162 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | 1 Cor 1:1 | gracefull | 93519
Hello Journey_Me You quoted... Then I cam accross 1 Cor 14:34-35 [34]Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Look at 1 Corinthians 11:5 as a comparison. Paul states that women should not prophesy with their head uncovered, not that they should not prophesy UNLESS, as opposed to not prophesy at all. Where is prophesying done? In meetings... While this is not conclusive, it at least points out that women do have callings that allow them to speak in public meetings. Also, one cant' compare this to God calling homosexuality an abomination...While meny may respond very antagonistically to women in ministry due to doctrine, scripturally there is no comparison to ordaining someone practicing open sin and calling it good. God bless God bless |

164 | Does God think negative thoughts. | 1 Cor 2:16 | gracefull | 86223
Define 'negative thoughts'. Isaiah 55:6- 6 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD , and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. 8. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD . 9. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11. so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. God's will is to bless and prosper, and this requires discipline. Hebrews 12:5-7 5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; 6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If one considers discipline negative, then yes. If we recognize that Father's discipline is from a heart of perfect love...then no. God bless |

165 | Denominations is shameful? | 1 Cor 3:4 | gracefull | 92344
Joyce, I offshoots or splinters organizationally of the original church, but not the Catholic church. (1 Corinthians 3)People actually do often answer scriptural questions with the response, "I am a _____". Believers often accept their denominational doctrines over scripture. This is following men rather than God. One should never get 'locked in' to a denomination in such a way that they cease to hear the Holy Spirit because they choose their denomination over truth. Now having said that I must point out that all born again believers are in the 'body of Christ' which is the spiritual church. When we begin to mature and depend less and less on the teachings of men and depend more and more on the teaching of scripture by the Holy Spirit, we will see denominational barriers less and less and see the body as one more and more..and often this leads believers to seek out other groups which believe more in line with what they believe. As for your husband's protest..be cautious that you remain meek and submissive. Let the love of God RULE. Be sure this does not become an avenue for the devil to cause division in your home. There are worse things than being in a church you disagree with. I suggest you encourage your husband to keep the spiritual communication lines open in your home and also pray for your marriage to grow in unity of spirit. This is God's will for the marriage. I suggest Colossians chapter 1 as an excellent prayer for the husband (or a wife). God bless |

166 | Divorce Cult Member ? | 1 Cor 7:1 | gracefull | 87223
No..Scripture does say not to be unequaly yoked 2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? But scripture does not permit the breaking of a vow just because we realize we should not have made it. Better not to allow God to reveal Himself by His love through the believer to the unbelieving spouse. 1 Corinthians 7:13-15 13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. 15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. a cult member nor an unbeliever (one and the same really) cannot keep us from worshiping and serving our God. Worship is a relationship, not a religion. Indeed...true worship is to LOVE as He loved...as a servant. God bless |

167 | Stay marriaed at all costs? | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 87251
Hi Shelly, I have read some of the responses and must say that I am surprised at the number of believers who have all but said, 'Ignore God's word and do what you 'feel' is right'. Even the statement that God would not expect you to do thus and such, but no scriptural support was given for these opinions. Shame on you forum members! I am sure the scriptures have already been presented to you on this issue, so I would like to ask you to clarify another statement you made. Although you are applying it to the subject of divorce, I would like to ask you it this is your belief on other topics. You asked,"Is that God's plan for me? I have to suffer for the rest of my life, and possibly get killed because Of Religious LAWS?" My question is "Do you consider God's Word 'religious laws'?" If you would please...give your thoughts on the following verses. 2 Timothy 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. |

