1281 | delivered from sin, satan, or both??? | Matt 6:13 | prayon | 4254
There is debate on this question and nobody really knows for sure. In Greek it is ambiguous, but according to the International Bible commentary it is believed that the personal reading is better, for God uses Satan as the tester. It may well be that the original Aramaic was just as vague. Hope this helps

1289 | Three different heavens in the Bible? | 2 Cor 12:2 | prayon | 4131
This Interpretation brings up RED FLAGS for me!!!! There is only one religious group that believes in 3 heavens - The Mormons. They believe that heaven is for everyone, but consists of 3 different and distinct levels: terestial for non believers, terrestial for religious non-Mormons and backslidden Mormons, and celestial for good LDS church members only, where they may even become Gods. In an explanation for that verse in my life application bible it states that Paul was continuing his foolish boasting as he called it, by telling about visions and revelations he had from the Lord. "I know a person" means that he was speaking about himself. He explained that he didn't know if he was taken in his body or his spirit, but he was in paradise ("the third heaven"). This incident can not be matched with any recorded event in Paul's life. The concept of the 3 heavens may of been deduced from the "heavens, even the highest heaven" mentioned in 1Kings 8:27, which may of been referring to God's great omnipresence, (See Ps 139:7-16 or Is 66:1). |

1290 | EVE'S NAME | Gen 2:23 | prayon | 4130
According to the bible Adam said that "this one shall be called woman"or 'ishshah in Hebrew, which just means the female sex. Eve means living or enlivening or life giving. She was named by Adam in Gen 3:20. The Hebrew word for Eve is Chavvah. |

1291 | Should the Bible be taken literally? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 4128
"I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds tho them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book; if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away that person's share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book", (Rev 22:18-19). This warning was given to those who might purposely distort the message of this book. NO human explanation OR interpretation should be elevated to the same authority as the text itself. In Deut 2:4 Moses tells us that we must keep the commandments of God. See also Prov 30:5-6. If we believe that the bible is outdated or that commandments are no longer valid we are taking away from the word of God. I have yet to find or hear of a scripture(s) that cannot be applied to our situations today or that we can not learn from to help us become better Christians today. Scripture is God's word, not mans. "ALL scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, so that EVERYONE who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work", (2Tim 3:16, emphasis mine). |

1294 | i need a bio on paul the apostle | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 4106
Paul is one of my favorites. He was born in Tarsus as a Jew. It was Paul, who was called Saul at that time, who passionately hated Christians and persecuted them unmercifully. He went to the high priest and asked permission to bring them bound to Jerusalem. It was because of Saul that the Christians scattered and the gospel began to spread world wide. While on his was to Damascus a bright light from heaven shined around him and he fell to the ground and was blinded. Jesus then asked him why he persecuted him so. Jesus sent him to on tho Damascus to a disciple named Ananias. Ananias after a word from the Lord healed Saul. He got up and was baptised at that time. He stayed several days with the disciples, dedicated his life to Christ, and boldly started preaching the gospel, however it did take some time for people to trust him again. The Jews in Damascus plotted to kill him so the other disciples let him down over the wall in a basket. He traveled all over as a missionary and taught the gospel to thousands upon thousands. Until Paul was converted little was done about carrying the gospel to the non-Jews. He preached in Rome 3 times. He was a tentmaker by trade and very strong willed but always obedient to Christ. He wrote most of the NT epistles. Paul was believed to of been, according to tradition, beheaded after a imprisonment in Rome about 62 AD |

1295 | Satan? | Is 14:12 | prayon | 4104
You can get Satan from this verse because of the parallel between Lucifer and star of morning or as the New Revised Standard calls him Day Star. Also because the person here is too powerful to be any human king. However, Satan does not fit with the rest of the chapter.
1296 | Who wet Jesus feet with her tears? | Luke 7:44 | prayon | 4038
Thanks Phil for your input. However the woman can not be Mary, sister of Lazarus. Both incidents did happen in the house of Simon the Pharisee, if Simon the leper and Simon the Pharisee are indeed the same person, but the woman in Luke was a sinner whom the diciples believed was not worthy of touching the feet of Jesus. Mary would never fit into that description. Also Luke says that the women poured a jar of ointment on His feet whereas Mary poured a jar of perfume on Jesus head. One was done early in Jesus' ministry and the other done during the Passover time.
1297 | What is the Holy Spirit? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 4037
Angel: a spiritual being, subordinate to God, who serves at God's command and pleasure to deliver His messages, help people or punish His enemies, (Harper's Bible Dictionary). Holy Spirit: The mysterious power or presence of God in nature or with individuals and communities, inspiring or empowering them with qualities they would not otherwise possess. The word spirit translates in Hebrew and Greek to wind, and breath (Harpers Bible Dictionary). These two definitions are totally different so how can the Holy Spirit be made up of angels? The Holy Spirit is a part of the Holy Trinity. I have never read that angels are a part of the trinity, have you? Considering the fact that God and the Holy Spirit are one how can the Holy Spirit, according to your definition and the above definition, be subordinate to Himself? |

1298 | What is the sin that IS forgivable? | Ex 20:13 | prayon | 4022
I believe that there is but on sin that is unforgivable - blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. All other sins are forgiven if you have truly repented from them. I believe that when you continue in the sin and don't repent from your heart that is when it is unforgiven. Remember "as far as the east is from the west"? After all Jesus could never be wrong could He?
1299 | Who wet Jesus feet with her tears? | Luke 7:44 | prayon | 4020
Luke tells us that a woman wet Jesus feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. Does anyone know who this woman was?

Also: The religious leaders were the best known, most powerful, and most respected of all leaders. If you look through out the gospels you will note that Jesus repeatedly rebuked these leaders and made fools of them in front of many. They were unable to ask Him a question that He did not have an answer for that was undebateable. Jesus, also, spoke of them in parables. In the parable of the 2 sons the Jewish leaders are the son who professed to serve but refused to obey. In the parable of the wicked tenants Jesus held them responsible for the nation's fruitlessness before God. In the parable of the King's wedding feast they are condemned because they refuse to honor the King's Son with a responce to His invitation. In Matthew 23:1-8 Jesus warn His followers to do whatever they teach you and follow it but do not do as they do. After exposing their worthless works and base motives He addressed them personally with the 8 woes. Jesus was unmistakenly in their way and they had to be rid of Him.
