141 | Islamic View of Crucifixion? | John 1:4 | Taleb | 98990
The "Crusades" predate Islam. The book of Judges predates Christ. How far back must one go to recognize that the world is the same as it was all of the yesterdays. Men have always done what it right in their own eyes. It is and always has been brutal. In my lifetime, and I will admit it has been a long one, we have fought war after war after war after war after war after war. Some people kill people in the "Name of Freedom." Some kill people in the name of “God”. What do we call what the Israelites did to Christians who opened their arms, and homes to a ravaged people before they "became a nation"? Most of those thousands slaughtered were Palestinian Christians. Women were raped. Children were butchered and bulldozed over. And, less we forget, that refugee camp in Lebanon. I served in the U.S. Navy years ago. Remember when Israel attacked the United States in June 1967? So do the widows of the U.S.S. Libery. Your statement, “most part a ture Muslim is taught you either convert to Islam or you should die” makes me ask - how is it that for centuries Muslim and Christians lived side by side with the Jews – until Israel stormed in? They even fought side by side numerous times. But most importantly it reminds me of Jesus’ command - “Love your enemies”. Every Muslim that I know has only been won to Christ the same way I was won. Someone loved on me with unconditional love. I don’t “tolerate” killing people – I just tolerate all people. Blessings, Taleb |

Darcy, please understand that I am not contradicting Scripture. Rather I understand what Scripture says about Israel and IT'S NOT what too many study Bible’s foot-notes say under some verses by overlooking the rest of Scripture. What DOES Scripture ACTUALLY say about the “blessing” you referred to? That “Blessing” first showed up in Genesis 12:2-3. In Genesis 17 NOTE the conditions about God “letting in those not of Abraham’s seed”. Can you think of any “who are not directly of Abraham’s seed, that call themselves “Jews”? Check out Genesis 9:27 and you will discover a clue. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in Shem’s tent. Note one descendant of Japheth in Gen. 10:3 was Ashkenaz. Now, Darcy, tell me where you think the MAJORITY of the present day rulers of Israel claim as they descended from. Yup. Every reputable Jewish Encyclopedia, (written by Jews for Jews) will declare the same truth. One such Encyclopedia quotes it this way, “Ashkenez – a people traced back (Gen 10:3 1 Chron 1:6) through Gomer to Noah’s third son, Jaheth.” Members of MY OWN personal family claim this is the reason they are Jews. I desperately love my family, I long for them to experience ALL that Christ has purchased for them too. They are “converts to Judiasm". Now IF the apple of God’s eye includes anyone “born” Jewish PLUS any converts than Liz Taylor and Saammy Davis Jr. are exactly that. They became as much a convert as the "origin" of the vast majority of today’s Israel. Notice what Jesus said to His “fellow Jews” in John 8:37:. “I KNOW YOU ARE descendants from Abraham.” BUT THEN JESUS said to those same Jews (Verse 39b) “IF YOU WERE Abraham’s children, you would do as Abraham did.” Verse 44 “YOU ARE OF YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL.” (I wonder if this statement ties in with John's in Revelation 2:9 "...those who claim to be Jews when they are so, but only a synagogue of Satan.") Paul reiterates this eternal truth in throughout many of his epistles. Looking at the Galatians 3 should suffice, because it brings us back to where it all started. Verse 8 says, “So you see, the REAL descendants of Abraham are the men of faith. The WHOLE chapter, actually the whole book, pinpoints the essence of this discussion. Verse 16 - “Now the promises were made to Abraham and his seed. It DOES NOT SAY to your seeds, in the plural, but in the singular, “and to your SEED, that is Christ.” Verse 26- 28 “For in Christ Jesus YOU ARE ALL sons of God through faith. ….There is NO ROOM for Jew etc. for in union with Christ Jesus your are all one. Verse 29 “And IF you belong to Christ, then YOU are TRUE descendents of Abraham …’ There is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many verses in the NEW Testament that cancel the OLD's concept of Israel. Blessings to you – Taleb |

