1461 | Female pastor? Attending wrong? | 1 Timothy | srbaegon | 21723
Search....................................... Do a quick search for "woman pastor" or "female pastor" or some other variation and you'll get several posts. My response: I see a difference between the gift and the administrative role. A woman can have a gift for shepherding others, but in no circumstance should she be in spiritual leadership of a local church. Steve |

1462 | How many songs and proverbs did Solomon | 1 Kin 4:32 | srbaegon | 21701
Answer................... I believe this verse covers it. Steve |

1463 | Witnessing: What is your style? | John 1:7 | srbaegon | 21693
Method shift................................. For a long time, my method has been the direct way, which was the only one I knew being saved in a Baptist church. However, I was disturbed by the abundance or "professors" instead of "possessors". Recently, I was taught a more low-key, friendship method of reading the Bible together and letting God's word do all the work. I haven't had opportunity to use it yet, but I'm looking forward to it. 1464 | The River of No Return? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 21685
Agreement................................ I agree with Ed's assessment of our sectarian ways. I don't think unity can be restored on earth before Christ's return, though I would very much like it. Steve |

1465 | Is a woman supposed to have long hair? | 1 Cor 11:10 | srbaegon | 21646
Response......................................... Long hair is a woman's glory (1 Cor 11:15) and is part of a picture of God's order (the other part being a man's short hair). To reverse this is basically showing rebellion toward God. That being said, you may ask: What is too short or long enough? That's very difficult to answer. I would say that a woman's hair should be long enough to recognize as being a woman's length or style. Steve |

1466 | Does GOD get bored with the same prayer? | Matt 6:7 | srbaegon | 21544
Response................. As my Economics teacher used to say, "It depends." The Lord Jesus objected to the meaningless repetion of men in Matt 6:7-8. It meant nothing to them. However, when the need is real, we are encouraged to come early and often with the same prayer. See Luke 11:5-13 Steve |

1467 | The Genealogy of Jesus? | Matt 1:1 | srbaegon | 21019
Answer........................................... Matthew was establishing Jesus' right as King of Israel. As Joseph's "adoptive" son, the proof was established. Luke clearly gives Jesus' genetic link through Mary's genealogy in chapter 3. You can do a Quick Search to get several other posts on this. Steve |

1468 | Sin is fun for a season... | James 1:15 | srbaegon | 20939
Need more input.......... I did a search on some of these words. Is James 1:15 what you are looking for? Steve |

1469 | Amyraldianism, a 3rd choice or not? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 20826
Different look............................. Amyraut saw this seeming contradiction you are speaking of and determined there were two wills of God at work--a revealed, conditional will and a secret, unconditional will. He never found a way to combine them, that we know of. It's like what we find in Scripture concerning atonement and forgiveness. Atonement is a past event being made by Christ on the cross. It is the covering or reconciliation or appeasement (Rom 5:11) made concerning God’s wrath. Forgiveness or remission of sin takes place when we believe (Acts 10:43; 26:18). It’s basically a release or deliverance of debt in this case the debt of sin. Forgiveness is based on atonement but is a second act done when a person believes on Christ. Atonement is the sufficient provision. Forgiveness is the efficient work. Anyone care to add more mud to the water? :) Steve |

1470 | WHY DAVID WROTE THE BOOK OF PSALMS? | Psalm | srbaegon | 20693
Response................. Understand that David did not write all the psalms, but there are so many which he authored that it's common to refer to the book of Psalms as David's book. The psalms are written because of various things going on in the writer's life (sins, victories, despondency, worship). That's why people enjoy reading Psalms. There seems to be something for whatever you are going through or thinking on. Many of the psalms have an explanation just preceding it explaining the background. Psalm 51 was written as a result of David's repentance when confronted with his sin with Bathsheba (the sin is found in 2 Samuel 11; the confrontation in 2 Samuel 12). Steve |

1472 | Origin of Rapture of the Church doctrine | Matt 24:3 | srbaegon | 20686
Further input.......................... Hello Steve, What Serenetime gave was correct but incomplete. John Nelson Darby also independently formulated a doctrine concerning the rapture. Many have said that Darby learned it from MacDonald, but this is not the case. He did visit her once and rejected her as being unsound biblically. Steve |

1475 | Thanks, but... | Psalm | srbaegon | 20382
Attempted answer.......................... Dalprad, You have one side that states in worship we should use everything possible to praise God in every way. The instrumentation in the Psalms are used especially to back this position. You have the other side that states in worship we should put away all material trappings. The reasoning is that God had Israel use these things because they were His earthly people and Christians are His heavenly people ("our citizenship is in heaven", "set your mind on things above", etc.). So we should not have instrumentation. There's more to each side. That was just a quick look. What I go to is Eph 5:19 and Col 3:16 which tells of using pslams, hymns, and spiritual songs to teach, encourage, and worship. If I remember correctly (somebody stop me if I'm off), the intent behind these words was to have (or allow for)instrumental accompaniment. Steve |

1476 | How do you get the Holy ghost? | NT general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 20375
Answer.................. You receive the Holy Spirit when you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. (Eph 1:13-14; Acts 2:38; 10:43-44; Romans 8) Steve |

1477 | Questions to ask an unbeliever in GOD | 1 Cor 9:22 | srbaegon | 20327
Answer................ 1. Paul's example in 1 Cor 9:19-23. Paul sought to understand the person/people he was dealing with so that he might have opportunity to share Christ. Get to know the person well. Do things together. 2. Keep it simple. As Paul said: 1 Cor 2:2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. Hope this helps. Steve |

1478 | Faith apart from reading the Bible? | Rom 10:17 | srbaegon | 20321
Response................... Hi Steve, Yes, one can come to faith without reading it directly out of the Bible. But...! I firmly believe you have to hear the gospel as the attached verse indicates, so you know what that faith is placed in. Steve |
||||||
1479 | Joe, is the Bible not sufficienct? | Lev 16:34 | srbaegon | 20226
My response to your question is this: It is impossible to do without commentaries. Now let me explain. As you have stated, commentaries are the words of men. They are the interpretation and application of the Scriptures. When you or I teach, preach, or disciple, we are living commentaries. Now, I understand what you were driving at--going to the commentary first before digging for ourselves. After all, didn't the Lord Jesus promise that the Holy Spirit would lead us into all truth? For the record, I've read of men (very few) who never used printed materials other than their Bibles. Some did well, some did not. Steve |

1480 | Is there any practical difference? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 20223
Using Bill's questions to answer. How does your belief in Calvinism or Armenianism affect: 1) Your personal relationship to God? An understanding that God is both sovereign over and intimately involved in my life. 2) How accepted you feel that you are to God? Absolutely confident of acceptance. 3) Your prayer life? He desires to be called on and is faithful to answer. 4) Your Bible study? This makes a difference. If I come across something that seems to contradict my way of thinking, my brain sort of "seizes up" for a while. It forces me to look anew. 5) Your ability to share the gospel with others? It's my job to present the Word, and the Holy Spirit's to convict and apply the Word. If I keep that in mind, there's no problem. That's a good start. BTW, Bill asked Sir Pent if he was "C" or "A". For the record, I'm an "A"--Amyraldian. :-) Steve |
