Greg: I did not intend to belittle your interest in the cross. I agree that that the details and trival points are interesting. I am not "mad and crinkling my nose" at your discussion. Peace in his name Robert Nicholson |

162 | Are gays/lesbians bound for hell? | Rom 5:8 | Robert Nicholson | 41254
Dear Marquita: I cannot judge you. However, if God sees same-sex relationships as an abomination than we can not look for his blessing if we continue in sin. If we look at sin as sin, we would not expect a thief to keep on stealing after he is saved. If he tryed to live a double life of crime and for God it would not work. I pray that you put the matter before God and allow him to speak to you through his word. Robert |

I believe it is the one who suffered on the cross that we should focus on. Read Psalm 22 which provides graphic detail of death by crucifixtion. It helps us in a measure to understand what our saviour indured at the hands of sinful man and at the hands of a holy God as Christ was made sin for us. In Psalm 22:14 "I am poured out like water and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is melted like wax in the midst of my bowels. My strength is dried up like a postsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; thou hast brought me into the dust of death" Psalm 22:14-15 In v. 16 we read "...they pierced my hands and my feet" Yet when man had done his worst, the scene was clothed in darkness from the sixth to the nineth hour. It was during this time as the Lord Jesus bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that he cried that desolate cry as described in V1 "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" He was forsaken that we might not be forsaken for all eternity. God bless Robert |

Amen brother Moran: I love the words of Hebrews 10:7 "Then said I (Christ) Lo, I come in the (volume of the book that is written of me) to do thy will O God" Amazing grace that the eternal son of the eternal God was willing to come down to where we were and to pay such a price that we might be forgiven and have a personal relationship with him forever. God bless you brother Robert |

165 | please explain this verse for me | Luke 23:43 | Robert Nicholson | 40537
Roberhart: Please consider the following The psalmist writes concerning the Lord Jesus: "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." When Jesus died his body was buried in the new tomb of Joseph of Arimitha and his soul went to hell or better rendered "hades" Hades was the place of departed spirits and consisted of a compartment of comfort and a compartment in which was torment. Up until the time of Christ those who died in faith went to paradise located in hades which is sometimes referred to as Abraham's bosum. Read Luke 16: 19-31 However, we find the triumph of the resurrection of Christ "Wherefore he saith, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive (or lead a multitude of captives) and gave gifts to men. Now that he ascended, what ist but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all heavens, that he might fill all things" ( Eph. 4:8-10) It is suggested that when the Lord Jesus ascended he trimphantly emptied the comfort side of paridise transferring those who had died in faith into the third heaven the abode of God which you have point out. In other words Jesus was the last man to descend into paradise and after his resurrection he ascended to the right hand of his father above. Those believers who have died since the cross "are absent from the body and present with the Lord" Praise his name. |

166 | What about those who have never heard? | Rom 1:16 | Robert Nicholson | 39521
Dear brother John I was not suggesting that the great multitude was Israel or the Church. But rather a great mulitude from every nation which God by his grace has saved. I believe the gospel of the kingdom will be as relevant as today and their will be those who will trust Christ for salvation. I agree that no one will have eternal life except through Christ. I think that those people in Rev. 7 are people who have trusted Christ for salvation. Our verse summarizes it well. In his care Robert |

167 | Having a Relationship with God | Deut 11:1 | Robert Nicholson | 39202
Dear brother Thank you for your response: The Lord Jesus said, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matt. 11: 29-30 I am not sure of where you are coming from. However, I disagree with the idea that in order to be a good Christian I must obey the law of Moses. What I was trying to say in my last post regarding "his commandments exceeding the ten Commandments was that as those who belong to him, he wants our life, our all. My relationship to Christ should not be evaluated by my obedience to the law, but rather my obedience to him. Peace in his name Robert |