143 | correct | John 13:1 | Taleb | 74599
The Jews celebrated the Passover and the Feast of Unleaven Bread long after Christ's "completed it" when He BECAME the slain Lamb of God. Thereafter, His disciples celebrated, as Jesus instructed them to, by partaking in communion. John 13:1 describes not only the last supper, but also the LAST Passover feast. 1 Corinthians 11:20 ff calls it the Lord’s Supper. In Acts 12:3 it mentions the “Feast of Unleaven Bread”, but in the context of the Jews verses the Church (made up of those who “used” to be Jews par se). King Herod killed the apostle James, John’s brother and noticing that it pleased the Jews to preceded to arrest Peter. That was during the Feast of Unleaven Bread, which the Jews was celebrating, but the disciples, knowing the truth of the Gospel of their Lord, didn’t. And KNOWING that the myth about "Easter" over the facts of how and why Christians celebrate it, Easter is just as my dictionary defines it. Nothing more, and here’s what it says: “n. a festival of the Christian Church to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ: adj. pertaining to Easter.” Anyone who accepts the myth that says "Easter" is from some pagan's myth over the facts of Christ's victorious resurrection - well what can I say? 144 | Is THE SABBATH ON A SATURDAY | John 20:19 | Taleb | 109246
Excuse me, perhaps you will answer some questions that have been haunting me for some time. I have relatives that practice their faith in like manner as you. I will appreciate any input you may offer that sheds light on this topic that they can't explain. What day did Abraham (the father of the Jewish faith, if you will) keep for his sabbath? Why are believers called "sons of Abraham" NOT Moses since the "law" took effect in Moses' day? Thank you, Taleb |

145 | Is THE SABBATH ON A SATURDAY | John 20:19 | Taleb | 109252
P.S. "Here I am Lord", please understand that for the last year plus, my wife and I have personally WORSHIP the Lord in Church on Saturday. Often we bring a neighbor boy whose father happens to be a pastor. His Church worships the Lord on Sunday. I appreciate any info you may offer. Blessings, Taleb |

Emmaus, WELCOME BACK!! A few days ago I was reading some of the postings, (I try to catch some of the topics everyday, yet don't "get involved" very often) and lo and behold there you were again. I have quoted various Justin Martyr's writings over the years - He was quite a powerhouse for God's truth. Blessings, Taleb Blessings, |

147 | Is THE SABBATH ON A SATURDAY | John 20:19 | Taleb | 109369
I'm sorry. Perhaps I should have explained my statement about my worshipping on Saturday. I apologize. On Saturdays my family DOES worship God, together with many others in our church. I DO NOT HAVE to come on Saturday, because the church also holds 14 different worship services on Sundays, throughout the day and throughout its facility. I could come to one of the many morning ones, one of the afternoon ones, or one of the evening ones – which ever would be MY choice. Our 20 plus pastors make good use of the enormous facility to accommodate the many “congregations” gathering in “their” place. With two separate Saturday services to choose from, we are able to make great use of the time. Although many “after service” groups meet for additional teaching, etc, if they desire. We believe what His entire word declares about the topic. We don’t take here a verse, there a verse, that agrees with us. Otherwise we would have to ignore, or black out the Scriptures that disagree. I accept everything that Scripture states about the Sabbath, NOT merely what it says about being on the seventh day. With enough Jewish background, I understand the premise of a Sabbath Day NOT just being every Saturday. Sometimes “the Sabbath” falls on Tuesday, or any other day of the week, AND on Saturday. Like the TWO separate Sabbaths that fell during the week of Jesus’ death. Colossians 2:16 is one of many places which refer to observing a day of rest. “Allow no one, therefore, to be your judge in regard to eating and drinking, or the observation of a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.” Blessings, Taleb |

