101 | love...as himself (if no self-love?) | Eph 5:33 | Robert Nicholson | 65481
Rabbi Mark: We read "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Heb. 12.2) I do not see this as a selfish, but the Lord Jesus saw the big picture, he knew that his sacrifice and suffering were worth it all, however, his sacrifice was not for himself, but for others and has resulted in their joy now and for eternity. In Phil. 2:6 about Christ Jesus "who being in the form of God, thought it not (a thing to be grasped at) to be equal with God" "Who being" refers to his eternal existance with God and "being in the form of God" his equality in the Godhead. "thought it no a thing to be grasped at" Jesus did not grasp for anything, he had and has all the things you have pointed out before he came to earth, yet he as it were set them aside. In Phil as we carry on we find "he humbled himself" we then read of his incarnation, his servant character, his total obedience "unto death even the death of the cross. In John 1 we find that he the Eternal Word is God manifest in the flesh, that he is the creator of all things and he is the Light of the world. In Heb. 1:3 he is shown as the one who "upholds all things by the word of his power" the one who purged our sins and the one who sits "on the right hand of the Majesty on high"V.3 The point I am trying to make is that Jesus Christ did not have to suffer on the cross for these things, because he already had them. His sacrifice on the cross was an act of grace motivated by love when it made it possible for those who were separated from him by sin, to be brought near by his precious blood. Peace in his name Robert |

Brother Ray: Thank you for your thoughtful and most excellent response. I believe the comparsion which you have given most certainly expands on the interpretation of the verse. It is amazing how that God has given us such truth through the words of ancient people who seemed to have far more insight than what we (I) sometimes give them credit for. Ray I do appreciate the importance of care taken in capitalization, even if at times I have difficulty trying to grasp the meaning. Thanks again In Christ Robert |

djconklin: "for lo the winter is past, and the rain is over and gone;" Song of Solomon 2:11 As I sit in Canada waiting for winter these words bring a sense of hope. I listen not for turtle doves, but for the frogs etc. which in the springtime give me hope that he summer is coming. What beautiful language we find in this chapeter " My beloved is mine and I am his..." and more powerful "Until the day break and the shadows flee away..." As one who belongs to Christ I rejoice that a day will come when shadows will be no longer and faith will give way to sight! What will it be to see our Savior face to face? Robert |

107 | Looking for the Saviour from Heaven! | Job 19:25 | Robert Nicholson | 64842
Dear fellow believers: I have been enjoying the confident hope of Job found in chp 19:25-27 " I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh I shall see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another..." It is my understanding that Job lived before the giving of the law and could be contemporary with Abraham. I marvel at the insight which he had regarding death and bodily resurrection. I love the words "mine eyes shall behold and not another". People who lived in Job's day did not have the privilege of knowing their redeemer as we today. We look backward by faith to that precious one who lived, who gave his life on our behalf, was buried and rose again on the third day. After his resurrection we find that his body bore the wounds of Calvary. I love the promise given as 40 days hence he was taken up from the mount of olives into heaven "this same Jesus which was taken up from you into heaven, shall come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven. On another thread the question was asked will we recongnize each other in heaven? I don't know. I know one thing for sure that on the day that Jesus comes, faith will give way to sight and we will see him as he is. What joy it will be to join the throng of the redeemed and sing a new song to him who is worthy! Like Job we will behold him in all his glory and splendor. Human words fail to grasp "what it will be to dwell above, and with the Lord of Glory reign" "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him" (1Cor. 2:9 I praise his precious name! 109 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Robert Nicholson | 64504
Good morning Estelle: I agree with you that when we allow things in our lives which take us away from God we become miserable and want to make it right. I believe this is the normal Christian life. We experience the mountains and the valleys, but know that Christ is with us all the way. I would suggest however, in the case of a person who wilfully and habitually turns from Christ, that if they are truly his that he will chasten them. His chastening is preventative rather than punitive. As in the case of those in 1 Cor. 11 whom Paul speaks about, it would appear that they died. Their deaths were not punitive but preventative in that the Lord could not allow them to continue in wilful disobedience. I believe this is the thought that James is teaching in James 5:19-20. Your brother in Christ Robert |

