221 | Only seal and horse in same verse Rev6:5 | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18529
May I Learn at your knee :) I have always been a little (lot) concerned with my reading/understanding of that great Book. That is primarily due to being a relativly recent Christian (1996) and have ,to date, concerned myself with other parts of the letter of the FATHER. My particular interest is the first 11 chapters of Genesis. I love creation. I appreciate creation from a scientific point of view. But what you speak of is something that I have been reluctant to study, actually avoiding bible studies on this topic I have a fear of giving some mis-interpretation. Or maybe it is not my time to understand all that HE has for me. But I am intrigued. Intrigued because of my study of Creation. Nothing the FATHER does would surprise me since it is all good :) I would like for you to give me a bit more detail and I would like to have the option of having my questions (remember new-guy) answered by you with the help of what is in the FATHERS letter. God Bless Jensen PS. The "Job syndrome" is what I go through a lot :) |

222 | name fullfilled bible prophecies. | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18462
It really is a definition of terms and I am glad that you noticed how terms have become interchangeable. It was not always this way. May I make an analogy (however imperfect)? Israel the land mass; like America the land mass Israel the nation; Like Abby Hoffmans "Woodstock Nation" - an idea, concept, or common belief systems. I have been "grafted" into the this nation of Israel. But I would never be considered an "Israeli" in the common use of the term. Hebrew; Like English to America, Spoken by most Americans but not always the first language. When someone from old Israel was out of the country, Greece or Rome for example, they were called Hebrews because of their language. Jew as a resident; Like a Floridian is to America; a specific part of the country. Remember that the kingdom was divided and part of it was called Judah and the other was called Israel. So you could be called a Jew if you lived in Judah but were from the tribe of Levite, for example. Jew as cosmopolitan; Like a "native-American" in America. Can live anywhere but may be known as "Indians" I am always careful to understand the context of these terms when speaking with other Christians. They have become so interchangeable that they have lost much of their original meaning. I do not know if the rest are impostors as your friend says. To be an impostor one must make a deception and mostly it is just a matter of term definition. I hope that my note does not muddle things further :) God Bless Jensen |

Please. I am sorry that you misunderstood what I meant. I should have been more clear. Men put the numbers to the verses. Men put numbers to begin what they considered a new chapter. But you must already know that some thoughts are carried over from one chapter to another. Having this number system makes it so much easier for all of us to be on the same page. The numbers of the chapters and/or verses are not the inspired word of the Father. At least I never thought they were. Neither are chapter titles. Nor any notes that are found in some translations. They were all added later. If you think that the Father put these two words in the same sentence, while not doing it in other sentences, to give this verse a special meaning or special importance? If so we may discuss that. Please believe that my intention was not to make a strong statement towards the Father. So are you thinking that the verse/chapter numbers are from the Father? I had not considered that before and I am really not sure of exactly when the numbers were added. But I am pretty certain that they were not part of the original manuscripts or the earliest manuscripts either. Puntuation, as we know it, did not exist at the time. Sorry for any misunderstanding. God Bless. Jensen :) |

Chapter numbers and Verse numbers were added much later and well after the original manuscripts were written. There was no intention by the original writers for these two words to be part of the same number since numbers for verses were not condidered. So there is no importance to the coincidence. 225 | How do we know the Bible is the truth? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18187
There are over 1200 Old Test. prophecies that have come true. None have been false. Thats a pretty good track record. Some are yet to be fullfilled. There is a lot of literature with all the specifics such as that which was mentioned "Evidence that demands a verdict" in any good book store.