148 | Each apostles death? | Acts | Taleb | 73569
James death is recorded in Acts 12. The others are from church history. In the back of one of our Bibles, is a list. If this is the same list you were looking for, great. If not – sorry. Matthew suffered martyrdom by being slain with a sword at a city in Ethiopia. Mark died in Alexandria, after having been cruelly dragged through the streets of that city. Luke was hanged upon an olive tree in the land of Greece. Peter was crucified at Rome with his head downward, during Nero’s persecution. John was put into a caldron of boiling oil, but escaped death in a miraculous manner, and was afterwards banished to Patmos. James the greater was beheaded at Jerusalem. James the lesser was thrown from the pinnacle of a temple and then beaten to death with a club. Philip was hanged up against a pillar at Heirapolis in Phrygia. Barthalomew was flayed alive. Andrew was bound to a cross from which he preached to his persecutors until he died. Thomas was run through the body with a lance at Coromadel in the East Indies. Jude was shot to death with arrows. Matthais was first stoned, and then beheaded. Barnabas was stoned to death by the Jews in Salonica. Paul, after various tortures and persecution, was finally beheaded at Rome by Emperor Nero. |

Hank, your comment, as usual was well thought out. Thank you for reminded us all to be mindful of others. Everyday, in so many places, such goes on. It's sad but true, at least from "our" prospective. Over the years, I have read a few books about the death of some of the “saints” depicted throughout God’s-story (HIStory). Often, the martyred spent the last moments on this side of eternity with praise and adoration on their lips. Hebrews 11:35b remains the same today. “… Others endured torture, and refuse to accept release, that they might rise again to a better life.” No wonder Psalms 116:15 boldly declares: “Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints.” The verse gives credence to the premise, “Not a sparrow will fall, without God nodding approval, and you are more valuable than many sparrows.” (Matt. 10) Yes, in this world we shall hear of such horrors as you described. Too many will experience them with their own eyes. Too many others will experience it with their very lives. But then, the Greek word “witness” is “Martur”. God’s best to you, as you offer Him your best. Taleb |

150 | I would like to learn more about this! | Acts 1:11 | Taleb | 79198
Jesus WARNED against being deceived on this very topic, the one area of the Christian faith in which MOST apparently ARE deceived. IF I was to take a survey on how many adhered to the dun-trib; or the pre-trib theory; or the mid-trib theory; or the post-trib theory; or the two rapture theory; or the pan-trib theory, which would receive the latest following? IF an equal amount of Christians believed each separate theory, that means that MORE THAN 83 PER CENT BELIEVE THE WRONG ONE. No wonder the world laughs at our rantings and ravings. The truth of the matter is ONLY ONE "theory" can be right. Yet, dogmatically, every one uses the very same Scriptures to back "their personal view-point" up, and they ALL disprove the other theories. Besides ignoring the blatant clues, that stand out for the world to see, in those same portions of Scripture. Some people I have talked with have never heard of any “theory” except their own. I often have that same reaction when I discover someone is an evolutionist. I ask them which evolutionary theory they believe? Their expression usually demonstrates their total ignorance of that faulty science. More often than not, they, like the followers of the various rapture theories never had a clue that all the others disprove theirs, no matter which evolutionary theory they swear by. If you read through the last 1,800 years of church history, you will quickly discover that they ALL pretty much agreed. Now you can be deflocked from a church for believing THE BOOK over "their" books. Why can't we agree with Scripture and its followers and those through the ages? Jesus, and Paul, warned us not to allow ANY MAN to deceive us. Yet, sadly enough, today the "church at large" believes the authors of books - rather than the Author and finisher of our eternal lives. Respectfully, Taleb |

