EdB, Amen and Amen. You're "singing my tune". While visiting a church awhile ago I approached a soloist, after the service, to compliment her on the powerful message of her song. She glared at me and said, "Look Bucko, it's only a song." She stormed away. I still don't know who or what a bucko is suppose to be. Another time, another church, the long "worship-time" (?) only consisted of songs like "I've got a mansion"; "When we all get to heaven". It causes one to make time to keep time with Him. No pun intended. :) Taleb |

22 | What is sin? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 74253
What is sin? If you want Scriptures definition that's easy. Had you read ALL of Romans 14 (that's one I quoted from last night), you wouldn't have had to ask the question. The answer is spelled out. Romans 14:23 (and remember these words are from His Word)"Whatsoever is NOT of faith, is sin." In order to really understand Romans 14 - you have to really understand God's word. 23 | Is the Sabbath on Saturday? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 74261
Sir, it IS unfortunate and sad that you would misuse my post in a fruitless attempt to prove (?) your faulty argument. True, the Israeli astronaut was brave. He was a STRONG believer in his faith. Had his religion ALLOWED him the freedom that Christ offers us, than he could have had the freedom that I, and others, who accept the truth of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, have. To worship our God with the FAITH that HE gives us. We all have a measure of faith. It’s what WE do with it, and HOW we live it, that makes that faith weak or strong. Romans 14 gives the “definition” of what those mean. At the same time, the Israeli observing his Sabbath has absolutely NO bearing on the basis of whether we Christians MUST worship on the seventh day or MAY observe Sunday or even Tuesday. Ramon would be the first to ask you, “Why do you observe on OUR day? The Christian church from its conception NEVER DID for centuries and centuries.” He would point to the same evidence I pointed out yesterday. Don’t forget, sir, it was the Jews who wrote the evidence you refuse to accept because it disagrees with your religion, even if it DOES agree with God’s Word. Either YOU accept what the New Testament says about this truth, or YOU ignore them and stay in bondage. Don’t blame me, my heritage, or a brave man who can’t defend himself against your illegitimate use of his tragic death. And I KNOW, not only his family would be outraged that you would dare to promote your "religion" in such a ungodly manner. All of Israel and beyond would be. HOW DARE YOU? And, sir, it was Paul who was inspired by the Holy Spirit, who called the CHRISTIANS who attempted to force their burdens on CHRISTIANS who knew the freedom Christ offers – as being weak. Please don’t try to give me credit, or blame, for God’s word. To Him be the glory, not me. I will close this with truth from God’s word, that you can accept or reject according to your faith – If you answer the question that God’s word asks you, it will tell you “the condition” of your faith – “Romans 14:22 “Do you have faith?” Only you can answer that. Continuing, “Have it (faith) to yourself (that’s you) before God (not man or doctrines).” Now, the test: “Happy is he (you, me) who does NOT condemn himself (you, me) in what he (you, me) approves.” If you feel condemned by not observing Saturday, observe. Just don’t try to weaken our faith. We want to remain strong in the truth of God’s word, thank you. With righteous indignation, Taleb |

