202 | Overcome by the power of God? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 19710
Dear Steve...Forgive me if I misunderstand. I did find in my NIV where the men "..drew back and fell to the ground." And there is no capital "h" in v6. And in the NLT "...they all fell backward to the ground!" And there is no capital "h" in v6. And in the NASB "...they drew back and fell to the ground." And there is a capital "H" in v6. So did they fall backward or not? It is a time like this that I wish I could read the Greek. The difference in translations, in this case, may be more significant than I first thought. I study using the NIV and that is why I answered the way I did. I am not kidding about my Army story. But my experience differed in training versus combat duty. You are right if your experience was during peacetime. In a training situation there was no fooling around. But in a combat situation it was a tension reliever. Really. And Jesus was not the enemy in any case, He was the objective of their mission but no threat to them. Peter maybe :) More importantly, are we suggesting that this detachment went ahead with an arrest eventhough they had experienced the power of God? What then about Pauls jailer in Acts 16:29-30? He, the jailer, was also a trained Roman guard and was impressed by what he saw but he did not put Paul and Silas back in jail as would have been his duty. So it is difficult to say that Roman soldiers would "never" do this or that. Maybe John 18:4ff is not exhaustive enough to come to any conclusion. I do not know of course but I will follow this debate. God Bless...Jensen |

Dear Alp...Welcome to the forum :-) You quoted "'I am He'" from John 18f. But it may be "I am he" with small h. They were not asking for God but a man from Nazareth. They were acting on orders from their military superiors and being led by a civilian named Judas. They were carrying a lot of equipment (torches, lanterns, weapons) and I want to draw on some personal experience if you will indulge me :-) I remember the military service I performed. I was in the infantry and we walked everywhere. Long distances through various terrains were common. We were not sure, if we had a hint, of where we were going, and what the objective of this walk was for. We followed orders. But one thing I recall (with some humor due to the variety of clowns in our bunch and the circumstances)was when we finally reached our objective and were told to take a break by order, or by general acknowledgement that the objectives coordinates had been met, and dependent upon the situation at hand, many of us with me included, would just fall to the ground "in place",ie. wherever we were standing. Just fall in place. Is it possible that those who fell to the ground, not to include Judas (?), were just glad to be there. It was observed, it was recorded. It became a part of the historical record. Jesus was not a threat, was He? That may be the difference in reading the verse with a capital "h." But I am a history major, and have this mindset :-) So "slain in the Spirit" is not part of this verse to me. Due to my own experience in similar situations. and imagination is part of His Image. 205 | What does Matthew 24: 28 mean? | Matt 24:28 | Jensen | 19602
Dear Heartfire...Another view.... When vultures come they come just at the right time. They will circle in the air untill just the right time, in this case waiting for when something is completly dead. When the Son of Man comes it will be just at the right time. When He comes it will be unmistakable (v.27), in God's own time (v.28). When He comes it will be just at the right time. Hope this helps :) God Bless...Jensen |

Casiv.......Once again you do not answer the question. The question was one of Astrology. It must be obvious to all by now that you are on some mission other than a bible study. You make things up,...take verses out of context,...and say very mean things to people who mean you no harm. My observation is that you put more faith in numbers, which were not part of the manuscripts, than you do in Jesus and what He said, and which is part of the manuscript. I can not speculate on why except that, perhaps, one day you found yourself bored with the plain teaching of the Bible. Please leave me alone. Trying to follow your illogic has become tedious. 207 | How do you know there is a God? | Ps 46:10 | Jensen | 19481
Dear Maryann... Not only is there a God but He loves you and has a wonderful plan for the rest of your life and the life of your child as well. I want to add to the posts of heartfire and Reformer Joe since they went to the heart of the matter when they spoke of science. For someone such as yourself who is not sure if God exists sometimes the best proof can come from a scientific point of view. Most modern scientists begin with the premise that there is no God. If creation is true, they reason, scientific exploration has no further value. And if there really were a God then He may want us to do something that may change our lives, the way we think and act. So it is easier to have no God. But it was not always this way. Nearly every one of the early scientists were Christians or Jews. What they saw was Intelligent Design in nature. Such as the eye. If you have a mouse trap handy (or can imagine it) look how it is put together. There is a platform, a spring of some sort for tension, a u-shaped bar, and a place for bait, a trip mechanism, and some staples to hold it all in place. Now, what is the one thing you can remove from the trap and still have it perform its function (purpose) of catching mice. Maybe some writing which is not important to its function can be removed. Anything else? Well, no. It all must be there, and in its place to perform the function of catching a mouse. Now scientists say that given enough time these parts could all come together on their own and become, or evolve into, a mousetrap. Did you just laugh at that thought? That is because you recognize intelligent design when you see it. You and your child are intelligent designs. Who designed you? Today, some scientist (especially micro-biologists) recognize intelligent design in nature, but they do not know who the Designer was. Some speculate that life from another planet must have visited Earth and began life here. They are now recognizing, and acknowledging that nature is the result of a design. You see, Maryann, our bodies are made up of protein molecules. Each molecule is made up of several different kinds of amino acids that must be in perfect position to perform its function or the molecule will not survive and would fail to perform its function, like the mouse trap but with one big difference. You see it takes about 250 amino acids to make up a single protein molecule, the mousetrap has but a few. A protein molecule is the product of a complex intelligent design. Who do you think designed it? We go through some pretty hard times in our lives because something went wrong with the design. We were not meant to have such problems in our lives but something corrupted the design. We know that as sin. Sin entered the design through one man and none of us have escaped its' effects. Sin hurts and also keeps us from knowing our Maker as He wants to know us. Can you imagine someone designing a machine with no intended purpose, no function, and no way to tell the machine how it should behave? Can you imagine a Creator who has no way to communicate with His creation, no purpose for it, and no function to perform? There is a God Maryann, and He wants you to have a better life, free from tears or at least to have comfort in your times of stress. It is sin, yours and mine and everyone elses, that keeps us from coming closer to our maker. The good news is that He has sent us someone to make right all that went wrong and that will be our comfort. He has paid for our sins so that we are now seen as having no sin. Jesus has paid the price. Our Maker has told us the way to a better life while we are here and, more importantly, an even better life when we die. We are told to accept His free gift of this better life by accepting Jesus as our Lord, and our Savior. Maryann, do you know that if you died today that you would go to heaven? Are you sure or not? Would you like to be sure? God Bless......Jensen |