Searcher, I need to differ with you about a few conclusions you have drawn. You stated, “Where (known) tongues is one of the gifts - listed last, therefore not a greater gift (vs 31).” Does that mean that at the end of 1 Cor 13: where faith, hope and love are listed and it explains that the greatest of these three is love – faith is the least because it is listed first? And, if “tongues” were “known languages”, how come Paul spoke it more than anyone else, yet he admitted he had no idea what he was saying. He also suggested “pray that there be someone to interpret so people would know what was said.” Duh. Whoops, Acts 15:8 does not say "no tongues". Peter is most likely talking about his time with Cornelius. That ties Acts 15 with Acts 10. They spoke in tongues BEFORE they were baptized in water. If it wasn’t Cornelius, than that meant Peter ministered to more Gentiles than most think. Anyway, Peter stated that THE GENTILES received the Holy Spirit EVEN AS WE DID. Not differently than we did. Not different than anyone else did. The “evidence” – speaking in tongues. And Acts 8:15-17 – How do you suppose Simon realized people received the Holy Spirit by Peter laying his hands upon them? What “evidence” did those people who received the Holy Spirit offer Simon? And don't you suppose the many who were added to the church in Acts 2:38-41? They were promised the "gift of the Holy Spirit" and we can rest assured He come into them with His gifts which bring us back to 1 Corinthians. And IF that whole church wasn't "speaking in tongues", then why did Paul lecture about how not to, and how to use the gift of tongues? Of ALL the churches where Peter, John, Paul etc. preached and visited throughout their ministry, how many do you dare to suppose weren’t filled with people filled with the Holy Spirit following their “teacher’s” example of speaking in tongues? Be ye filled with all He offers, Taleb |

John Reformed, I agree with you on that about tongues not "being the entire evidence" of being baptized in the Holy Ghost. It is ONLY ONE of the gifts. But, we must admit, IT IS A GIFT, and like my grandchildren, they can sometimes "abuse" what I give them. :) Taleb |

Searcher, allow me to state at the offset, your “comeback” is well thought out and informative. I’ve never “noticed” the “first, second” etc. Thank you for pointing out those important facts. My “problem” lies with the concept that tongues are “known languages”. Here is a simple test I often use when I hear, or learn, that a word means “such and such”. It MOST ALWAYS works. I find other places where that same word is used and I read it using the word’s “definition”. It “should fit” otherwise something is most likely wrong. “Tongues” is one of those I “tested”. If “tongues” actually means “known languages” (and I understand how that conclusion is drawn -from Acts 2:11 where the Greek word, Strong’s 1258, Dialektos was used), WHY DIDN'T Luke use “Glossa” (Strong’s 1100)? By the way, do you have any idea which English word is derived from that Greek word dialektos? Yup, dialect. About that “test I used” – Let’s try it. We will use the “known language” definition in place of “tongues” to see if it holds the muster. Luke 16:24 uses the “Glossa” (Strong's 1100) word like most all the "tongues" in 1st Cor. Lazarus and the rich man had died. The rich man is in hell and asked, “… dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my known language.” OK, one from many more. James 3:6: “And the ‘known language’ is a fire … so is the ‘known language’ among our members.” Nope. I would say that “tongues means known language” doesn’t pass the test. And, Searcher, don’t forget the other Greek word translated “tongues”. Heteroglossos (Strong’s 2084) argues in favor of what you stated tongues means – speaking a foreign language. However, It is used only once, 1 Cor. 14:21. Whereas the next five (5) "tongues" in that chapter only uses Strong's 1100. The overall content of our response rings sadly true. Even after a couple thousand years, we, too often, still don’t “get it” right in Church. Really, Searcher, I DO appreciate your soul-searching, valid comments. And not ONLY on this thread. :) His Peace, Taleb |

Sniper, my point was, and is, that Searcher's "definition of known languages" doesn't fit, because it really doesn't. I’ll reiterate the results of “my test” one more time, slightly changing my “terminology” to help convey the truth thereof. IF the term “tongues”, giving in the context of being “produced” by the Holy Spirit through any particular individual, actually means “known languages”, the Holy Spirit, who wants for us today to understand what HE meant then, WOULD only, and always, have used “dialektos” in each case, rather than “glossa”. Why? Because “dialektos” “means” a known language, while the other “glossa” offers too many possible “meanings” to be used as “evidence”. As a reminder, “dialektos” was used in Acts 2:6. (I stated Acts 2:11 before, but that is “the other tongue word, glossa”. (Whoops) This is the MAJOR verse used to “demonstrate” that ALL the other “tongues” ONLY and ALWAYS means what this one says about men hearing them speaking in “their own language”. Thanks for your input, and for pointing out how “silly” it was the first time through. :) Taleb |

