1281 | Who is Peter writing to his 1st Epistle? | 1 Pet 1:1 | prayon | 89245
Greetings, I have looked at a few different references. All references agree that it was written between 64 AD and 68 AD. It is also agreed upon that it was written because of the believers facing increasing persecution. The purpose of the letter was to encourage and to teach them how to live victoriously in the midst of persecution. As a result of this persecution the believers scattered throughout the Roman empire. The MacArthur study bible says that these pilgrims were mostly Gentiles. Galatia was made up of mostly Greeks, Bithynia was a combination of Gauls and Greeks, and in Pontus Claudius had demanded in 50 AD that all Jews leave the city. However there must of been Jews involved because Peter was an apostle to the Jews as Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles. 1:18-19 is referring to Christ's death and how we were not redeemed by gold or silver but by the blood of Christ. They did put their trust in gold and silver but Peter is reminding them that it was not physical things that redeemed us. Their fathers did not know Jesus and were caught up in all the things that Jesus confronted the Pharisees with - they thought riches could buy anything - what a deceived generation! Hope this clears it up a little. prayon |

1282 | what is following His Footsteps to you? | 1 Pet 2:21 | prayon | 60638
Greetings inheavenseyes, I agree with Makarios but I want to add that Christ was an example that we need to imitate. We are called to suffer without flinching, if need be, for we see in Jesus the greatest example of one who suffered unjustly without striking back. We will at sometime have to endure some sort of persecution. Christ-like behavior on the part of the believer in the midst of such trials results in the strengthening and perfecting of the Christian on earth. Christ set a pattern for us to follow that in suffering or persecution we are to have Christ's patience and love in dealing with the trial before us. prayon |

1283 | My wife filed for separation; what can I | 1 Pet 3:1 | prayon | 25064
Greetings BJK Chriss! That would be an impossible quesion to answer not knowing the situation or reasons that she left. I can tell you that with God anything is possible. I would suggest that you pray that God will open your eyes to the entire situation and give you the wisdom to proceed in the way that He would want you to. If you want to write me my address is in my user info. I could probably be more specific if I knew more. God Bless You. prayon
1284 | what does 1 Peter 3:3 mean? | 1 Pet 3:3 | prayon | 2340
When you consider verse 4 with verse 3 it is saying that you should not try to draw people to you with lots of jewelry, fancy hair styles, or fine and/or extravagant clothes. Instead let people be drawn to you by by what is important to God - your meek, gentle, humble spirit and loving nature. There is nothing wrong in wearing jewelry as long as you wear it so as not to draw attention to yourself because of the jewelry. It along with all other outward appearence items should be worn humbly, modestly and tastefully.
1285 | Noah and his family | 1 Pet 3:20 | prayon | 6046
Genesis 6:13 says that God was determined to make an end to ALL flesh, however, Noah had found favor with the Lord (Gen 6:8). God instructed Noah to take his household, Noah, his wife, their 3 sons and the sons wives, into the ark, for Noah alone was righteous before God (Gen 7:1). Genesis 7:23 tells us that the God blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, human beings and animals...only Noah was left and those in the ark. It was a physical salvation. We now know that this did truly take place in the physical because God has allowed the ark to be found on the top of Mt Arafat. prayon

Sam, forgive me for the mispelling - I definitly meant Ararat. I went on the assumption that we already knew it to be true because it is in the bible and God said it. Something I should not of done. Please forgive me. Thank you for your new insight on the spiritual salvation. We all learn new things every day. By the way I am not a "sir". :o) prayon
1287 | A SIN TO FILE BANKRUPTCY | 1 Pet 4:10 | prayon | 129624
Greetings, Since there is no scripture that I know of I will tell you what I believe. I believe that it lays with the reason for the bankruptsy. Sometimes we get into a hardship because of something that was beyond our control - such as a medical problem, loss of a job, disability or other situations beyond our control. When those situations arise, if we have been good stewards of our finances I do not believe that it is a sin to file a bankruptsy. However if one is filing because of greed, carelessness or the like then I believe that we are responsible for our debts. I hope that helps. prayon
1288 | A SIN TO FILE BANKRUPTCY | 1 Pet 4:10 | prayon | 129666
Greetings glory, I take it to mean that you think that it is against the bible But suppose one has been a good steward of their finances but something happens such as an accident or illness and they can no longer pay their debts - then what? prayon
1289 | 1 John passages interpretation | 1 John | prayon | 60654
Greetings, In 1John 8 the water is referring to Jesus baptism. Water and blood constitute the external objective witnesses to who Christ is. They refer to the baptism and death (blood). In 1John 3:4-8 When we are born again we become a member of God's family. It is inconsistant for a member of God's family, who should bear the family likeness to practice sin. In doing so he would be denying the family likeness and repudiating God's will. John does not say that the one who abides in Christ does not commit a single act of sin, instead he declares no one who dwells in Him is practicing sin. He may, and does, commit individual acts of sin, but he does not habitually live a life of sin because sin in incompatible with the believer's position in Christ. Sin unto death is any premeditated and unconfessed sin that causes the Lord to determine to end to the believers life. It is not an indivdual sin like murder or lying, but whatever sin is the final one in the tolerance of God. Again John is indicating here that no one who has been born of God habitually engages in sin. In this last verse John is highlighting the importance of adherence to the fundamentals of the faith. He is referring here to the false teachers that withdrew from the brotherhood with which they had formally been associated. The false teachers upheld the world's philosophy as superior to God's revelation as demonstratedd in their perversion of basic Christian teaching. John warns the children of Christ to protect themselves from their false beliefs and practices. Faith in Jesus and dedication of one's life to Him make one an overcomer. In 4:17 the judgement referred to is the time when we stand before dthe judgement seat of Christ. (answers taken from Everyman's Bible Comentary and MacArthur Study Bible) prayon |