24 | Is the Sabbath on Saturday? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 74518
Paster Bill J Either you accept ALL of Scripture to be inspired and acknowledge when, how and why Christians may worship on Sunday, or you ONLY believe those that tie in with your particular doctrine. With enough "Jewish blood" to have gone to the furnace in Germany, I have a certain view on "the Sabbath". The above, cut and pasted from an earlier post I wrote, is merely to point out to YOU what you misread the first time through. Please sir, if you can read something that isn’t written in the above, how can you persuade anyone, yourself included, what you claim in your slanderous post of wrongfully judging Christians who ACCEPT what God says He said? I will repeat, out of obvious necessity, “With enough "Jewish blood" to have gone to the furnace in Germany, I have a certain view on "the Sabbath” in order to allow you another opportunity to accept what I said, how I said it, and why I said it. The reason I said, “I have enough Jewish blood to have gone to the furnace” is – although many of my family were not practicing Judism, (we worship on the same day as Christians have since shortly after Christ’s resurrection – Sunday) we still would be considered “Jews” by the Nazi’s merely because of our heritage. Now, do you have a better understanding of why the Lord had me write that “necessary” piece of information? Since you DON’T accept ALL of Scripture to be inspired and acknowledge when, how and why Christians may worship on Sunday, am I at fault? Since you refused to accept even the Jew’s explanation of WHEN Christians began to observe Sunday, and why Christians began to observe Sunday, and what Christian’s throughout the centuries have known and understood from Scriptures to observe Sunday, inspired by God – am I at fault? (The Jews, whom you have dragged their different from Christian’s views, only to try in a failed attempt to prove your personal non-Scriptural point of view) If you honestly believe your own misguided concept that you a falsely claim: (I’m quoting you now) “when you condemn Jews or Israelis for keeping the Sabbath becasue of your "misuse" of the NT. You started your slander in an "a ungodly manner" and now hypocriticaly condemn others while you do the same things” – am I at fault? In answer to you question, “where is my "righteous indignation? I think this post and the one from Tim Moran explains that fruitless question. My question to you is could you please cut and paste from one of my post you stated I did: “Where is your "righteous indignation" when you condemn Jews or Israelis for keeping the Sabbath becasue of your "misuse" of the NT. You started your slander in an "a ungodly manner" and now hypocriticaly condemn others while you do the same things.” Because I can’t locate anything that resembles those “charges” you are condemning me for. And, sir, you are also wrong about being disobedient to God. His word is what I follow and believe not man's. Taleb |

Hank, it's either in Revelation 23, or perhaps he meant one of the other places in "his" bible, like Jude 2, James 6, Titus 4, or any number of Scriptures the rest of us don't have access to. Just a theory that, now that I think about it, really isn't very funny. It's sad. Too sad. Taleb |

26 | Is the Sabbath on Saturday? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 74549
Pastor Bill J, if I may add a bit of personal info to my last post on this thread. On Saturdays my family DOES worship God, together with many others in our church. I DO NOT have to come on Saturday, because the Church also holds 14 different worship services on Sundays, throughout the day and throughout its facility. I could come to one of the many morning ones, one of the afternoon ones, or one of the evening ones – which ever would be my choice. The Lord, according to His own word, leaves such decisions up to me, the same as “do I wear black or brown shoes”. Each of many separate Saturday services offers those leading them more flexibility than the Sunday pastors have, because of the “next Sunday service” starts every hour and a half. Many of our pastors make good use of the facility to accommodate the many “congregations” gathering in “their” place. All of the Saturday ones start and finish at the same time. Although many “after service” groups meet for additional teaching, etc, if they desire. This too might change because ALL of the “sanctuaries” are filling up, so we might have to add additional service times on Saturdays too. So, sir, why would I “condemn” someone, Jew or otherwise, for CHOOSING to worship on the same day I choose to worship my Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God? That’s where we can conclude the “problem” rests in your illegitimate argument DEMANDING what God Himself does NOT demand. Rather, He refutes such demands from mere men. And, with your blatantly placing condemnation upon “Sabbath breakers”, when MY Bible declares there is NOW, (which suggests that in the past there might have been) no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. My family has discovered that even on Saturdays at our church, you had better get here early because the parking lot only holds around 2,500 spaces. That’s why there is talk about increasing the number of services on Saturdays, like they were forced to on Sundays, because the various sanctuaries only hold so many people. To attend here on Sundays, forget it, whenever I desire to fight traffic jams I head into THE city before, or after a ball game. (The road would less crowded on those days) :) Taleb |

