1443 | what did jesus look like | Hebrews | srbaegon | 27628

1445 | 1 Timothy 5 | 1 Timothy | srbaegon | 27566
Recommendation........... Hello lilbits, Coming from a Plymouth Brethren background, I can understand your church structure with the inherent strengths and weaknesses. The best book I've seen on the subject of elders is "Biblical Eldership" by Alex Strauch. I have other suggestions as well, but I don't want to fill up the forum's database. Feel free to contact me at srbricker@hotmail.com. Steve |

1447 | Blood covenant:What's in it for us? | Ephesians | srbaegon | 26266
Hello ThomasTheNonDoubter! I'm not sure Lockman Foundation has enough disk space to properly answer this question. Reading Ephesians 1-3 would give a good start. Is there something more specific you were interested in? Steve |

1448 | Why Aaron? | Ex 28:1 | srbaegon | 26254
Hello prayon! Nolan gave a good answer. I would add that it demonstrates God's mercy and gives a great assurance in allowing us to exercise our priesthood even with all our shortcomings. Steve |

1449 | Compare the annointings of Jesus? | NT general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 25699
Good afternoon! To answer your questions: Yes, the gospel writers were using polite terms for prostitution. The woman could have been anybody. We just do not know. I'm not sure one can say Mary followed the example, but rather that they both had the same great idea. As a side note, a comparison of the two anointings is an interesting study. Both hosted by Simon--one an outcast, the other a dignitary. At the Pharisee's house one went away righteous. At the leper's house, one went away condemned. Comparisons of the places Jesus was anointed--head and feet. Responses by the attendees of the action. Great stuff! Steve |

1450 | Genesis 3:1-7 | Genesis | srbaegon | 25681
It seems very unlikely that illicit sexual relations are in view. Scripture is "up front" about such relations using "lay with" in later chapters of Genesis, so to cloud it in such symbolic language would not make sense. Steve |

Didn't you hear? Hank, What happened was that StudyBibleForum got moved to MSNBC, MSNBC moved to MarthStewart, and MarthaStewart got moved to WarAndPolitics. :-) Steve |

1452 | Asking others for forgiveness | Matt 5:24 | srbaegon | 24378
Response................. Matt 5:23-24 gives a broad statement on what to do if you sin against another. Because the spouse has been sinned against with the adultery, forgiveness and reconciliation must be sought from the spouse. And that process will not be an easy one. Steve |

1453 | What king prayed to God and had 15 years | 2 Kin 20:6 | srbaegon | 24111
Answer.................. Hezekiah Steve |
||||||
1454 | What was the prodigal son greedy | Luke | srbaegon | 23691
Response.................................... Based on the way Christ painted him (impatient and wasteful), I would say yes. Steve |
||||||
1455 | commentary on first and seconCorinthians | 1 Corinthians | srbaegon | 23667
Summary........................... A quick summary would be "Body life of the local church". The issues raised and answered are those of the local body of believers as they live and worship with one another. Steve |

1456 | Not mixed Spirits | 1 Peter | srbaegon | 21927
Alternate view................................... Actually, I agree with Casiv's basic premise--that these "sons of God" were fallen angels. I think the comparison against the "daughters of men" lends credence to this. The difficulty, which you have brought up, is that they would have to put on flesh and somehow propagate. One explanation I heard recently was that these were men who were possessed by the evil spirits and their physical make-up was somehow altered enough to allow birth to these giants. Steve |

1457 | Sabbath | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 21810
Question................. I did not realize there was a difference between Hebrew and Roman calendars. Could you explain it for me? Steve |

1458 | What about the Silent Prayer II | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 21807
Response................................... My previous post gave what I thought to be a scriptural application of silent prayer. And as you've stated--prayer is communication. Remember, though, that we are communicating with the One who knows the thoughts and intentions of the heart. I agree that verbal prayer helps me in my concentration, but I cannot prove from the Bible that verbal is the only correct way. Steve |
||||||
1459 | Receive Spirit with salvation or later? | Acts 2:38 | srbaegon | 21799
Response................................. The Holy Spirit is given when we believe (Eph 1:13-14). The confusion comes because Jesus was speaking at a time when the Holy Spirit did not automatically come to the righteous. Steve |

1460 | What about the Silent Prayer | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 21793
Response................. Others on this forum may disagree, but I believe there are appropriate uses for silent prayer. I give for example Nehemiah, where he stood before the king and offered up (as I see it) a short, silent prayer before continuing. Neh 2:4-5 Then the king said to me, "What would you request?" So I prayed to the God of heaven. I said to the king, "If it please the king, and if your servant has found favor before you, send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may rebuild it." Steve |
