Hi, Jer... Lockman, our gracious host does not reveal their means of managing the Study Bible Forum. Presumably they have people monitoring posts, because some threads are suppressed or entries deleted. They may also revoke profiles that they deem are people that will not follow their guidelines -- we occasionally see such participants suddenly stop posting. Perhaps they have other mechanisms at their disposal. Given that you have contributed to threads that have been suppressed, it might be wise to review the Terms of Use. If your self-proclaimed "gift" is of divine origin, then it will include the ability to exercise self-control, show kindness, manifest respect, edifying others, etc. (Galatians 5:22-23). Fleshliness will be reflected in a character that is pugnacious, prideful, impatient, angry, uncooperative, rebellious, etc. (Galatians 5:19-21). Our Lord is gracious to enumerate these character traits, so that the tree can be identified by its fruit. Thus we are enabled to test ourselves as we are commanded to do (2 Corinthians 13:5; cf 1 John 4:1). In Him, Doc |

162 | Does that include opposition to God? | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 241781
Hi, Jer... Please do not ask leading questions, son. Reread the Terms of Use that you promised to abide by when you created your profile. On the other hand, granting you the benefit of the doubt with the assumption that you are asking a question because you actually need an answer: See Genesis 3:17; 1 Samuel 15:24; Mark 7:7-9; Acts 4:19; 5:29; Revelation 14:8-12. Also ask yourself the same question relative to the examples of Joseph, Daniel, Jeremiah, Nehemiah, etc. Those are all narratives, so understand them within the context of the didactic passages found in Paul's letter to the Romans (chapter 13) and Peter's first epistle (chapter 2). Scripture does not contradict Scripture. In Him, Doc |

163 | Where do threatening voices come from ? | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 241771
Hi, Tracy... To give you a Biblical answer, please consider: The Scriptures tell us to submit to human institutions (1 Peter 2:13). The Lord has established the state in order to maintain order in the world. Paul writes, "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God" (Romans 13:1). "Therefore," Paul continues (v2), "whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same (v3); for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it [the state] does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. (v4)" He concludes, "it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience' sake. (v5) For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing. (v6)." We are told that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Psalm 111:10). When we recognize all the mechanisms God has put into place in order to maintain His purposes, it is very wise for us to walk in them. For thus we will have a peaceable life (1 Thessalonians 4:11; cf 1 Timothy 2:2). This gives us the freedom to live fruitful lives for our Lord. In Him, Doc |

Hi, Comeup... Welcome to the forum! Although commonly taught by Mormons and Russelites, there is no scriptural basis to interpret the "third heaven" idiom as being the Garden of Eden, a different level of paradise, or whatever. One needs only look at common Greek usage of the phrase to see what Paul meant. After all, Paul was writing to Greeks. In Him, Doc |

165 | Heaven and Earth | Matt 18:18 | DocTrinsograce | 241737
Hi, Tracy... This phrase, first spoken to Peter (Matthew 16:19), now spoken to the twelve (Matthew 18:18), has to do with the church's ability to extend absolving forgiveness of God in salvation through the gospel. In Him, Doc |

Hi, desanlix... That is a good question. See the following passages: Acts 2:4-11, 2:41, 4:4, 5:15, 6:7, 10:46, 19:12; and Romans 15:19. Were those things mentioned not greater works of Christ through His church? And those works continue to this very day! In Him, Doc |

168 | Jesus vs Paul | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 241724
Hi, Blacik... Welcome to the forum! If you do not see harmony in the preaching of Jesus and the teaching of the apostles, the problem is your perspective. One of the fundamental principles of Scripture is called the analogy of faith. The old divines put it this way: "The infallible rule of interpretation of Scripture is the Scripture itself: and therefore, when there is a question about the true and full sense of any Scripture (which is not manifold, but one), it must be searched and known by other places that speak more clearly." 171 | When will the Antichrist come ? | 1 John 2:18 | DocTrinsograce | 241678
Hi, Tracy... The only explicit references to the antichrist is in the first and second Epistles of John. He tells us that an antichrist is anyone who denies that Jesus is Christ, deceivers that deny both the Father and the Son (1 John 2:22; 2 John 1:7). Furthermore, John tells us that "even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour" (1 John 2:18). Consequently, since antichrists appeared then and have appeared even in our own day, we may rightly conclude that these things occur prior to the Second Coming. Beyond that, Scripture is silent. There are many prophecy mongers and the like, though, that promulgate a view of some kind of special antichrist -- co-opting the word with a capital A. That opinion, though, is predicated on a dispensational hermeneutic of the church, unknown to Biblical orthodoxy. In Him, Doc |

Hi, Tracy... No, the Scriptures are the final only certain, sufficient, and infallible command of God saving knowledge, faith, and obedience (2 Timothy 3:15-17). We have a word for anything contrary to the Word of God, and that word is sin (James 1:13). In Him, Doc |

