141 | scripture stating not to co-sign | John 6:15 | BMyers | 225348
Thanks for the advice. Here are those scriptures in two other English translations: Proverbs 11:15 15 Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer harm, but he who hates striking hands in pledge is secure.(ESV) 15He who is guarantor for a stranger will surely suffer for it,But he who hates being a guarantor is secure. (NASB) Proverbs 6:1-19 1My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, have given your pledge for a stranger, 2if you are snared in the words of your mouth, caught in the words of your mouth, 3then do this, my son, and save yourself, for you have come into the hand of your neighbor: go, hasten, and plead urgently with your neighbor. 4 Give your eyes no sleep and your eyelids no slumber; 5save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the hand of the fowler. 6 Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. 7 Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, 8she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. 9 How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, 11 and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man. 12 A worthless person, a wicked man, goes about with crooked speech, 13 winks with his eyes, signals with his feet, points with his finger, 14with perverted heart devises evil, continually sowing discord; 15therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing. 16There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, 19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.(ESV) My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, Have given a pledge for a stranger, 2If you have been snared with the words of your mouth, Have been caught with the words of your mouth, 3Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself; Since you have come into the hand of your neighbor, Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor. 4Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids; 5Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter's hand And like a bird from the hand of the fowler. 6Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise, 7Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler, 8Prepares her food in the summer And gathers her provision in the harvest. 9How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? 10"A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest"-- 11Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man. 12A worthless person, a wicked man, Is the one who walks with a perverse mouth, 13Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, Who points with his fingers; 14Who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil, Who spreads strife. 15Therefore his calamity will come suddenly; Instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing. 16There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: 17Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, 18A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil, 19A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.(NASB) |

143 | "only believe" | 2 Tim 1:7 | BMyers | 225335
Well, at least you are in good company. Abraham in Genesis 12 dealt with fear, Lot was afraid (Genesis 19:30), Elijah in 1 Kings 19, and what about the disciples in Matthew 8:23-27. So you can see fear happens even to what I think most would call great men of God. Yet, we have to notice something else, fear doesn't come from God. 2 Timothy 1:7, makes this very clear. We are commended to follow Psalm 55:22. Most don't have a problem with casting them, yet we seem to want to pick them back up after they have been cast. If you are striving to overcome these within yourself, you can never do that on your own. Our works can't save us (Titus 3:4-7). Trying to keep this post a responsible thing, I will refer you to a website http://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-fear.html that have seen others reference on this forum which should give you a little more in depth information concerning fear. 144 | John 1:12 | John 3:3 | BMyers | 225333
I didn't know there was much confusion around John 1:12 today. Verse 13, explains further about verse 12. In Jesus time, this concept could of been hard to grasp since they didn't have the completed Scriptures and this was basically be presented as a new concept to them. As far as Jerome’s Commentary (assuming you are referring to the New Jerome’s Commentary), I think a Catholic forum would be more of a suited place for that discussion. My very limited knowledge is that this commentary is very debatable. Brad |

145 | When, what and who are included? | Rev 7:14 | BMyers | 224272
Hi justme, Please understand, that I'm not trying to persuade anyone that pre-trib is the right choice. I just tried to point out in the original question that it wasn't a simple answer because as you have and I have tried, but done poorly at to point out there are more than one view without any clear answer. I guess I shouldn’t have mentioned that I believed in pre-trib (reminds me of a comic I once say with a line of doors and they each had a different title over them, pre-pre-trib, pre-trib, mid-trib, mid-mid-trib, post-trib, post-post-trib, etc., but they all opened to the same place, heaven). Tribulation is present in a fallen world. Some suffer greater than others. I feel very fortunate that I have not had to suffer as some in other parts of the world. The clear answer as you have pointed out and I have tried, we have to be ready whenever and for whatever. I have come across to many Christians who quickly become discouraged because life doesn’t instantly turn into a story-book with them getting everything they want and having no problems. Jesus didn’t promise a life free of struggles and problems, but He did promise the peace to overcome them. Joh 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." Brad |

146 | When, what and who are included? | Rev 7:14 | BMyers | 224262
"Aside from believing in Jesus what is it that one needs to be doing to be ready" Well, we are called to take the Gospel to all the ends of the earth, to pray, to continue to grow in the knowledge of the Word to name a few. I can quote the scripture for them if you need me to. Yet as you pointed out the most important part is ones salvation. Scripture indicates that no one but the Father knows when Christ will return, so we must be ready at all times. Brad |

147 | When, what and who are included? | Rev 7:14 | BMyers | 224254
Mat 24:44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Brad |

