223 | taking the name of the Lord in vain | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 200418
Pray for your co-worker and do acts of kindness for him. Some time after you feel you have established a rapore (?) with him - tell him in a kind way how much you love Christ and how it hurts you when you hear his name used that way and you wish he wouldn't do it in front of you. If he doesn't stop at least you know you took a stand for your Lord. Commit him into the Lord's hand and He will take care of it for you. Blessings, Val Oh and be sure and do it privately - not to embarrass him in front of other people. Ps 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. |

224 | modes in aiding meditation | Gen 1:26 | Val | 200417
It sounds like new age Azure. I would urge her to stick to memorization of scripture and journaling. Painting and drawing sounds ok. I don't know about talking to trees and nature. Sounds like pantheism to me. We certainly can pray and thank God for the trees and nature but talk to him not the creature. Hope this helps. Blessings Val

227 | Ruth2 y did Boaz redeem Ruth not Naomi? | Ruth 3:9 | Val | 200161
Also Naomi was too old to have any more children and she was depressed because of the loss of the men - her husband and sons. So Ruth took care of her and would not leave her. She went out and brought food back. This is how she met Boaz. So when she told Naomi about Boaz's kindness, Naomi instructed her what to do. Boaz and Ruth were the parents of Obed, Obed was the father of Jesse, Jesse was the father of David, David's line led down to the virgin Mary who was the mother of our Lord Jesus. One of the interesting things I learned when I studied Ruth is that the Lord is our Kinsman Redeemer. Not only was He the Kinsman Redeemer for the Jews but also for the gentiles as well as Ruth was a gentile. Interesting isn't it? Blessings -Val
228 | Okay to question faith and the Bible? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Val | 200120
As Azure has alluded to it depends on your friend's friend's motive. Perhaps the person asked a question he couldn't answer. That is an easy way for one to get out of serious bible study. I have heard other people say the same thing but I believe questions are healthy and a way for belivers to share their faith. Tell him to ask away but he will have to find someone willing to answer him. An example might be the story of the Ethiopian Eunuch. Blessings, Val

230 | take up "his" cross | Luke 9:23 | Val | 200118
Dear Budderfligh, I agree with Doc's answer and would like to add for me personally I have come to consider that it may mean that since Christ suffered His followers will suffer; that we will share in His sufferings. There is a verse that the servant is not greater than His master; so in suffering it is used to grow us in our sanctification, I believe that is the right term. Blessings, Val
231 | is "earth " symbol for Israel ? | Rev 13:11 | Val | 200073

The answer given was appropriate and I might add sometimes there may be an underlying medical issue that needs to be addressed. An annual physical helps to see if there are any health concerns. Blessings
233 | Is God refering to eternal things? | Jer 12:5 | Val | 199982
In context which means look at the events happening around the verse, such as chapter 11 and chapter 13 along with the complete chapter 12 and ideally read the entire book; you will see that Jeremiah is called the weeping prophet. Pick up a book on a survey of the Old Testament and you will see what the book is about. Jeremiah is sad because his people are disobedient to the Lord. He is God's mouthpiece to them and they will not listen and are mean to him. Things are going to get worse before they get better. Go to a local christian bookstore and in the reference section you will find many helps to show you what this time in history looked like. Look for reference books on Jeremiah. It is always about eternity. Obedience and Disobedience is something the Lord takes very seriously. Blessings Val
234 | Hebrews 6:4-6 | John 6:1 | Val | 199951
Have you heard about Christ Jesus? Have you enjoyed fellowship with the saints? If you have, then you have heard the good news? The choice now is what are you going to do. Read the gospel of John. Also in this chapter some disciples walked away. Will you? John 6:66 As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. John 6:67 So Jesus said to the twelve, "You do not want to go away also, do you?" John 6:68 Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. John 6:69 "We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God." |

235 | Jesus was a very good man | John 3:16 | Val | 199948
First, I would establish a relationship with that person if I see them everyday, or week and find out their particular background such as did they go to church growing up, were their parents christians, did they have a bad church experience. Have they ever read the bible. Do they know any people who are christians. When you know their background pray for them fervently for a period of time to know the words to say to them. The Lord will give you wisdom if you ask in faith, (read the book of James). Ask Him to open up an opportunity for you to share Christ with them. It is vital that you are sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading. You may be the one or you may not be the one who He wants to speak to this person. Ask Him to prepare that person's heart to receive the gospel. You can always plant a seed by sharing your testimony with them. We called to share the gospel and leave the results to God. Do not be discouraged if they do not receive your words. Most don't but every once in a while some do and it is a wonderful experience to know that you had a part in that. Blessings, Val
236 | Does Jesus say he is God Almighty here.. | Rev 1:8 | Val | 199924
The Lord Jesus called himself I AM. Going back to Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, “I AM has sent me to you.” John 8:58 Jesus replied, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, before Abraham was born, I AM. [Exod. 3:14.] John 13:19 “From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He (I AM) Luke 22:70 And they all said, You are the Son of God, then? And He said to them, It is just as you say; I AM. John 12:45 “He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. John 14:9 Jesus replied, Have I been with all of you for so long a time, and do you not recognize and know Me yet, Philip? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say then, Show us the Father? |

237 | Bride and Guests at Lamb's Wedding | Revelation | Val | 199810
Revelation 19:7 (1) Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, (2) for the marriage of the Lamb has come and (3) His bride has made herself ready." 1. Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him; begins the second reason for exaltation. These three actions are warranted in light of God the Father’s next agenda item. 2. For the marriage of the Lamb has come; is the reason for the call to rejoice, be glad and the giving of glory. The wedding of the Lamb is announced. This, of course, is metaphorical. There will be no literal wedding. 3. His bride (wife) has made herself ready; completes the metaphor of a wedding. One would expect the text to refer to a bride (numpha) at this point, but the Greek uses the term guna (wife). "Wife" suggests the wedding is completed. However, in Jewish marriage customs, the betrothed virgin was bond to her husband. The marriage ceremony was a consummation of the legal process begun months and sometime years before. The apostle Paul on two separate occasions spoke of a church relationship to Christ in terms of the bridegroom/bride metaphor. 2 Corinthians 11:2 and Ephesians 5:25-32 both develops different aspects of this concept. It is clear in the Old Testament that Israel is the bride of God (Hos 2:19-20; Ezek 16:8-14; Isa 54:1-6). The emphasis here is on the collective whole—the nation of Israel. One is a part of the bride of God by physical birth—the physical seed of Abraham. However, the bride of Christ is formed by faith—the spiritual seed of Abraham. Contributors - Rev. 238 | why is life described as "vain" | Eccl 9:9 | Val | 199805
In reading Solomon's work and life we see that he was a king of Israel at its zenith. He had all the beauty and riches that life could afford. He also disobeyed the Lord by multiplying wives which was a snare to him. In the end he said that riches and pleasures were all vanity and the essence of life is to love God and keep his commandments. This comes from possibly the wisest man who walked the earth. So it seems that he is speaking of one wife here. To want more is vanity.
239 | How were non Jews saved B.C.? | Heb 11:13 | Val | 199804
Yes. How - by following Jehovah. An example would be Ruth in the book of Ruth.
240 | God's decree on His elects - oppression | Jer 50:33 | Val | 199575
Azure, we know the reason that the people were oppressed was that they were suffering for their years of disobedience. However, the Lord always gave hope of restoration. And we see that as they did return under Cyrus. Since I interpret God's program for Israel separate from the program for the church I would say no to your question. Blessings, Val
