1361 | Parental Alienation and Deuteronomy 28 | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 39955
Hello LimeJuice You and your son are certainly going through a difficult ordeal with this. I couldn't possibly say that I know what you are going through. May the Lord uphold you with His strong right arm. I'm glad you mentioned that you want your son to soak up the Word. Deut 28 places a high regard for Scripture in our lives for the blessing to be abundant. We are called to obey so the sanctifying work of Scripture can have its way in us (John 17:17). Steve |

1362 | Was Satan on earth before Adam | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 39943
Hello Banjo Man The answer depends on one's view of the order of creation and Satan's fall. Some would say that Satan's revolt occurred before creation because of the language used in Gen 1:1-2 and Is 45:18. I would say that Satan fell after creation because of Ezek 28:13 which shows him in Eden as beautiful before sin was found in him. Steve |

1363 | luke 18:22, | Luke 18:22 | srbaegon | 39852
Hello Frank, The Lord was getting to where the rich, young ruler lived--his pocketbook. It was coming between him and a life committed to Christ. It's our attitude toward money that's important, not the amount we have. 1 Tim. 6:10 (ESV) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. Steve |

1364 | Sins of the Father? | Ex 34:7 | srbaegon | 39848
Hello Ms. Cherokee Some verses which speak to this are: Exodus 20:4-6 (ESV) "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. [5] You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, [6] but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. Exodus 34:6-7 (ESV) The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, [7] keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation." Be careful how these are used because of the following: Ezekiel 18:19-20 (ESV) "Yet you say, 'Why should not the son suffer for the iniquity of the father?' When the son has done what is just and right, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely live. [20] The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. Now how do these relate? God holds individuals guilty for the sin committed. However, the consequences of the sin can be felt for generations to come. Steve |

1365 | The Nature of God | Ex 34:6 | srbaegon | 39837
Hello again Servitude, Exodus 34:6-7 (ESV) The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, "The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, [7] keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation." 1366 | How to serve the Lord? | 1 Pet 4:11 | srbaegon | 39826
Hello Servitude This came to mind 1 Peter 4:10-11 (ESV) As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: [11] whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Steve |

1367 | How was Jesus birth accounted? | Matthew | srbaegon | 39820
Hello January There are several possible answers. 1. Mary was among the disciples and could have given input. 2. The parentage in chapter one could have been given by one of Jesus' brothers. 3. We don't have everything that was discussed while following the Lord, so it may have come up in conversation. Steve |

1368 | Dedication | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 39807
Hello eagle11 There is no Scripture saying parents should have a formal dedication. Dedication is really a determination by the parents to raise their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph 6:4). Often times the example of Hannah dedicating Samuel to God (1 Samuel 1) is used to show we need to do this in a more formal way, but that is only one instance and cannot be considered normative. 1370 | can you be commited and not prepar | 1 Cor 15:58 | srbaegon | 39789
Hello steelersmaze I think this verse says it pretty well. Commitment is an act of the will. This does not guarantee instant ability. In anyone's job there is a continual need to learn new skills or information in order to perform well. It's the same in serving God. We take an active part in being in the Scriptures. God sanctifies in us in His truth--His Word (John 17:17). Steve |

1371 | I am a man under authority? Matt 8 | Matt 8:9 | srbaegon | 39701
Hello wdctwin1 The centurion understood the proper use of authority and submission in his life as a Roman officer. He could see the same relationship working in Jesus' life between His relationship to the Father and the works He performed. Because of this, the centurion could say that the Lord's presence was not needed, but just a word could be spoken. Steve |

1375 | Why not use Yahweh for LORD? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 39690
Hello farout, I would say that reason we don't use YHWH is because it's Hebrew, and we speak English. To be the most accurate, I would be more inclined to use "I AM" in those places. One translation that has Yahweh is World English Bible (Rainbow Missions, Inc.) http://www.ebible.org/bible/WEB/ I really don't know how good it is. Steve |

1378 | God's motives concerning Adam/Eve | Genesis | srbaegon | 39579
Hello chynna You are assuming that Satan and his followers were cast down first. I think his downfall came after creation (Ezek 28:12-13). But more to your point, I can condense your questions to one: Why did God do all these things, if He knew what was going to happen? The best answer I can give is that He did it to demonstrate the greatness of who He is and to glorify Himself in it. Would we ever know the extent of God's grace or mercy or patience or love or (fill in the blank) if sin had not entered the world? I don't see how. It's a wonderful mystery to me. Steve |

1379 | kissing? | Bible general Archive 1 | srbaegon | 39443
Hello sunnyh I really cannot answer this. Some couples I know never kissed before the wedding. My wife and I did. You both have to determine, early in the relationship, where to stop. Steve |

Hello Bill This same line of thinking has been put forth to account for the census numbers of the children of Israel. Except there it is viewed as family groups rather then chiefs of thousandmen. You can see the paper at http://www.noble-minded.org/exodus.html Steve |