148 | When, what and who are included? | Rev 7:14 | BMyers | 224244
The answer is yes, maybe, and no. The timing of the tribulation is what is at debate. If you are a pre-tribulation thought, then only unsaved go through the tribulation, if you are mid-tribulation, then Christians go through half of the tribulation before the rapture occurs and if you are a post-tribulation, then as you guessed, you go through the whole tribulation. I am of the belief of the pre-tribulation. Here is a link www.gotquestions.org/tribulation.html that explains it a little more. Now with that being said, there are others who disagree and can provide support for the belief of mid- or post-tribulation. The key thing is to be ready for the coming of our Lord and Savior regardless of when the tribulation comes. Brad |

150 | apostles voted for another after Judas | Acts | BMyers | 224167
Act 1:23 And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias. Act 1:24 And they prayed and said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen Act 1:25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place." Act 1:26 And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. (ESV) I believe this is a denominational trait and not a Biblical principal. Brad |

151 | What does the Bibles say about Deacons? | 1 Timothy | BMyers | 224048
1 Timothey is what comes to mind when asked about qualifications. 1Ti 3:8 Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. 1Ti 3:9 They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 1Ti 3:10 And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. 1Ti 3:11 Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. 1Ti 3:12 Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. 1Ti 3:13 For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. 152 | Verse: small things added up? | Ps 32:6 | BMyers | 223826
6 These things add up. Every one of us needs to pray when all hell breaks loose and the dam bursts we'll be on high ground, untouched. (MESSAGE) The closest I could find was using the paraphrased Message Bible. If you look at the NASB, you will see the verse reads different. Brad |

153 | Were do angel fear to tread? | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 223804
I don't believe the Bible states anything about this topic. I know the phrase was a title of a novel, the title of a 1991 movie, and title of a couple of albums/songs by various artist (little internet research). I can't think of any scripture that says angels are afraid to walk somewhere. Brad |

155 | kings in old testament | 1 Kings | BMyers | 223658
Well, if you are asking about all the kings in the Old Testament, it is more than 43. First one that comes to mind is Melchizedek. Gen 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) (ESV) Then you start counting the various Pharaohs. I had heard once, there are close to 90 kings mentioned by name in the Old Testament, yet I have never taken the time to count them and list them with the Biblical reference. According to Encyclopedia of Biblical facts, 19 Kings of Israel and 20 Kings of Judah which doesn't include Saul, David, or Solomon. Brad |

156 | how man judges were in the old testament | Judges | BMyers | 223657
There are 12 listed in the book of Judges. Yet, Moses also was a judge. Exo 18:13 The next day Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from morning till evening. (ESV) Also, the task of being a judge was given to others. Exo 18:25 Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. Exo 18:26 And they judged the people at all times. Any hard case they brought to Moses, but any small matter they decided themselves. (ESV) Brad |

157 | Money changers in Temple | Matthew | BMyers | 223632
My limited understanding, the original purpose of the money changers was to allow travels who had come from other areas to purchase the required sacrifices that they had been unable or unwilling to bring with them. Since some came from other a far, this required them to change their money for the temple money so they could buy the sacrifices. Brad |

159 | Crusifixtion a sacrafice? John 3:16 | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 223562
I will have to disagree with men that have been tortured in a much greater degree statement. Mark 15:34, shows a torture that none of us can understand. Even knowing death was a temporal matter for Christ, doesn't make the sacrifice any less significant to go through. The example that comes to mind is mother fiving birth to her child. The pain is tremendous, thankfully modern medicine has made this task easier on woman, yet none the less still struggle, even though they know it will only last for a short period of time. The length of time in the grave seems insignificant even though He knew that it was only for x days, months, or years (just like a mother giving birth will know it will only last x amount time). The sacrifice was the taking of His perfect state and making it imperfect by bearing the sins of those that couldn't. Yes, you were right I do get irritated and I forget at times, that Jesus doesn't need my help to defend Himself (Mat 26:53). Thank you for taking my comments in stride. Brad |

160 | Crusifixtion a sacrafice? John 3:16 | Bible general Archive 4 | BMyers | 223560
The first question I have for you, how much do you look forward to your own death? If you are a Christian, you know it is only a temporal death, yet many still do not look forward to the end. Your body will fight to stay alive as long as it can. With that being said, when you die, you are not taking on the sins of the WHOLE world; you aren't even taking on your sins. Christ, who was without sin, took on everyone’s sin. I don't think we can even imagine what that would be like. His death "only lasted three days". Let me place you in a totally dark room, void of everything except the walls that are keeping you in and see how long three days feels like to you. Ultimately, the most important part, the Son of God, who knew no sin, became sin, so that we could be found acceptable to the Father. He did what we couldn’t do and paid the price by taking on the sin that we can't get rid of on our own. He willing accepted my wickedness on His perfect state so that I might be redeemed. Christ bears the scars from that day (John 20:27) when HE took on the sins of the world. Brad |