Dear Friend Serenetime........I seized upon the word "constellations" in my post to casiv and if you would please show me the place of astrology (not numerics) in Christianity I will have a new study :-) You further presume I have no concordance and no discernment. You are wrong on both counts. You also presume that CASIV is a male. I assumed she was a female (hence Miss Cleo) since I have discerned that CASIV is easily deceived by numbers. Jesus never said "trust no man" as kalos has pointed out to you, but Paul's letter to Timothy did mention a couple of things; First,1 Tim 4:1 describes what would happen in later times (following deceiving spirits) and second, 1 Tim 2:14 tells us that it was the woman who was deceived. Women just seem to go for this stuff. No, not all women, just as some men are easily deceived. I did not think that I was insulting as you say because I responded in a manner like Casivs' earlier posts. I try to talk to a person on their level, wherever they are, and however they talk. I blend in well with unbelievers too if I have to so that I may get to the Good News somehow. Some cultures (sub-cultures actually) use language that may seem insulting to us (or me) but if that is the way they communicate then fine. I try to make the point using the familiar language style. You do not need to come to Casivs' defense unless you know that she was insulted. But....I apologize to you and to Casiv for my reference to Miss Cleo (Tarot reader) but I am at a loss to come up with a better comparison at this time :-) In the Father's love indeed.......Jensen |

Dear Nolan........Thank you for your kind offer. I have been through much in my life and I know how to handle a bully:) It was just unexpected and took me a bit by surprise. Constellations?...I now finally understand where you are coming from. Astrology (constellations) has no place in Christianity. Thank you for your responses to my questions but now I think I have been asking Miss Cleo. At least that explanation satisfies why numerology is so important to you. Come away from it. Please study the plain speaking Bible and avoid looking for the secrets of the Gnostics. They do not exist and you will be a stumbling block to other Christians if you are so adamant. You do not have a special knowledge and I am happy that the Lord has shown this to me. No reply is needed. God Bless....Jensen |

212 | Does Mark 7:19 contradict Acts 15:29? | Mark 7:19 | Jensen | 19113
Please explain why Mark 7:19 is not in contradiction to Acts 15:29. Does the fact that one is said by Jesus and the other by an agreed upon letter make a difference? I do not think so. I already believe that the Bible has no contradictions. I just want to be equipped to answer this question since it was put to me some time ago(before I found this Forum) and I was at a loss to explain. I have searched this question on the Forum and it appears not to be answered in a straight forward manner. Please avoid smoke and mirrors. If you do not know, please, please do not guess:-) God Bless....Jensen |

213 | FATHER fixation? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 19037
No you are not the bully. This bully is no Christian or is so wrapped up in himself that he is blinded by his pride. He considers us lucky to have him post on this site. What is outrageous or funny at least, is that recently he placed himself among those in the ivory tower while apologizing, as a Christian would, for not including more people...by name. What arrogance. I see it a lot at some churches usually among the long tooth bunch. It is one reason I do not have a church home. I have enough idiocy to put up with in the world. It is just a shame that none of his friends have pointed it out to him...YET. :-) He's probably a minister/ or elder of a stagnant church, I would bet my bottom dollar on it. But I suspect you know who I mean. Nuff said :-) God Bless....Jensen |

Please just answer the one question I asked. Where in the Bible does it say that the number 12 represents what you called "governmental perfection". You have taken the number 12 and based a lot on it. But you say that "Maybe we should concentrate on the number twenty because that is redemption." I would like to understand one number at a time but thanks for the offer :-) Why does the number twelve represent "govermental perfection"? It seems like a simple question for someone like yourself who has spent much effort in studying these things. I have not. I know there were twelve tribes of Israel but that is about it. If you want to stop trying to explain these things to me I will understand. But you did offer :-) God Bless Jensen |