Tim, thank you for re-enforcing what God's Word explains to all who "want" to obey. The verse you quoted in Colossians 2:16 was always so frustrating to my Messianic Jew relative. Most of my practicing Jewish relatives refused to talk “religion” with him. And any Mormon family members, well they wouldn't even look him in the eye. I think it might have been because he only accepted bits and pieces of Scripture. I do appreciate reading your postings about whatever – they make for a great teaching and learning tool. Thank you for being so quick to help so many. Taleb |

28 | When did God change "mode" of baptism? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 77186
When did God change the "mode" of baptism today from what it was in Moses’ day, and John the Baptist’s day? Seeing immersion (mikvah) still hasn’t changed for the Jews since it was instituted about the time of their exodus from Egypt. |

29 | When did God change "mode" of baptism? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 77198
mommapbs, You are correct (sort of) that baptism was used in the Old Testament when someone wanted to "convert". And I said "sort of" because it STILL is how one "converts” to Judaism. To answer your 2nd question - yes, the physical action MADE/MAKES them a "Hebrew". Even today, when someone "converts" to Judaism they are “proclaimed” to be the son, or daughter, of Abraham and Sarah. The reason why they become “children” of Abraham is because before God called Abraham to be the father, and Sarah the mother, of the Hebrews, they both were “Gentiles”. They “became” Hebrews. NO convert IS ever called one after they "convert". They are as though they were born into it. That's why so many of them call it "being born again." Interesting, don't you think? Has the purpose of baptism changed is hard to answer. It depends if you mean has God’s purpose changed, or has “the Church’s” purpose changed. God’s remains the same. The church’s – well – we are having a conversation that we wouldn’t be having if it hadn’t changed. Your question: “if you took a white cloth and dipped it in red dye, what kind of cloth is it white or red?” instantly brought to mind one of my favorite, (from thousands) :) promises from God’s precious word “Though MY sins be as scarlet, (red, if you will) they SHALL be made white as snow.” So I guess I will have to give you a “scriptural answer”. The “cloth” God would make white. P.S. I sure appreciate you, mommapds, and you are MOST welcome. Taleb |

30 | Is "mikvah" in the Law or tradition? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 77270
Searcher, I am glad to hear that you, like the Bereans did, check to see “if things are so”. The Hebrew term mikvah (spelled mikveh by some) literally and always means “gathering of water” as Strong’s states in Gen. For centuries before Christ it was a “ritual bath” that, according to “oral tradition” originates in Exodus. When the Law required “cleansing”, the initial ritual of mikvah, or mikveh, took place. Sprinkling or dipping WOULDN’T cleanse, so “completely under” they went. The priest and Levites know WHAT John the Baptist WAS doing. He was doing what had been done for centuries. They needed to know WHO he was. Had it only taken a “little” water, why did people meet him at the river? Why not by a well? A wedding, as in Rev. 19:7, “the bride has made herself ready” means she underwent the ritual of mikvah. For sure she "bathed" herself completely. Many men used, and still use, the ritual to prepare themselves for Passover, for Yom Kippur, for the Day of Atonement. Some participate before the Sabbath, every Friday. You wrote: “I didn't find where God had a person get in water. Can you cite in the OT, where God did so? I believe it was oral tradition, not the Law.” Even though there is no direct mention of mikvah in the Old Testament, the Jews STILL use the story from Exodus 19 as their basis for having a ritual bath. Right before the Ten Commandments were given to Moses, God told Moses to have the people sanctify themselves (make clean, purify) and have them “wash their garments.” Jews still believe these two "things" happened together. Strong’s 3526 sort of defines the word “wash”, “To trample with the feet”. BUT you must notice where else the word is used and that will “cancel” such a lone concept of separate “cleansing”. Psalm 51:7 “Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.” Concerning the “ancient rituals of mikvah” still in effect today, I am reminded of Col 2:17 and 2 Cor 15:46, among other portions of God’s word. Baruch ata Adonai ... Blessed art Thou, Lord our God, King of the universe. Taleb |

