Hi, Sharsmit... Welcome to the forum! In grammar, pronouns always have an antecedent; that is, a previously used noun to which the pronoun refers. Read verse 7. Who is the one doing the redeeming? In Him, Doc |

242 | what does this mean | John 1:1 | DocTrinsograce | 241102
Hi, Novomix... Welcome to the forum! This is the declaration of the eternal divinity of Christ. It tells us that He is the eternal God come in the flesh (1 Timothy 3;16). This is an essential doctrine to Christianity -- without it, nothing of Christianity stands. Furthermore, John is telling us that Christ is the eternal wisdom and will of God; i.e., that He is the Speech; the very revelation of all truth and creation. In Him, Doc |

243 | 1 Chron 13v10 | Num 4:15 | DocTrinsograce | 241099
Hi, JD... Welcome to the forum! The reason Uzzah died was that he touched the Ark, contrary to what God had commanded (Numbers 4:15). A violation of God's Law is not minimized by the intent of the violator. God had commanded how the Ark was to be moved, but David commanded that it be done otherwise. It is amazing that God limited punishment to Uzzah. In Him, Doc |

245 | How many hours did Israelis march? | Josh 6:15 | DocTrinsograce | 241063
Hi, 00123... Scripture doesn't tell us, so any answer would be a matter of speculation. As a Jew, what interests me more, is that God commanded them to march around Jericho for seven days. That means that one of those days would be Sabbath -- thus the marchers would be violating the Sabbath rest mandate. I find that interesting. In Him, Doc |

249 | Why do we have ""Free-Will"? | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 241030
Hi, Terry... Welcome to the forum! Why questions are notoriously difficult, because they address intent. Where, what, when, who, and how can be answered pretty definitively. God often does not tell us why He has done what He has done. Thus it is with your question. In fact, I would be highly suspicious of anyone who tried to give you an answer. The fact of the matter is that He does not tell us why He created man the way He has done. All we can say for certain is that it pleased Him to do so. Thank Him, though, that He has limited us. My free-will got me in to lots of trouble over the years. However, if by His mercy He had not limited what I could will to do, I would have gotten into a lot more trouble! What is more, had He left me to my own will, I should never have sought Him! In Him, Doc |

250 | where is david sword? | 1 Sam 21:9 | DocTrinsograce | 241028
Hi, Kenneth... Welcome to the forum! I assume that you do not mean where is David's sword currently located. We know one sword that King David kept: the sword originally owned by Goliath (see 1 Samuel 21:9). In Him, Doc |

254 | Born again is receiving the spirit | Bible general | DocTrinsograce | 241006
Hi, hgh84... That statement is true, but it certainly is not all that we ought and can teach about the practice. There are a number of means of grace that the Lord Jesus Christ ordained for His church. Most orthodox Christians would at least admit to baptism and communion as two of them; historically some have included others (e.g., preaching). These means of grace, arguably, have no efficacy for lost people: to the lost, baptism is just getting wet; communion is just eating a chiclet and drinking some grape juice; preaching is just talk; etc. However, for the redeemed, these things are so much more than just the physical acts. 255 | god knocking on your heart | Rev 3:20 | DocTrinsograce | 241002
Hi, uuf170b... Welcome to the forum! You might have in mind Revelation 3:20. This is a passage often used as an evangelical call to unbelievers by proponents of decisionalism, at least since the days of Charles Finney. However, the context is not a call and warning to the lost, but rather to believers (see Revelation 3:14). Furthermore, the phrase “at the door” is an idiom signifying the coming soon coming of judgment (cf Matthew 24:33; Mark 13:29; and James 5:9). The Christians at the church in Laodicea had lost their zeal in Christ (Revelation 3:15-17). Our Lord is calling them to pursue Him with sincerity and verve (v18), placing the true value on Him, that they might be clothed in His righteousness and granted eyes to see His truth. For, as He says, “Those I love, I reprove and discipline” (v19a). Only His adopted sons are reproved and disciplined (cf Hebrews 12:5-8). In Him, Doc |

258 | I am a Victim Can God Help Me? | Matt 6:19 | DocTrinsograce | 240993
Hi, Stephanie... Welcome to the forum! Yes, I believe there is a significant amount of advice for those who have been sinned against. I believe it can be summed up in the third petition of the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:12). It may seem trite because it is oft repeated, but it really is fundamental to our faith: We seek to forgive, just as our Lord has forgiven us. Actually, if you think about it, of all people, a Christian should understand forgiveness. After all, our Lord Jesus Christ was the victim of our own crime. No one can sin against us to the extent to which we have sinned against us. You might read through Colossians 3, too. In Him, Doc |

259 | Genesis 5:20 | Eccl 8:8 | DocTrinsograce | 240989
Hi, Barbara... Welcome to the forum! Any answer would involve speculation, since the Scripture does not give us an explanation. God in His providence determines the length of our lives. No doubt that was true of all those who go before us; and all those who will come after us. In Him, Doc |