FTimA: "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" 1 John 1:7 When a lost sinner rests their all or puts their trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross their sins are forgiven and they are cleared of all guilt before God. Rom. 5:1 All our sins are forgiven, not in part, but the whole and God as he looks on the big picture sees us "in Christ in the heavenlies" Eph. 1:3 From a practical view Christians cannot live a perfect life "if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us" 1 John 1:8 1 John is written to children in the family of God and chp 1 is speaking of fellowship with God. He has given us his Spirit to make us overcomers 1 John 4:4. As in any family relationship if a child disobeys his father it can result in a loss of communication or fellowship until the problem is resolved. Likewise, when a child of God sins, it can mar fellowship with the father, but we are reminded that "if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins...: 1 John1:9 and in 1 John 2:1-2 we are reminded that "if any sin we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous. You are correct in your last statement. "Sin separates us from God..." When God by his grace saved us our sins were forgiven and we are cleared of all guilt because Christ is our substitute and was made sin for us. All my sins were future when Christ died and he has paid the price in full. "We are bought with a price and we are not our own" and as such it should be our desire to live a life that would glorify him. Robert |

111 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Robert Nicholson | 64457
FTimA: The book of James is written to Christians. You have referred to James 5:19-20 regarding the erring brother. "Brethren if any of you do err(wander) from the truth, and one convert him (or turn him back) Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins" The example given by James is a brother who has received the truth, but has gone astray. When a saint goes astray and gets away from the Lord, those which are spiritual have a responsiblity to try and restore such a person back to the truth and to God. Sin in a Christian's life does not put them outside the family of God, but clouds our daily fellowship with God and with fellow believers. When a person is restored they are prevented from carrying on sinning and away from God, thus a multitude of sins are prevented from happening at all. To save their soul from death does not refer to eternal death which the unbeliever will suffer, but rather physical death which can be a result of persistent disobedience and dishonor to the testimony of Christ. The Lord loves us too much to allow us to carry on without discipline. we read "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth." Heb. 12:6 Examples of this are seen in Acts 5:5-10 regarding Ananius and Sapphira who lied to to God and thought they could deceive him. The second example is found in 1 Cor. 11: 27-30 regarding those who partaking of the Lord's supper unworthly and Paul writes "For this cause many are weak and sickly among you and manny sleep.(are dead) It is a serious business to purposely dishonor the Lord and rather than allow us to carry on in disobedience he may see fit to take us home to heaven. In 2 Peter 3: 17,18 This is also written to "beloved" saints who are born again. First, he gives them a word of warning v. 17 and in V. 18 an exhortation. Paul wants them to stay focussed on Christ and not to be turned aside by the false teachers of the day which we cover in Chapter 2. The Christian is not exempt from the three fold enemy the world, the flesh, and the devil. None of the three can ever take from us the life which is eternally ours in Christ, but they can spoil our life for God on this earth. Stedfastness as in V.19 is there consistent and faithful life. The scriptures make it clear that those who are saved should never become complacent in their lives. we are warned to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" 1 Peter 5:8. Our motive in faithfulness to Christ is not to preserve the security we have in him, but rather to bring glory and honor to him in our lives. Peace in his name Robert |