168 | Is Time a Dressing Room for Eternity? | Heb 9:27 | Robert Nicholson | 39012
Heistthe1 Thank you for the references. We were born dead in sin and yet God by his grace has offered us eternal life as a free gift through our Lord Jesus Christ. The tragedy, is that there are many who are dead in sin and will die physically without Christ. "Behold now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation"(2 Cor. 6:2) God bless his word Robert |

169 | Having a Relationship with God | Deut 11:1 | Robert Nicholson | 38919
Dear brother: I agree that we are freed from the curse of the Law through Christ. Our relationship to God is now motivated out of love rather than out of duty. Do you not think that his commandments exceed what we know as "The Ten Commandments"? However, if we were to teach legalistically that a Christian must obey the commandments are we not bringing them under law again? According to Galations we connected with the covenant of promise Gal. 4:28 In fact, was this not the problem with the Galations in that in reverting back to the law they were losing the freedom which they had in Christ. What is this freedom? Does it mean we can simply live as we like? Never! In Gal. 5:1 we are exhorted to "stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made you free, and be not entangled with the yoke of bondage" Paul makes it clear that we cannot abuse our liberty in Christ "For brethren you have been called into liberty; only use not liberty for an occassion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word even this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" Gal.5:13-14 What is the key to fulfilling this desire? "this I say then, Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh" Gal.5:16 He continues in verse 18 "But if ye be led of the Spirit ye are not under the law" As those who have been indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God, is not our relationship with God intimate, in that he speaks to us through his word by his spirit and we as those redeemed by his blood have personal access to God through Christ. In other words this relationship is two way. Brother, do you not think that there were things under the ceromonial law which do not apply to those who are under grace? Just a few thoughts Robert |

170 | Does Bible support capital punishment? | Bible general Archive 1 | Robert Nicholson | 38912
Hi Pup Part Two Capital Punishment I have observed 2 parodoxes: a) The Christians who fight against the killing of an unborn child and rightly so, and yet on the other hand champion the execution of a person convicted of murder. b) Christians who profess to love all souls and desire to see them saved are quick to push for Capital punishment on those who are unsaved and convicted of murder. OTHER OBSERVATIONS Why do some Christians appear so bloodthirsty in this regard, would this be the attitude of Christ if he were on the earth today? Would those Christians who feel so strongly about Capital punishment have a clear conscience in pulling the switch and sending an unsaved human into eternity? If we support Capital Punishment politically, are we not guilty by approval? Other Considerations: a) Many convicted murderers in the past few years, since DNA has been used in such crimes in both the USA and Canada have been found innocent of 1st degree murder. If we had executed them, we would have been guilty of sending an innocent person into eternity. In the case of murders who are guilty and are in prison, God in his grace has dealt with some, they have repented of their sin and are saved. Not saved from their sentence, but from hell. However, if we execute them before they have an opportunity to be saved, they are doomed forever. I will stop for now. I know my view my cause ripples, however, I think Christians should always think of the big picture before lining up as sheep behind the status quo. I have been labelled as a liberal by some brethren, however, my personal feeling is I would rather err on the side of Grace and Love. Some would say, "how would you feel if it were your loved one who has been brutely murdered? I don't know, however, I would hope that by his grace I could follow the example of my Saviour. We cannot be neutral on a moral issue such as this. In Christ Robert |