Dear Hali...I agree that wine was used as symbols in some of his verses. Do you believe that using wine inside the church with the Lords Supper or Communion is an important issue for modern Christians. Should we use wine if at all possible? God Bless Jensen |

216 | Juice/wine poll results? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18763
The unofficial results are in!!! The people on the Forum are like everybody else :) First, I have no home church. Large, non-denominational churches that I attend universally use grape juice. Catholic churches I attend use wine. Smallest churches use either, and in my home we use wine. It is a curious thing for me. And as a newer believer, and Solo Biblia, I just keep coming back to the fact that Jesus blessed the wine not the grape juice. I wonder at what point the Protestant churhes began substituting. And why they began can not be that important. There was a camping trip for the youth of a particular church that used Pepsi Cola and cookies as elements while camping. Please do not give this much thought. Debate not divide. It's just da darndest thaaang :-) God Bless Jensen |

217 | Only seal and horse in same verse Rev6:5 | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18758
I agree with you. 2 Cor 8:8 does mean that He wants True Love and Friendship from us. And you know what James told us also in 2:26 "For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead." But mostly it comes down to the fact that the FATHER owns it all anyhow. Corinth recognized how they were to mature in their walk. They also had many great speakers, men of intellect the FATHER tells us. I do not know if it was a change of mind or a change of heart but they grew; as we must also. Thats what I like about that verse 2 cor 8:8 also. I'm sorry for all the questions but you did ask me to pick a single topic and I agree. So that I may begin my study here is my question:) What are the numbers of the chapters and verses that the FATHER uses to tell us that Judas was part of governmental perfection. Judas was, well you know:) If the number 12 is perfect with Judas than pure perfection must be a different number higher than 12. And perhaps there is a different number that represents confusion and disorder? Please tell me if I am making sense to you. I too never believe anything straight up without looking at it from all sides. GOD BLESS Jensen |

218 | FATHER fixation? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18720
PERSONAL NOTE - CHARIS I am fixing on the Father because I try to fix on God. When I think of God I think of the FATHER. When I think of JESUS I think of the Son knowing that God is implied to another Christian. When I think of the HOLY SPIRIT, I think of His image He gave me when I was Created, but God is still inferred by other Christians. I think that using all CAPS is giving praise to GOD knowing what the OT copiests went through before they wrote the name of God. God has our respect and we may choose to show it by doing little things as part of our daily lives, like using CAPS. Also, Sir Pent is trying to get us organized a bit. One of the suggestions was that we try real hard to stay on topic. I wouldn't even mention it but you have always been kind and respectful in your notes and so I believe you will take the suggestion in the right way :) GOD Bless Jensen |

Dear Pastor Tim. Thank you for your concern for me with "biblical numerics". I will be careful:) God Bless Jensen PS. If 666, as part of Revelation, is "not something hidden" as you say then what does it mean? Is 666 not a "biblical numeric"? |

Bless you for so many questions. But now I can ask some too after I answer yours:) Yes to first question. I have now read 2 Cor chap. 8 verse 8. The FATHER through Paul seems to be saying that since some churches give more offerings (while having less to offer) that the church in Corinth should pony up. But do so willingly first. He says that he(Paul) is not giving a command from the FATHER but only wants them to give to prove the sincerity of their love. He says that other churches are setting a better example in offerings. I like this verse too. It is easy, I think, to talk a good game but the proof is in your actions. Why do you like the verse? About Genesis. I think that the first 11 chapters from the FATHER are or should be a wake up call to any Christian who believes any part of the lie of evolution. I believe all that the FATHER has revealed in His Book. We are made in the FATHERS image. He made us. We did not come from monkeys but some times we act like monkeys:) Most evolution Christians are denying the straight up reading of the account of human origins. I believe that the FATHERS book should be read as a straight forward revelation. I do not try to insert magical verses to explain what some Christians call gaps in the creation record. Genesis is the foundational Book of the FATHER. It has all the beginings of what is true. I looked at the science and the science can offer proof to a non believer. And then take the non believer to the Good News of JESUS. Have you ever studied this Book. My favorite verse is Genesis chap. 1 and verse 1. Do you think that Christians should read Genesis straight up? Without reading things that are not there? Like a real 6 day creation. Six days of 24 hours each. Just read what is there. I do not see a mystery here. Do you? My bible translation is NIV. It was given to me by the man who pointed me in the right way. I have read some verses in others, but the NIV is what I use regularly for myself. I know that the NIV has some comments in it that do not make sense to me so I just concentrate on what the FATHER has said. The FATHER says it all:) I do want to ask some questions on Revelation book but I do not pretend to understand enough to ask the right question. So here goes one anyway:) How does the number 11 mean eternity? I know that the number 666 is an important number and is a puzzle for many(me too) but I want to know more about 11 if you can say. God Bless Jensen |