31 | When did God change "mode" of baptism? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 77375
Mommapbs, good morning. I attempted to find, on two different search engines that “address” that you provided. They both gave me the old song and dance about not finding it, asking if my spelling was correct etc. It sounds like an “interesting” site to visit. I will make a more frugal attempt later. For now I want to “comment” on question concerning Ex 3:14. Hopefully, my “comment” won’t be too hard to follow. Let me state that spellings in translations vary. When someone asks “Who are you?” we respond according to who spoke. If my daughter asked me that, I would say, “Your father.” Throughout my life, I have responded to such “names” as son, brother, cousin, father, grampy, honey, dear, student, teacher, etc. Those are just SOME of who "I AM". Like you and me, God doesn’t limit Himself to “one” name or, more accurately, one “character”. God is EL HAJ (Living God); AND He is KETHER ETZ CHAIM JEHU (The Crown of the Tree of Life); AND HE is ADONAI ‘TSEBAYOTH (Lord of Army Hosts); AND He is BATH ‘KOL (The still small voice); etc. etc. In Exodus 3, it explains how, or in what manner God made His “appearance” to Moses. “In the flame of the burning bush, the Angel of the Lord APPEARED to Moses.” This WAS God. For it states that “God said out of the bush, “I AM THE GOD OF YOUR FATHERS”. In Exodus 6:2-3 God said (and I believe Him to be telling the WHOLE truth, contrary to what “our translators” say previous Scriptures say.) “I am the Lord. I APPEARED unto Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob BY the name of God Almighty (El Shaddai), but My name "the Lord" (Yawheh) was I not know unto them.” In Exodus 3:14 God is merely stating, in the same fashion “justme” states in his profile, “I’m just who I am. What you see is what you get.” The Hebrew “names” that God introduced Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14 are EHYEH ASHER EHYEH. Our translators say it means I AM “THAT” I AM. Not "exactly". The best way to translate it, for us English speakers to understand, gives you the answer to your question. God is MERELY telling Moses, I AM (whatever I WANT to be) - is what I AM. That is one reason He “appeared” in the burning bush. That helped Moses KNOW God COULD be "whatever". Remember why Moses didn’t get to go into the promise land? He struck the rock, rather than speaking to it. Who WAS the rock? At that time and in that place, God “was exactly what He wanted to be" (“I AM ZUR – the rock”), just as He revealed to Moses in Exodus 3:14. The manna, etc. etc. etc. etc. WAS GOD. Or, if you will, "I AM THE MANNA". In the New Testament. it often “seconds” what I am stating. Jesus often said, “I AM THE ---” So to answer your question: how could one call upon God with the Name He gives Moses in Ex 3:14? You call upon Him by “whatever” YOU NEED to convey. The important thing is – to call upon Him. :) (As I know you well know.) Hopes this helps, and thanks for the “tip on the new site”. My, how I go on when I “talk” about what I love. Taleb |

33 | When did God change "mode" of baptism? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 77822
Mommapbs, last week you asked for my comments on that website you gave to me. What raised your level of concern was their off-the-wall reference about being part of the 144,000. Good, yea, an excellent spiritual eye, even if you gave it only a “brief look see”. What “raised” my level of concern was their off-the-wall reference to “obeying” what neither Jew nor Gentiles have to anymore. They have NO understanding of the Sabbath, or its purpose. And, please don’t “misunderstand me”. To be brief (me brief? What an accomplishment), let me quote from The Jerusalem Bible Hebrews 8:13. “By speaking of a “new” covenant, He (God) implies that the first one is already old. Now anything old only gets more antiquated until in the end “it” disappears.” ”It” (the Old covenant and its rituals, etc.) did “disappear” when the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 A.D. "It" couldn’t be done away with UNTIL after Jesus’ death and resurrection, because, as it says in Heb 9, the new couldn’t take effect UNTIL Christ, our sacrifice died. That “web-site” doesn’t recognize that fact. It obviously fails to take the Book of Hebrews (the book called “the letter to the Jewish Christians”) into account, thereby failing to take 1st Tim 3:16 into account, thereby taking ALL that prophets of old, even Jesus Himself, said --- about what WOULD BE --- into account etc. etc. Thus ends my "brief" comments. :) Respectfully yours, Taleb |