168 | Are you kidding? | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 87256
"So are you saying that she should have stayed with her abusive husband and took her punishment? Do you really think Jesus would have told her to shut up and take the abuse because you married him?" Let's get our emotions out of the way and look at God's own words....Jesus did voice the will of God in His ministry here and through the Apostles. God's Word does give specific instructions for dealing with our enemies and those that despitefully use us... Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; But He also give specific promises of protection for those that turn to Him for their defense. Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He gives specific promises that He hears and answers us when we ask in faith and according to His will. 1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: He also promises to speak to us and give us His wisdom and guidance. James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He warns us not to rely on the wisdom of men 1 Corinthians 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Our God through Jesus Christ has provided His best. When we choose to disobey, we miss His best. What would be His best in this type of situation? Delivering the abusive husband and bringing him to repentance, making both witnesses of His love and grace, or else moving him out of her life while she remain faithful to God's word by faith! Our God is a miracle working God, but we far too often look for our own solutions! God bless |

170 | marriage, divorce and remarriage 2nd. | 1 Cor 7:15 | gracefull | 91682
Hi Jackson, I have two observations for your comment, if you care to. 1st you said," Why do I think the "thou" is the divorced person, look at the rest of the vs, it talks about a virgin marrying. We all know that it's not a sin for a "First" time marriage" My question is that when you look at the last part of that vers it says that if you marry you will have difficulty in the flesh. My take on this concluding statement is that to 'remain unmarried' is to remain 'inactive'. While that could apply to a divorced man, it would more likely apply to a 'virgin male'. Which would take this thou back up to verse 7a 7 "Yet I wish that all men were (5) even as I myself am." Paul said this refering to the fact that he was a eunich. That would mean this verse (28) is simply saying marriage itself is not a sin. The reason this makes sense is that why would ANYONE question the marriage of a virgin as possibly being sin? 1 Corinthians 7:28 But if you do marry, you do not sin [in doing so], and if a virgin marries, she does not sin [in doing so]. Yet those who marry will have physical and earthly troubles, and I would like to spare you that. My second point is that the thou may actually be going back to verse 24 which states, "Brethren, each one is to remain with God in that condition in which he was called." To paraphrase a possibility...Each one should remain with God in the condition he is called, however, if one does marry, they have not sinned. God bless |

171 | communion: symbolic or something more? | 1 Cor 11:29 | gracefull | 85963
tproffitt_79, I believe the answer is found in John chapter 6. Many were offended at Jesus' saying because they could not see the 'spiritual' message but could only hear with carnal ears. John 6: 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? 62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. Notice in verse 57 Jesus uses His life as a comparison. Jesus said as the Fathe had sent Him and He 'lived' by His Father, so would live by Him. In John 15 Jesus teaches of abiding in the vine, this is the same principle. When we as believers begin to put our faith in anything but the literal blood of Jesus, we are placing our faith in sinking sand. Weak and beggerly elements, that have no spiritual power. 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 ( Complete Jewish Bible) Therefore, whoever eats the Lord's bread or drinks the Lord's cup in an unworthy manner will be guilty of desecrating the body and blood of the Lord! Listen with your spirit and not your head...and certainly not through 'religious ears'. A person who partakes of the communion with sin in their life (knowingly) is desecrating the Lords' body and blood spiritually. By doing this, a person lacks fear of God. The reason I say this is because they can repent and partake rightly, but choose not to. To partake of the bread is to be led by the Spirit, and to partake of the blood is to say I receive His grace through His blood and am clean. Not "will be clean" but "am clean". 1 Corinthians 11: 28 But a man must EXAMINE HIMSELF, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. (DO NOT PARTAKE UNWORTHILY..OR WITH SIN IN YOUR LIFE) 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number (3) sleep. "imparts on us the blessings of the holy spirit and the forgiveness of sins. they draw heavily from 1 Cor. 11:29 where Paul warns about taking communion unworthily." The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost and He is here today to first regenerate or rebirth our dead spirit, and then to abide IN US. He does not 'come' at communion. If you study the Holy Spirit (capitalized for the third person of the Godhead) you will find a lot of information that will correct this teaching. Secondly, the forgiveness of sins happens at the moment of true repentance, and according to these verses are to be done BEFORE taking communion which I believe is the message of verse 29. I pray something helped. God bless. |