Ray, I haven’t heard the phrase “charismatic” for soooo long. :) Actually, I’m surprised it’s still around. I remember when a friend was asked years ago if he was a Charismatic. His response was – “Only if it’s good to be one, because the same Spirit that raised Christ from the grave lives in me, and I want Him to stay. He doesn’t care for anything that isn’t good.” When asked if he spoke in tongues, he quickly stated, “My tongue speaks IN me.” “Charismatic” I have forgotten, but his responses live on. As far as which translation I used in my salutation – that IS Romans 8:11. I do however read from multitudes of translations. KJV; NAS; Philips; A.A.T; NJKB; NIV; Berkley; the Jerusalem Bible; and the NAB name a few I glean from and all of which state the same truth. Your “Ephesians 1:17, "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him." I submit to you that this [holy] spirit of wisdom and of revelation leads us to knowledge of Spirit and faith in the Lord Jesus”, is well taken. What follows explains WHY Paul wrote about obtaining that spirit of wisdom AND of revelation. “… that you might KNOIW what is the hope of His calling, AND what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, AND what the exceeding greatness of His power in us who believe …” And clinched with verse 23 “…and you are yourselves built up into a dwelling for God through the Spirit. Apparently, unless Paul prayed “vainless” prayers, the Ephesians NEEDED to understand what many in our churches NEED to understand. Yes, Ray, “The fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of wisdom” - Ps 111:10. “The fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of knowledge” – Prov. 1:7. The fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of wisdom: AND the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding – Prov. 9:10. The grace of our Lord be with your spirit, Taleb |

158 | Why not Baptize as Jesus said to? | Acts 19:5 | Taleb | 107939
Punkiedo, according to the definitions of the word ‘name’, when Jesus’ cousin John baptized people, whose “name” did he use? In Acts 19, a dozen believers, asked about their baptism, told Paul that they had been baptized “unto John’s baptism”. They were quickly re-baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. We need to understand this tells us that they were baptized under the “authority” of Jesus' name. “Name” (what people call you) is only part of what the word signifies. A police officer shouting, “Stop in the NAME of the law”, gives us a wonderful example of what Scripture is trying to convey in Act 19:7. Jesus said, “I give you authority to … in my name”. That authority comes the same way jurisdictions have the authority to give authority to a policeman, equipping him with the "power" to be able to “stop” people's cars merely by holding up a hand. If you notice what Acts 19:13,15 shares about the “name of Jesus”, it will help you understand what I am saying. “But certain traveling Jews who practiced exorcism undertook to name over those that had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, ‘We exercise you by Jesus whom Paul preaches..’ But answering the evil spirit said, ‘I know Jesus, and I comprehend Paul, but who are you?’” Nothing at all would happen if I shouted to anybody, “Stop in the name of the law.” I have NO authority to do so, is the reason. The “name of the law” (notice "law" is singular) distributes “authority” concerning ALL laws, much the same as Jesus does to His people. And it is that authority that empowers people to be baptized. People don't respond to a policeman's command with, "Which law? There are thousands of laws." Acts doesn't say, "And Paul (or Peter, or Matthew) said, 'I baptize you in the name of Jesus.'" Happy New Year, Taleb |