112 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Robert Nicholson | 64142
Dear Friends The words of our Lord Jesus Christ in Matt. 7 teach us some basic and important trues. Our Savior presents a series of contrasts: a) Two ways b) Two trees c)Two professions d) Two foundations In this chapter we find that the people of this world are divided into two groups, those who belong to Christ and those who don't. In v. 13-14 The Lord Jesus talks about the narrow gate and the narrow way which leadeth unto life in contrast to the wide gate and the broadway which leads to destruction. We are born on the broadway and to stay on that path all we have to do is keep travelling and ignore the call of God by his Spirit. The narrow way is a way which is entered by those who rest their all upon the finished work of Christ on the cross, they have entered by the door which is Christ John 10:9 and are travelling the only way to heaven which is through Christ alone. In verses 15-20 Jesus speaks about fruit in the life of professing believers and he warns them to "beware of false prophets. A good tree does not give evil fruit nor can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. In other words if I profess to know Christ as my Saviour and do not show the fruit of the Spirit in my life in some measure, than it would appear that I am not in Christ at all. I may simply have an empty profession which will not stand in the test of eternity. Jesus carries this thought into v. 21-24 as he compares two professions. There are those who profess to do things in his name, even great things and yet they will hear these words "depart from me I never knew you. "I never knew you" means that these people never knew Christ as their savior. They may have lived a religious life, but missed the most important person of all, the Lord Jesus Christ. These words cause us to search the foundation of our salvation; is it founded on Christ? In v. 24-27 The Lord Jesus speaks about two foundations. First, we have the house build on the rock and when the rains, floods and winds, came it stood firm because it was founded on the solid rock. In contrast, we have the house built on sand. Outwardly it looked as nice as the house on the rock with one fatal difference, its foundation was on the sand. When the rain, the floods and the winds came it fell because it was founded only on sand. Jesus is the rock upon which the the believer builds the moment they trust in Christ and as such the winds, and rains which come upon them may shake them, but they stand on the rock. The sand would represent those who are not on the rock, they live a decent life, do good works, call themselves christian and yet they have never rested on the rock Christ Jesus for Salvation. I believe in this chapter the Lord Jesus is underlining the importance of reality, the importance of being on the narrow road, the importance of bring forth fruit in our lives, the importance of knowing Christ as savior and the absolute necessity for one to be all of these things they must be built and resting upon the rock Christ Jesus. On Christ Salvation rest secure The Rock of ages must endure, Nor can the faith be overthrown Which rests upon the living stone! Praise his name Robert |

brother telegram Thank you. I find on forums that many people sincerely believe that they have always been saved because as a child they were baptised and taught throughout their life the story of the gospel. It is very difficult humans in general to bow to God's word "that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" There are many people who are kind loving, sensitive and help others in many ways and yet it is difficult to accept that such works fall short of the glory of God. May such people feel the tug of the Spirit of God and be willing to bow to the claims of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rejoicing that Christ died for the ungodly which means me! Robert |

115 | What did Jesus mean in John 5:24? | John 5:24 | Robert Nicholson | 63603
Thank you brother Jay: I believe that we should remember that time, not necessarily the date, but a time when we were made new creatures in Christ. It stands to reason that if we are lost that there was a time when Jesus found us. I agree that the word "heareth" means to hear with understanding and the word "believe" is to totally rely upon or rest upon the finished work of Christ. What I like about this verse is the positive statement "shall not come into judgment, but is passed from death unto life" Praise his name Robert |

116 | A Man In Need. | John 3:1 | Robert Nicholson | 62830
Greetings brother Lourdes: Amen! "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up" John 3:14 "must be lifted up" It was imperative that the Lord Jesus be lifted up as the sin bearer upon the cross. There was no other choice! The serpent refers back to Gen. 3:14 and is a symbol of sin judged and the brass speaks of divine judgment. As you have mentioned this is a type of Christ bearing that awful load upon the cross. Think of the darkness and the cry of our redeemer "My God! My God! Why has thou forsaken me?" as God laid our sins upon him. Isaiah 53:5 Truly we can say "Man of sorrows what a name For the Son of God who came Ruined sinners to reclaim! Hallelujah! what a Saviour! Greetings brother Hank: Thank you for the welcome back. I do appreciate those on this forum who love the saviour, not from an intellectual point of view, but from a personal relationship with him. I find that no matter how often we quote John 3:16 in reflection I am always amazed that God loved and loves me and that he was willing to give his Son to the cross on my behalf. As I think of the "whosoever" I am reminded by the words of a song "the promise takes you in." I am presently floundering at Trinity due to loss of time due to heart problems. However, I look to the Lord knowing that he knows what is best for each one of us. Robert |