173 | Choosing Christ? | John 3:19 | DocTrinsograce | 241671
Hi, Jer... The teaching that you are talking about is called decisional regeneration. Scripture tells us that salvation is not a matter of the will (John 1:13). The Scripture tells us that no one can come to Christ without being drawn by God (John 6:44 -- the same word used in John 21:11 (drawing in a net), Acts 16:19 (forcibly brought into the market place), Acts 21:30 (forcibly brought out of the temple), etc.). This subject has to do with the ordo salutis (see post #151193). This has been much discussed on the forum. Use the search function and you will discover a great deal many posts in which the topic was deliberated. In Him, Doc |

175 | (All these) Signs of the end times | Matt 24:33 | DocTrinsograce | 241649
Hi, sonofmom... Since we do not know the hour of our Lord's return (Matthew 24:24) we must persevere to be found good and holy servants of His (v26). I pray earnestly for the salvation of my people, the Jews, and so I would ask all of you to do as well. However, please also pray for the enemies of the Jews. The only hope for any of them is through the Lord Jesus Christ. So as we eagerly seek the return of the Lord, let us also beseech Him to bring these lost ones into His fold. In Him, Doc |

176 | Does God force His will on us ? | Mark 1:12 | DocTrinsograce | 241632
Hi, Tracy... Welcome to the forum! I would answer yes to that question -- unequivocally and emphatically! Scripture, in which God reveals His very nature, tells us that He is sovereign over the entire universe (Psalm 103:19; Romans 8:28; Ephesians 1:11). God is sovereign over all of nature (Psalm 135:6-7; Matthew 5:45; 6:25-30). God is sovereign over the angels, including Satan (Psalm 103:20-21; Job 1:12). God is sovereign over nations (Psalm 47:7-9; Daniel 2:20-21; 4:34-35). God is sovereign over human beings (1 Samuel 2:6-7; Galatians 1:15-16). God is sovereign over animals (Psalm 104:21-30; 1 Kings 17:4-6). God is sovereign over "accidents" (Proverbs 16:33; John 1:7; Matthew 10:29). God is sovereign over the free acts of men (Exodus 3:21; 12:25-36; Ezekiel 7:27). God is sovereign even over the sinful acts of men and Satan (2 Samuel 24:1; 1 Chronicles 21:1; Genesis 45:5; 50:20). God cannot be thwarted, impeded, interfered with, stymied, blocked, or prevented in the tiniest of details (Job 4:2; Isaiah 14:27). When He acts, no one can reverse it (Isaiah 43:13). Nothing can hold back His hand or bring Him to account for what He does (Daniel 4:35); for God does as He pleases, only as He pleases, and whatever He pleases (Isaiah 46:10). Furthermore, Tracy, I continually praise the Lord for His sovereignty. This old Jew would never have been saved if He had left me to my own devices (Jeremiah 13:23; John 1:13). By the way, lots of people would prefer to be "the captain of their fate and the masters of their souls." It is a particularly popular belief in this humanistic world in which we live. However, the Scriptures do not shy away from the question. Indeed, just read what the Word tells us in Romans 9. In Him, Doc |

Hi, Dawn... Welcome to the forum! The verse you are seeking is Psalm 105:37; however, the phrase you sought is found in the KJV. The NASB translates it differently. It is interesting how the Children of Israel's condition so greatly differed from the Egyptians at that time. What a contrast! In Him, Doc |

Hi, stepmor... Welcome to the forum! That was a very good question. None of us in the forum can speak with any authority concerning the NASB translators' decisions. Sometimes I've gleened something useful from checking out the NET Bible. I was surprised to find this word in Mark 1:12 (with variations of "to be driven" in the TYN, GNV, KJV, ASV, LITV -- "impelled" as you pointed out in the NASB -- "put forth" in the YLT, WYC) was used 76 times in the New Testament. Sometimes it is helpful to see how a word is used in other contexts. In this case, it was very informative indeed. If anyone is interested, they are: Matthew 7:4, 5, 22; 8:12, 16, 31; 9:25, 33, 34, 38; 10:1, 8; 12:20, 24, 26, 27, 28, 35; 13:52; 15:17; 17:19; 21:12, 39; 22:13; 25:30; Mark 1:12, 34, 39, 43; 3:15, 22, 23; 5:40; 6:13; 7:26; 9:18, 28, 38, 47; 11:15; 12:8; 16:9, 17; Luke 4:29; 6:22, 42; 8:54; 9:40, 49; 10:2, 35; 11:14, 15, 18, 19, 20; 13:28, 32; 19:45; 20:12, 15; John 2:15; 6:37; 9:34, 35; 10:4; 12:31; Acts 7:58; 9:40; 13:50; 16:37; 27:38; Galatians 4:30; James 2:25; 3 John 1:10; and Revelation 11:2 If you find any helpful translation notes, please share them with us here.