227 | Christian Primer Terms? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18183
RE: first class in terminology. May I suggest the word "creation." You live in a land where all is a part of god. But, by definition, the Creator can not be part of His creation. And some of Him or His image is on the canvas. But He is not the canvas. (Gen 1:1) Jensen P.S. Thomas Jefferson reduced the Bible to what he believed to be essentials and was used by missionaries to the American indians, who were also Pantheists. Bless you in your work. |

228 | Possible Lockman Forum Improvements #2 | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18056
COMMENT................................... I have a possible Starting Block for trying some of these things you suggest and test for any resolve:) I have put "comment" as the starting line of a post followed by several of these........:) As a new(er) visitor I can skip comments if I am searching for something else in my study. He who posts shall know if the post is on focus or if it is a "comment". Comments are mostly social, for example; ie. apologies, clear statements, how's your sister. (Sorry I could not resist, but I'm growing) What do you think? The forum does not have to have a limited thread and friends can stay in touch. |

229 | Possible Lockman Forum Improvements #2 | Bible general Archive 1 | Jensen | 18057
It is a chat room in time delay mode. I am very new to this forum, and pretty new to Christianity as it is intended to be understood. I have spent a lot of forum time reading, what must be considered, personal notes, when I intended to search for an answer. I got caught up in it pretty quick myself and I apologize for not seeing the better use for this forum. Your limits on posting are intended to help people like myself. It is not confussion that reigns, it is the time wasting practices. The StudyBibleForum.com is for the layman and a limit of three(possibly wrong)ideas does not help. I enjoy reading the points of view. But as I scroll the thread I come across lots of wasted time so that your idea of staying focused would be a great help. There are lots of old friends at this site it seems and the StudyBibleForum.com is for them also. As it is stated by the Lockman Foundation "for teacher and scholar, it's an opportunity to freely share your knowledge." Perhaps someone could suggest to the Lockman Foundation to put a "chatroom" link together. That would permit "side issues" to be taken up and old friends can affirm scholarly pursuits. 230 | Did God give the Jews land forever? | Not Specified | Jensen | 17983
Is there a biblical imperative that dictates,or even permits, that the Jews of the Diaspora have a right to any specific land area of the Middle East? I recall hearing Hank Hanagraaf say on his radio show that there is a political case, but not a biblical case, to be made for possession. Yet, many Christians seem to "know" that the bible does indeed dictate Jewish possession.(But I really love Hank:) |

232 | was Gods intention to eat forbid. fruit | Gen 2:9 | Jensen | 17694
The way I understand it, God's intention was that we have a choice. And, of course, humans had the choice. We made it. He paid for it. We are saved:) We must have free choice to give love freely. And, yet, He loved us even more. If God "intended" us to eat from the tree then His Will be done. But that, I believe(?), eliminates free choice for us. So I guess it may seem circular in some respects maybe worth exploring in Scripture. God Bless :) |

234 | Can I trust this Pastor? | Hebrews | Jensen | 17343
May I end this discussion? Many of you have offered what seems to me to be good, sound advice. Most have offered it respectfully and all have offered it in love. What a truly diverse community I find myself in. My understanding thusfar, concerning the knowing of Scripture and His will, is best summed up by the account of the Pharisees(sp?) arguing with one another as to the coming of the Savior. They were the most knowledgable, and best educated of all the Jews (if I understand correctly.) They are represented by todays Pastors, Priests, Bishops, Forum contributors, and teachers in this way; That they would quote lots and lots of Scripture to each other saying, essentially, what they wanted to be true (that this Jesus could not, in no way be the Messiah according to the Scriptures) just as those today quote lots and lots of Scripture to make the case for what they want to be the truth. But, of course, He was and He proved it by His resurection and most of those best versed missed it. And it continues to be shown to be true by the fact of the many lives that were/are changed (including my own.):) And today many of these fallible men have caused us to become disunited. I offer this witness; the multitude of denominations (cults?) that can not agree on a simple method of Baptism - what is the correct method, the correct wording, is it even necessary - when in my limited understanding if I depend on anything other than His saving Grace I have missed the Messiah completly. I am saved by what He said (Grace) And what He said ONLY. I believe the Bible, and the Bible ONLY. I recognize that, as a new creation, I will change and have indeed changed in small yet perceptible ways that were not of my own making. And that this change is not and will not be brought about by the pressure of men but, rather, the "pressure" of the Holy Spirit which is in me. I have a desire to "join" a local church but it is to Praise God that I join and not praise the many words of the best educated among us. If a preacher insists on possessing a sure fire knowledge of a "debateable" area, such as the author of Hebrews, how can I trust him for advice based on Scripture. I am not lazy and would always seek to prove the lesson of Scripture on my own. But it would be a lot easier to facilitate my Christian growth if the preacher would just say something like "It is not agreed upon universaly but..." As you might have noticed, I still have a bit of that cynic in me :) yet I know that this too has limited days. May God Bless All of You, Jensen |