171 | Does Bible support capital punishment? | Bible general Archive 1 | Robert Nicholson | 38910
Hi Pup: I have struggled with the same question for many years. The references I am going to cite, I know that you are aware of them. I also think that we who profess to know the value of a single soul should think very carefully before we would suggest sending that soul into eternity unsaved. Genesis 4: 9-15 We have the first murder. Cain kills Abel. Cain was not put to death, but rather he was cursed from the earth and became a fugitive and a vagabond. In Genesis 9 :6 after the flood the lord says "Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed...". This verse seems very clear and on the side of Capital punishment. In Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill. We must remember that under the law Capital punishment was the judgement for many sins. However, in Numbers 35:6 the Lord appoints 6 cities of refuge for the manslayer. and in verse 11. provides the rules for the person who kills someone unawares. Which today we would refer to as second degree murder and manslaughter. In 2 Samuel 11 we read of King Davids great sin. he lusted after another man's wife and committed adultry with her. She became pregnant by King David. David in trying to cover his sin conspired with Joab to send Uriah into the forefront of the battle and to not protect him and Davids instructions in V15 "retire ye from him, that he may be smitten and die." As we know Uriah was killed. Today in some states David would get the death penalty. Instead, David stole Uriah's wife and displeased the Lord. Nevertheless, he did not receive capital punishment as stated in Genesis 9. The examples I have looked at in the old testament show God,s law regarding murder in Gen.9 However, in each example there is punishment with grace. WHAT SHOULD THE ATTITUDE OF THE CHRISTIAN BE REGARDING CAPITAL PUNISHMENT? In Romans 12:19 which refers back to Deut. 32:35 "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written Vengence is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. The Lord Jesus in Luke 23:34 could say "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." Stephen in Acts 7:60 as he is being stoned to death could pray in a loud voice" Lord, lay not his sin to their charge." Others as referred to in Hebrews 11:38 "of whom the world was not worthy" were tortured and killed for the testimony of the Gospel. When we read these accounts, many of these early Christians prayed for their killers salvation and forgiveness. In Matthew 5:38 The Lord Jesus said "Ye have heard it said an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth; BUT I SAY UNTO YOU, that ye resist not evil; but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." I realize the Lord is not talking about murder here, however the first part of this verse is misused many times to support the idea of Capital punishment. The scriptures appear to differentiate between 2nd degree murder and manslaughter and 1st degree murder. Part Two to follow Peace Robert |

172 | God is a spirit? Animals have spirits? | Bible general Archive 1 | Robert Nicholson | 38909
After the flood there was a change made by God between man and animal. He told Noah "the fear of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth on the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things" Gen 9:2-3 V.4 prohibits cannibelism. "flesh with the life thereof" this refers to humans who are living souls. If we choose to not eat meat which God has provided, that is our personal choice. However, eating meat from animals is not prohibited by the Bible. Peace |

173 | Don't understand Genesis 6:1-4 | Gen 4:26 | Robert Nicholson | 37922
Greetings Misch. I agree that gaints could be heros. I am going to paste a commentary by Jamison, Fausset, and Brown: . "the sons of God saw the daughters of men--By the former is meant the family of Seth, who were professedly religious; by the latter, the descendants of apostate Cain. Mixed marriages between parties of opposite principles and practice were necessarily sources of extensive corruption. The women, religious themselves, would as wives and mothers exert an influence fatal to the existence of religion in their household, and consequently the people of that later age sank to the lowest depravity. 4. giants--The term in Hebrew implies not so much the idea of great stature as of reckless ferocity, impious and daring characters, who spread devastation and carnage far and wide." I have noticed that the gaints of scripture are never referred to in a positive way. |

174 | Some will depart from the faith | 1 Tim 4:1 | Robert Nicholson | 37444
Dear brother: You have rightly pointed out that we are kept and we are to keep ourselves in the love of God. I tend to make a difference between eternal security and discipleship. When we trust Christ we receive eternal life John 3:16 As those indwelt by his Spirit "we hear his voice" John 10 and as sheep of his pasture we follow him. We know however, that following Jesus is not some passive exercise in which we wait for the good Shepherd to guide our every move. In our relationship we still have free will and it is through our obedience that we bring glory to his name. Nevertheless, we can become like Peter and warm ourselves at the world's fires and even deny our saviour because of the fear of man. I believe, however, like Peter of old, the person who is truly born again will have a conscience and will not be happy until they repent and confess their sin to God. Sin in a believer's life will break communion with God or cause one to walk afar off. Just a few thoughts In Christ Robert |