Searcher, sorry it took me to long to return a response. Has your modem ever gone “haywire”? To answer these questions quickly, let me ask you one. Your answer will answer these questions for you. Do you know what the Greek word is for “the first day of the WEEK?” Sabbaton. Strong’s 4521. It is same word translated "week" is translated Sabbath everywhere else. Interesting. Also, in Paul's day and age, (even in many places in the world today) Gentiles worked every day. They didn't keep track with a 7-day week. Jews worked at the most six days in a row, depending on how many "sabbaths" there were. And about when did workers get paid in Corinth? The day they worked was pay day. Matthew 20:1-16 talks about a day’s wage for a day’s work. It is still the same in most of the world today. At the end of the day, everyone is paid. Surely you didn’t think they had pay days like we do, where the employers withholds the first week or two? Respectfully, Taleb |

Steve aka Indiana Jones, right on. It wasn't the God of the Bible who revealed the Qur'an to Muhammad. However, "Allah" didn't start with him. "Allah" is one "name" you can find often in the Old Testament of the Bible. If you have some Hebrew Bible Study aids available, check it out. Even the Jews in Israel sometimes refer to God as Allah - with their own accent of course. Every Muslim that I have talked with has swallowed the same lie about our Scriptures being corrupted. They use as "evidence" the book entitled, "The Gospel According to Barnabas", which is obviously a fraud. I’ve read it and have read about it. Every reliable evidence proves it was written because of all the “mistakes” the Qur’an had in regards to Scripture. But the mistakes in …Barnabas are humorous. It refers to things that weren’t invented for 1,000 years after the real Barnabas died. One thing about the Qur'an that has amazed me, when I was studying in the Middle East years ago, a Lebanese friend explained how her father ONLY used the Qur'an to PROVE that Jesus (Isa) is all that the Scriptures claim Him to be. Only AFTER they see the proof in their own book, and believe in Him as all He is - only then does he give them a copy of Scriptures. All though I have lost touch with a man I used to Pen-Pal with while he was imprisoned, I used to use the Qur'an in the same manner. The portions that agree with Scripture (and there are many) were empathized. I always referred to the 99 various names (actually, they are characteristics, like creator, protector, etc.) of God in my letters. All the names are Scripturally based - and ALL are names we attribute to our Lord and Savior - Jesus the Christ. And Muslims are not the only ones in which we can witness to using "their own material". Mormons, JWs, both use their own books to try to presuade us. Although JW's haven't come around since we moved here years ago - in the past, I have sat with them and "borrowed" their books to disprove what they had just claimed. Sorry to say, the end result has not been what I had prayed - but ---- it took me many years of hearing the truth before it took root. Keep up the good work, Taleb |