119 | Do you yet say that Jesus was just a man | John 9:24 | Robert Nicholson | 55143
The Man Christ Jesus Part 2 In Philippians 2 we consider his eternal existence and equality with his father and his lowly stoop with his incarnation. “Who being in the form of God thought it not robbery (or not a thing to be grasped at) to be equal with God: But he made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of man: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death even the death of the cross” (v5-8) God again by his Spirit is showing us that Christ was with God, equal and coeternal and that he set that glory aside and took the lowly stoop via the virgins womb and walked this scene in perfect harmony with his father, proving time and time again who he was and willing allowed his journey to lead to the cross where he gave his life for us. “he said I have the power to lay down my life and I have power to take it up again” On the cross he cried “Finished” the conquers cry, and he said “Father into thy hands I commend my Spirit” then he bowed his head and died. Even in his death we are made to realize this was no ordinary man, this was God manifest in the flesh. Paul writing to the Colossians “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Col.2:9) The important truth that Paul is teaching is that the Lord Jesus never ceased to be what he always was, by that which he became. When Jesus was on earth we read in Mark 2 how the Pharisees in their derision confirmed that Jesus is God. “Why doth this man speak blasphemies: Who can forgive sins but God. The spoke the truth, but did not know that it was God whom they were dealing with when Jesus to the paralyzed man “Son thy sins be forgiven thee” and than said “ that ye might know the Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins” v10 we find he healed the man. Time and time again Jesus refers to himself as the son of man which is equivalent to God in the flesh. Is it not wonderful that God shares with us his eternal counsel we read such prophetic words in Isaiah 6; 8 “the Lord saying whom shall I send and who will go for us? Then said I ; Here am I; send me” In Psalm 40:7 and in Hebrews 10:9 we read the words of the Lord Jesus “Lo I come in the volume of the book which is written of me, to do thy will O God.” For God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten (unique) Son , that whosoever, believeth on him , should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 May those who have trusted him always value him for who he is: God manifest in the flesh. Robert If we could only tell him as we know him! |

120 | Do you yet say that Jesus was just a man | John 9:24 | Robert Nicholson | 55140
Dear friends: The Man Christ Jesus Part 1 We live in a day in which there are many “reasonable facsimiles” of Christ proposed. Some would see him simply as a good man who set a good example for us to follow, others would suggest that he is the son of God who began his days at Bethlehem and others would suggest he never lived at all. Nevertheless, the scripture is clear, Jesus Christ is the Son of God and is God manifest in the flesh. The study of the Godhead is profoundly interesting and yet as we approach the infinite we find that our finite minds can hardly take it in. Who are we to question our creator? I believe we must avoid trying to bring the God of eternity to our level of understanding “since his ways are past finding out"? The unfathomable mystery to humans is that there is one God and yet we see him manifest as three persons in one. He does not work independently of himself, indeed it is with full harmony within the Godhead which God has revealed himself to humankind. Who was Jesus Christ? Was he the Son of God or was he God manifest in the Flesh? Both! We read that “God who in many parts and in many ways spake in times past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days hath spoken unto us (in) Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things by whom also he made the worlds(ages). Who (the Son) being in the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the majesty on high.” (Hebrews 1:1) The Son of God “being” perfect tense, was, is and always will be in the brightness of his glory. The Son of God who is the express image of his person. Jesus described this “He that hath seen me hath seen the father” (John 14:9) The Son of God who upholds all things by the word of his power. This would show that he is coeternal with the father. John speaks of Christ in this way “ In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made.” (John 1:1-4) God by his Spirit teaches us that Christ “is” that he always was and always will be. He was there in the beginning in creation, in fact he is the Creator. Amazing grace is that in obedience to his father, the Creator takes a lowly stoop into this world. “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory as the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth” (John 1:14) John was a person witness, friend and disciple to the Lord Jesus. He shows to us that Jesus was not simply the Son of God who began his life at Bethlehem, but this man Christ Jesus was God incarnate. Peter in 1 Peter 2 writes concerning the Lord Jesus “who did no sin neither was guile found in his mouth” V22 Paul writes to the Corinthians “for he hath made him to be sin for us, (he) who knew no sin: that we might be made the righteousness of God through him. Peter In 1 Peter 1:19 reminds us that we are redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” Without blemish shows us his perfection as he came into the world and without spot shows his sinless walk in his journey here below. The important message here is that the Son of God was truly a man and yet truly God. He did not make a choice not to sin, because he could not sin, that is the divine character of God.