175 | Is Salvation only through Jesus Christ? | Acts 4:12 | Robert Nicholson | 37327
Greetings brother Johnny: I will try to answer your questions as seen from God's Word. Your question "1. If you can answers my question directly, if the Isralites will go to hell because they dont believed in Jesus Christ?" The short answer is "Yes" because it is only through faith in the work of Christ that man can be justified. Paul deals with this topic in when writing to the Galations. "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ that we might be justified by the faith of Christ and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified"Gal. 2:16 Your question "2. What happened to the promises of God to abraham "everlasting" ? are those promises broken?" My first question would be: What were these promises? God's plan was not clear to Abraham and yet "Abraham believed God and it was imputed to him for righteousness" Gal 3:6 Paul makes it clear that those who "are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham." Gal.3:7 Johnny, Remember that God promised him that his seed would be a) as the stars of heaven b) the sand of the sea and c) the dust of the earth Abraham was told "in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed" His blessing is not only for those who are born Jews, but reaches out to all who come to Christ by faith. The covenant to Abraham was one of faith. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ. And if ye be Christ's, then are you Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise. (Gal 3:28-29) The blessing promised to Abraham is through Christ. Christ is the fulfilment of that promise. God has not gone back on his promises or broken his promises to Abraham. The apparent failure to Israel is because of their unbelief. "Brethren, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant (willingly) of God's righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law and righteousness to every one that believeth" Romans 10:1-4 Dear brother, God has blessed his people abundantly, they were given the prophecies which spoke of the coming Christ to earth, he came to his own people first, his disciples were taken from his own people, he died upon the cross according to the prophecies written of him, he was buried, he arose again the third day and after his resurrection some of the old testament saints arose and appeared to many. It was from this backdrop that Peter preaches first to his own nation "Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved" Acts 4:12 The message is the same today, to all people of all nations, that there is only one way to enter into the promises of Abraham, and that is by faith in the work of Christ. If we refuse to accept this truth, then we will miss the blessing. Peace in his name Robert |

176 | Some will depart from the faith | 1 Tim 4:1 | Robert Nicholson | 37276
Dear brother: Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I realize on this forum that we are not to try and change a persons beliefs. However, Your quote "l for those like myself who believe Scripture states that one can depart totally from the faith he/she previously held. " I understand your differentiation between "falling" and "falling away". I do not believe that a true believer can fall away since "Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." (1Peter 3:5) This salvation is in the present and continuous tense. I believe that all "newborns" into the kingdom of God are indwelt or sealed by the Holy Spirit and that none are born sickly. I agree that as individuals we can become sickly due to our resistance to be obedient to God and that "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth" (Hebrews 12:6) This is my opinion: I think that by believing that I can be lost, robs me of the security that I put in Christ in the first place upon believing. I have read many articles on Heb.6:4-6 and I believe that this reference is not an article in support of saved and fallen away. I will not enlarge on this at the moment. God bless you dear brother in your study of his word. Peace in our Saviour's name Robert |

177 | Is Salvation only through Jesus Christ? | Acts 4:12 | Robert Nicholson | 37169
Brother Johnny: Paul in writing to the Romans "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth: to the Jew first and also the the Greek. Jesus Christ is the fulfilment of God's promises to his people. Upon Calvary's cross he died for the sins of the whole world. The Jews were the first to hear the wonderful message of the Gospel of Christ through Peter in Acts 2:32 Acts 3: 12-26, Acts. 45-12. Peter made it clear that through faith in the atoning death and resurrection of Christ is the only ground upon which they can be accepted. Paul speaks regarding Jews and Gentiles "What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise; for we have proved both Jew and Gentiles, that they are all under sin. (Romans 3:9) After the cross the whole world is responsible to God in how they react to the strivings of the Spirit of God and the gospel of Christ. It does not matter what nation or creed they belong to. "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" Rom. 3.23 God's promise to Abraham takes in all people. "I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee and I will curse them that curseth thee: and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed" Abraham means "father of many nations" It is through the seed of Abraham that our Saviour came and provided salvation to all. Johnny: We know that due to unbelief God has set Israel aside nationally. By doing so he has turned to all nations with the Gospel. We also know that the day is coming when God will turn again to Israel nationally. Does this excuse individuals from being lost because of rejecting Christ. Many people as individual from the nation of Israel have been saved through Christ, starting with the apostles and the early church. Even today, Jewish people are accepting Christ as their saviour. If they make the choice to blind their minds to the claims of Christ by adhering to a religious system which ended at Calvary, then it is only God who can enlighten them to the truth which is found in Christ. In our Saviour'name Robert |