Punkiedo, I’m sorry, but your note provided more questions than answers. For instance: What made you write – “when a lady gets married she is suppose to take on her husband's name”? Is there are a Bible verse that tells a woman she is suppose to? From my experience of living in the Middle East, the wife keeps her last name and the children take on the mother’s last name. Also, we have ministered with certain tribes in Latin America where their children also take on their mother’s name. Too often, we "think" our way of life is God-ordained. That’s one reason why the good ol’ USA is so unwelcomed in the world. One verse that contradicts that particular thought of yours is Gen. 2:34 “That’s why a MAN WILL LEAVE HIS own father and mother He will cleave to his wife, and the two become one flesh.” Who did it say will "leave" HIS family? Your statement “And jesus was baptized unto JOHN's baptism at that time …,” reminded me of Mark 10:39 “…and Jesus said to His disciples, ‘You shall drink from the cup from which I must drink. And you will be baptized just as I must!’ According to the above verse, were Jesus and His disciples re-baptized, or was Jesus referring to one of the OTHER baptisms that Heb 6:2 lists as “doctrine of baptisms”? (Note “baptisms” are in the plural.) Are we to use the "name of Jesus" in our dealings with the other baptisms too? I noted you dropped a few IMPORTANT words in your sentence “If you are baptized in the name of the father son and holy ghost” …If you had worded it correctly, I would have answered it without comment. Had you asked (as it is in the Greek) “If you are baptized in the name of the father, AND OF THE Son, AND OF THE Holy Ghost, whose follower are you?” (Emphasis mine.) That’s easy. I AM HIS follower. Praise HIS name. Blessings, Taleb |

Punkiedo, please forgive me. I never intended to get your blood pressure up. My intention was ONLY to point out to you the error of your faulty conclusions. I agree with the others, who posted after your unnecessary reply. Like others who adhere to false doctrines, your “evidence” reveals many holes. One of many purposes of this forum to “plug such holes.” Without coming up for air you stated you checked my reference in Heb 6. But then you blatantly contradicted yourself. You stated:” I looked it up in the greek text btw and it is NOT plural it is SINGULAR”. Now I will cut and paste YOUR PROOF from the NIV. “…Heb 6:2 instruction about baptisms,” . And, you provided more proof by quoting KJV -” Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms.” Please note the plural-making-letter “S” on baptisms from both of YOUR insufficient proofs of it being singular. Huh? You don’t read what is written, you read from a pre-supposed mentality, wrong as it is. My “proof”? I wrote this statement – “Too often, we "think" our way of life is God-ordained. That’s one reason why the good ol’ USA is so unwelcomed in the world.” With wild imagination you, in so many words, attempt to rob me of my patriotism. I wholeheartedly agree with your “I was taught to love this freedom and this country, and that just like salvation my freedom has come at a great price.” Perhaps you recognize that price because your own family paid what mine paid. Or perhaps you only know “about” the cost of freedom by watching John Wayne movies. As a WW2 war-orphan, I know first hand the expense of freedom. My infantry officer father in the US Army was killed in action in Germany shortly before the end of WW2. And, as your family, the survivors of mine love this land. because we were war-orphans, my brothers and I were exempt from military duty. As we became of age we joined, against my mother's wishes. So she had a MP son in the Army, a LT in the Marines, a radar tec in the Air Force, and a sailor (me) in the Navy. This is also part of the price that was paid for YOU. Please, re-read the only comment about this great land of ours and try again to tell me HOW I “criticized” this wonderful country. What prompted you to state, “I feel like if you do not appreciate this country I am sure there will be one less generous willing to welcome you in”? Your comment was not only unwarranted, it was uncalled for and most certainly without a smidgen of worthwhile merit, as was much of the rest of your comments. My original comment stands. It was tied to my comment giving reference to your faulty “evidence” about a woman taking her husband’s name as proof that we are to baptize in Jesus name only. The good ol’ USA too often DOES think that our ways ARE God’s ways, and this falsehood is as contrary to Scripture as insisting that baptism MUST be according to one’s minute understanding of God’s mighty word. I have seen firsthand the evidence in numerous countries. Teaching the rest of the world that “taken the man’s name in marriage” is ONE of many such wrongs the good ol’ USA attempts to pass on as ordained of God. Thank for proving my point about us attempting to force “our culture” on the rest of the world. You correctly stated, and I cut and paste what you wrote - “I was using a cultural example.” Blessings, Taleb P.S. Your statement: “FOURTHLY, now I want to apologize ahead if I seem a little rude or upset,” - I forgive you and accept the apology offered. Thanks. |