This pastor has a non-denominational church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It is small but growing since they are building a larger facility. Is it really important to you? If it is and you can explain why it is I would be reluctant, but still happy, to tell you more. God Bless, Jensen
236 | When may a church compromise the Bible? | Hebrews | Jensen | 17104
Thank you for providing parts of the article that gives us ways to locate a new church. You have given me much to consider. Does your own church that you attend always, that is always, do as Jesus told us to do or does it make some compromises? Where may a church compromise and under what circumstances? I know that you are very busy but you seem to post many notes. Please, I do not want you to go to any great trouble but if you could recommend a book rather than a web site I would be forever in your debt. God Bless, Jensen |

237 | Can I trust this Pastor? | Hebrews | Jensen | 17102
I thought your first answer to my concern was right on target. You saw through all of my excuses and laid it at my door; Can I trust anyone? Well, the answer is no. But now you want me to try to find a church (anyway?)that I can trust. But how? There was one other thing about this church that I thought was curious (not following what Jesus said to do)but I now know that, apparently, other churches have the same practice. I can only believe what is in the Bible. I am not a scholar as so many on this Forum are. I can not quote verses to make my points because there seems to be an offsetting verse for everything and anything I might say. I may just sound stupid. It really is a matter of trust. That is why I believe your first answer was so important to me. There is no way that I could question a pastor on anything in the Bible and there is no way to place trust in any pastor who claims to know all the answers when in fact many pastors disagree on simple points. Or so it seems from reading "debates" on this Forum. There is one on this Forum who seems very knowledgeable and even responded to my question on this issue. When I wanted to consider him/her more seriously I pulled up other very recent debates that he/she was in and found that he/she was so inconsistant that I thought "these people just want to use many words to say, essentially, nothing." Again, your answer was perfect for the problem I have. I must first learn to trust (trust again)people before I will consider any lesson they may wish to teach that is based on a verse. They change like the wind. They just want to impress others, like the original pastor that was my concern. Please, keep me in prayer but know that it was you who nailed the problem. Additionally, I know that many, many Christians had no church to attend when this country was expanding west. Just home Bible studies. And that is where I am at and where I am going to stay. I do not need people making things up. Or I must first equip myself to protect my family from know it alls who may know nothing at all. I thank you again, and all those who offered their views. God Bless, Jensen. |

238 | Can I trust this Pastor? | Hebrews | Jensen | 16916
I have been misled many times in my life. You are right to suspect that I do not trust anyone. I was molested as a child by a "God fearing" minister and that still lingers (I'm 54)but I know that I should not reject God because of one incident in my childhood. I will never again reject God. If the Pastor in question is not comfortable for me, I doubt I will ever find one who is. I think I'll just stay home and read the Bible:) Thanks all for your comments. Love ya
239 | Can I trust this Pastor? | Not Specified | Jensen | 16823
I am searching for a local church because I am new to Christianity and this Forum was suggested by a friend.I listened to a pastor recently who insisted in his speech that Hebrews was written by Paul. He offered a lot of evidence. But I am not equiped to know if the evidence is factual. My Bible notes that the author is not known. I have searched the Forum and found some interesting comments. I have discovered that the author could have been any number of people. So, my question is this-should I trust a pastor who has insisted that Paul wrote Hebrews or should I continue my search for a church?
