I keep a meak and humble heart? | NT general | azurelaw | 224902
Dear Patricia, I think the forum is not a suitable place to give you advice or counseling per your situation for the purpose of the Host is to provide a platform for Bible study. However, in concern with your attitude toward scriptures, you should always check what people said if they are align with scriptures - as it is in your case of getting a bible verse (?) on facebook which I don't seem to remember such verse exist. It would be better to ask for citation of book, chapter and verse. Now, back to your case, since you are only telling one side of the story, there is no way that we can make any comments. I think there should be a reason that causes your boss scream at you, anyhow, no one on the forum can be your judge. May I offer the below scripture for your reference and encouragement. I think this should answer your question about being meek and humble. 1 Peter 2:20 Please remember to read the whole chapter 2. Shalom Azure |

Dear marigold, Others may have a more comprehensive answer. Here is what I have come up with:- 1/ Canaanites are a cursed people (Gen 9:18-19) 2/ They are immoral and wicked (Gen 10:19, Gen 13:13, Exo 23:23-24, Lev 18:3) Shalom Azure |

236 | The error addressed in 2 Peter | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 224776
Dear Beja, I would say "yes" that the error addressed is about antinomianism. I remember someone (I forgot about the source) said that 2 Peter 3:14-17 is refuting those who wrongly considered Paul's teaching on saved through faith alone so that they might still live an immoral life. The examples (Noah and Lot) in the ancient time cited by Peter were used to address the moral issue clearly in harmony with his concern on the antinomianism. Just my bit of 2 cents:-) Shalom Azure |

237 | Text Clarification | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 224753
Dear Rob, I am not a member of the Lockman Foundation, but a user of the forum for Bible study. 1st, as far as I know, I am not aware of such verse in the NASB or AMP version of the site provided. 2nd, I think it is the member at your church who should submit evidence of prove for such notion or verse because he (or she) is the person claiming such verse exists. Shalom Azure |

239 | 6 reasons the Lord abandon Judah | Isaiah | azurelaw | 224661
Dear mommyof2, I suppose you are referring to Isaiah 2:6-22. Please see the below reply I made earlier today to another 2 users asking the same question. Shalom Azure ***** Have you read the passage? The reasons are mentioned clearly in the verses. It would not be difficult to spot them out. This is my advice to you and Linda28:- 2 Tim 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. I always think that whoever joins a bible study class, he or she must be thirsty for God's word and eager to study and to know Him, thus will work hard by themselves in seeking the answer, reading the scriptures. I don't know what is the zeal in believers who rely on others to find the answer for them in their bible study wihout putting in their own effort. May God grant you the zeal in digging His treasure of His precious Words. |