38 | To learn the truth | OT general | Taleb | 72422
Thank you, Steve aka Indiana Jones, for the encouraging reminder that it's our God who gives the increase. As far as my Lebanese friend's father's methods - It is not unusual using that means. Muslims, while they "miss the bull's eye on the target" of ALL the truth,(don't we all?) surprisingly enough, they hit it dead center on many things. They just have to be encouraged with the truths they already accept. Everybody needs to “build” on truth, right? In the Qur'an, Jesus is referred to as the Messiah. He was born of a virgin. He was sinless. A miracle worker. The preeminent one. Their example. We, too often, point out the discrepancies in what we believe as opposed to what they already belief. And, after building a workable, two way friendships, answer their questions using the same methods our Lord did - use questions for answers. For example, if they ask, "How can you believe Jesus is the son of God?" You might ask, "Who was Jesus' father?" They would honestly reply, "He didn't have a father." You would ask, "Who else didn't have a father?" They know only one other man who didn't - "Adam". You would ask, "Wasn't God Adam's father"? They would admit that He was. "Then doesn't that make Adam, God's son?" About that time, the tie in of Adam sinned, Jesus didn't. The first Adam - Adam. The second Adam - Jesus. I'm sure you know the Scriptures that will back up these truths that both the Muslims and Christians could see. We must just be like an overworked doctor - keep accepting all the "patience" as needed. On the street, at the mall, rest areas, wherever I encounter a Muslim family I always greet them in their language, and introduce myself. They are often taken back at first, perhaps even a little suspicious of my motives. After all, don’t we American’s think they are all terrorists? That's why I am so verrrrrrrrrrry grateful for your kind words - God does and will give the increase. In much appreciation, Taleb |

Gracefull, What's beautiful about the prophesy of God upon Ishmael is it demonstrates God's love for ALL the descendents of Abraham. Genesis 21:20 proclaims, "God was with the boy as he grew up." And, we know that the descendents of Abraham buried the dead very quickly. (Actually, they still do.) Genesis 25:8-9 explains how close Ishmael stayed - Abraham died, and his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him. That means that Ishmael was where everyone knew he was, and they were on good terms so a "war" wouldn't be waged when whoever entered his camp. And, he was close enough to get to and back for the funeral before the sun went down. A few verses later, (Gen 25:13) Ishmael's family tree is listed. At the top of the list is Kedar. Mecca - the "captial-city" of Islam - Kedar. And Isaiah has this to say about that city built by Kedar. Isaiah 42:10-12 "Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, ... (Vs 11-12) "Let the desert and its towns raise their voices; let the settlement where Kedar lives rejoice. Let them (descendants of Ishmael) give glory to the Lord and proclaim His praise …." To which we all can only say, “Let it be, Lord. Let it be.” In His love, Taleb |

40 | Is Jesus YHWH? | OT general | Taleb | 107222
Aniset, you stated, “Since Jehovah is eternal and had no beginning (Ps 90:2; Re 15:3), the Word's being with God from "the beginning" must here refer to the beginning of Jehovah's creative works. You wrote: “Jesus himself credited God with the creation, as do all the Scriptures.-Mt 19:4-6” Not true! If you read Psalm 89:20-27, you will better understand how Scripture interrupts Scripture. David was the youngest of Jesse’s sons, yet God declared He would make David “the first-born”. God didn’t change the “order of David’s birth”. God meant by “the first born” that David would have preeminent over all the kings of Israel. David is still considered Israel’s “best”. In the context of Col. 1:15, we learn that Col 1:16 informs us “for by Him (Jesus Christ) were ALL things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: ALL things were created by Him (Jesus Christ) and for Him (Jesus Christ).” Surely you are not suggesting that Jesus created Himself, since it clearly states Jesus is the creator of all. This is often confirmed in Scripture. Like Eph 2:9 “…mysteries, which from the beginning of the world have been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ.” Concering your claim Col 1:15; Re 1:1; 3:14) –“Thus the Scriptures identify the Word (Jesus in his prehuman existence) as God's first creation, his firstborn Son.” Haven’t you NOTICED what else Revelation declares concerning the term “the beginning”? Rev 21:6-7 states that the Alpha and Omega, the BEGINNING and the end … I will be their God…” God places Himself in context with the beginning AND the end. Apparently, “beginning” (the Greek word “arche”, from Rev. 3:14) MEANS something other than what you thought. It is the same word we get architect from. In other verses it is translated governor, magistrates, first, principalities. It is also the same word that you will find in Luke 12:11. “arche” is translated “government officials”. Taking Scripture as a whole, Rev. 3:14 IS plainly talking about Jesus Christ (the creator of all things), is the ruler of God’s creation. Blessinigs, Taleb |