178 | A Study on the HOLY SPIRIT | 2 Cor 1:22 | Robert Nicholson | 37164
Dear Brother Makarios: What a concise and excellent overview of God the Spirit. Quote: All true believers in Christ are indwelt by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19) and the Spirit is a gift (Rom. 5:5). Believers will never lose the 'indwelling' of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16), and absence of the Spirit is a proof of being unsaved (Romans 8:9). The Holy Spirit baptizes us into the body of Christ! (1 Cor. 12:13, Eph. 4:5, Rom. 6:1-10) The above true are so important of those "born from above" (John 3:3,5,7) The Holy Spirit is cannot be received in parts(John3:34) since is a person who takes up residence in the believer permanently. More importantly, it is the Holy Spirit who baptises each believer into the church which is his body (1 Cor. 12:13) A permanent relationship which is eternal. The Indwelling Holy Spirit is our intercessor ( Romans 8:26-27) and is the one who enables us to overcome the attacks of satan(1John 4:4) God bless you in your ongoing study brother Robert |

179 | Can non-Christians be in praise band? | Bible general Archive 1 | Robert Nicholson | 36918
Brother Zach: I have a different perspective on worship. We know that at the cross the rules of worship changed in Christ. He has given individual believers access into his holy presence through his own precious blood. In John 4:23 Jesus explained to a woman that a geographic location has nothing to do with worship. "But the hour is coming and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth; for the father seeketh such to worship him" When a group of christians come to gather to worship, should not the Holy Spirit be the one who leads us into thoughts of Christ and of God which we can present to God through our great high priest our Lord Jesus Christ. I don't know much about worship bands, but I don not think an unbliever can worship in Spirit and truth. Just a few thoughts Robert |

180 | Is Salvation only through Jesus Christ? | Acts 4:12 | Robert Nicholson | 36910
Brother Johnny: Throughout the Old Testament God required certain things of his people. The promise in Gen.3:15 that the seed of the woman once bruise the serpents head is a type of the redeemer who would come and nullify the power of Satan. Every sacrifice under the law spoke of the coming one. The did not know his name but they saw the promise from afar off. As they looked forward to the cross, they rested on God's promises by faith and because of their faith in him, God has imputed to them righteousness. In Hebrews 11 we read of the old testament saints who by faith were imputed righteousness, beginning with Abel. I love the words which God tells us about them: These died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off and were pursuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth" (Heb. 11:13) We could say that prophets of old did not know him by name, they however, had faith in God that he would eventually send the saviour into the world. We must remember that the fulfilment of all of Gods promises in redemption are found in Jesus Christ. His sin atoning sacrifice put away sin once and for all, he satisfied the Holy claims of God and because of Christ God can abundantly pardon all who come to him by faith. Thus we can say that those who died in faith before the cross and those who trust Christ after the cross; are all saved by his precious blood. What about those who have never heard in our World? As you have mentioned God has given all men a witness of himself. As you have quoted from Romans we find that the law of right and wrong are written on the tables of our hearts. We have a conscience even if we do not know God. It is God's desire that his people "would go into all the world and preach the gospel" However, we know that in our day there are many whom have not heard. We know that after Christ comes for his church, that upon this earth after this event that a number of Israel will be saved along with a great multitude from every kindred tribe and nation. This is not a second chance for those who reject him now. It is an opportunity for those who have never heard. Johnny, I believe the only people who will go to hell will be those who have chosen to go there. They have made it abundantly clear that they want nothing to do with Jesus during their lives and continue to reject him until they die, they have no hope. They turned against the hope. I hope some of this helps brother Robert |