172 | Praying in tongues? | 1 Cor 14:1 | gracefull | 76811
Hi Sarah, Yes indeed and this seems to be the pitfall of most discussions. Many can't recognize the difference and try to group both under gift and then state that 'all do not have the gift'. Tongues os a supernatural manifestaion of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer (who accepts by faith)in which the Holy Spirit prays for and through the believer. Paul said 'I pray with the Spirit and I pray with the understanding. I sing with the Spirit and I sing with the understanding also.'(available to all) But he also speaks of speaking in the congregation aloud, the GIFT, and having the GIFT of interpretation. This is the Holy Spirit speaking to the body for it's edification.(given at administered at the discretion fo the Holy Spirit) Does this help? God bless |

174 | Graceful do you understand Pro 4:5? | 1 Cor 15:3 | gracefull | 83097
Good morning imf, This does tend to be true..Proverbs addresses 'much speaking'quite often. I take the following scriptures very seriously and am very grateful for the Holy Spirit teaching me early that to cease to be humble and teachable is to cease to grow. 1 Corinthians 4:4-5 "4.My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 5.Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God." Although I do believe with my whole heart what I believe, it is not in me to be excessively critical of those who disagree (I am a human as they are and they as human as myself) especially when they confess the basis of our faith..Jesus Christ. As a dear sister in the Lord just said..and I quote "..in the integrity of my heart I want to know the truth." My friend, if you are reading this, my joy is full today because of you! God bless |

175 | Clarity - Jesus being sin and in Heaven | 2 Corinthians | gracefull | 83562
These are quoted from the King James version... Ephesians 4:9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? Matthew 12:38-40 38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. ACTS 2 25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 HE SEEING THIS BEFORE SPAKE OF THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST, THAT HIS SOUL WAS NOT LEFT IN HELL, NEITHER DID HIS FLESH SEE CORRUPTION. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. This prophesy of David was speaking of Jesus. God bless |

177 | surrender | 2 Cor 1:1 | gracefull | 90623
Hello Kahari, You have asked probably one of the most important questions a believer should ask. How do I become more like Christ daily... Let me begin by reminding you that you ARE a new creation in Christ Jesus. Your spirit is now reunited in relationship with God your Father through Jesus blood. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. But you have also realized that despite this great truth, you are daily not living like a NEW CREATURE, but still like the OLD. Romans 7:18-19 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my (9) flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. Suggested reading Romans 6-8 Romans 6:13 gives the 'exercise' to overcome sin in our life. I use the word exercise because it is just that, and must be done with diligence. At first it may seem like all you do is struggle against old habbits and thoughts, but just like exercise, eventually these things weaken and you become stronger. Romans 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. Our pastor gave a simple illustration of this just a few weeks ago. He moved to the left side of the pulpit and said that over here I was in sin, bound and doomed. God by His Spirit transported me supernaturally to His kingdom. Then after moving to the other side of the pulpit he pointed out that we now have a new mastor, a new Lord. This new Lord is here to give us direction, empower us, and discipline us. When the devil or your flesh yells at you, 'yield' to the right thing... The way to live day by day more like Jesus? Yield your members to righteousness. As His Word comes alive to you by the Holy Spirit, you will understand more and more what that looks like. Our carnal mind before renewal does not understand God's ways. But as the Holy Spirit opens our understanding revealing the heart of the Father more and more, we see how to yield. As we yield by faith, a marvelous thing happens...our heart changes. Forgiveness stops being a superficial act and becomes the forgiveness of the heart.Love goes from being just a selfish word to a selfless unconditional love of God. Suggested reading: Ephesians 1 Colossians 1 Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; Hope this helps. Any questions? God bless |

178 | No healing? why? | 2 Cor 1:4 | gracefull | 72963
If you review the various threads, I believe you will find, as I have found, the discussion usually melts down to this statement.. "While I believe God provided healing for every believer through redemption and His sovereignty protects that provision (which must be received by faith just like salvation), others believe God heals some and not others because He is sovereign." Sadly the discussion usually breaks down to us being accused of not believing God is sovereign. Nothing could be further from the truth. Be encouraged and continue in the word, and prayer. Does that make sense? God bless. |