1290 | forgiveness confirmed? | 1 John 1:1 | prayon | 61172
Greetings GJH, Suppose you owned a business and you had an employee that had just told you that he was going to quit. Now this employee was your best employee. He worked long hours without high wages. He did overtime to get the job done and never charged you a cent. He was one of those employees who went above and beyond the call of duty. What would you do to get this employee to stay? Would you tell him just about anything to stay? Well when you were not walking with God you were walking with Satan. He does not want to loose you back to Jesus. He will do and say anything to get you to doubt your faith in God. He is truly a deceiver. He will deceive you in all ways. You do not have to and probably won't experience anything "definative" to confirm your relationship. The bible tells you that your relationship has been restored! You are forgiven and your slate has been wiped clean! You must believe and know in your heart that God has forgiven you and the angels in heaven are rejoicing your return. Never doubt God. God is not a God of fear. Fear belongs to Satan. Do not allow Satan to get a foothold in your life by getting you to question God. Claim your Joy!!! prayon |

1291 | forgiveness confirmed? | 1 John 1:1 | prayon | 61330
GJH, God knew a long time ago that you would be going through this discouragement. That's why you have His word. He tells you over and over throughout the bible that He loves you. Jesus gave His life for you. What greater sign of His love could He give you? Read His words to you. Personalize them. - For God so loved ME that He gave his only son that when I believe in Him I will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) Fear not: For He has redeemed ME, He has called ME by name; I are His. When I pass through the waters, He will be with ME; and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm ME; when I walk through fire I shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume ME. For He is the Lord MY God. (Isa 43:1-2) ...for He has said, He will never leave ME nor forsake ME...The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me. (Heb 13:5) I am confident of this: that the one who began a good work in Me will bring it to completion! (Phil 1:6) Therefore if I be in Christ I am new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new (2Cor 5:17) He will keep ME in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him (Isa 26:3) I trust the Lord with all MY heart and will not lean not to MY own understanding. In all MY ways I will acknowledge Him and He shall direct MY paths. (Prov 3:5-6) I cast MY burden on the Lord and He will sustain ME; He will never permit the righteous to be moved. (Psa 55:22) Neither death nor life nor angels, nor pricipalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, not any other creaature, shall be able to separate ME from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 8:38,39) The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psa 27:1) All the reassurance you need is in the book that He wrote for YOU! prayon |

1293 | sin unto death | 1 John 5:16 | prayon | 50993
Greetings new creature, 1John was not written to any particular person or church. It was sent as a pastorial letter to several Gentile congregations as well as all believers everywhere. It was written by John about 85-90 AD. Commentators differ widely in their thoughts whether this is a spiritual or physical death. The contrst to the phrase "there is sin leading to death" with "there is sin not leading to death" signifies that the writer distinguishes between sins that lead to a physical death and those that do not. That is not to identify a certain kind of mortal or not mortal sin, but to say not all sins are so judged by God. John, in this verse, was refering to those who had left the Christian fellowship and joined the antichrists. This situation, I believe, refers to the spiritual death since once they went against Christ they had lost their way to salvation. I could not find any conclusive evidence whether the "brother" is a believer or not. However, I believe that it is refering to a believer since we are told to watch over our brothers in Matt., (Sorry couldn't fnd the verse). There are a number of interpretations of what "sin unto death" means. The most common view is that which sees the sin unto death as the sin of a Christian which results in physical death rather than spiritual death. (1Cor 11:30). Sin unto death" could be any premeditated and unconfessed sin that causes the Lord to determine to end a believer's life. It is not one particular sin like lying or homosexuality, but whatever sin is the final one in the tolerance of God. Failure to repent of and forsake sin may eventually lead to physical death as judgement of God(Acts5:1-11; 1Cor 5:5;11:30). As for you last question I will leave that to someone else - I have no idea... (ref: Life Appl Bible; MacArthur Study Bible; Everyman's Bible Commentary) prayon |

1294 | Why the dispute? | Jude 1:9 | prayon | 8989
What was the dispute over Moses' body between Michael and Satan?
1295 | Why the dispute? | Jude 1:9 | prayon | 9024
The body of some commentators view the body of Moses as symbolic, the body of Moses "being intended to represent the Mosiac law and institutions" (Zech 3:1), in the same manner in which modern Christians call the church "the body of Christ". Some also say in the Hebrew books that Satan disputed the burial, claiming the body because of the blood of the Egyptian who Moses slew, and because of the leaders sin at Meribah (Ex 17:5-6, Num 20:5, 8-9). prayon
1296 | Jude 1:9 and Zec 3:2 | Jude 1:9 | prayon | 104532
yes it does. Jude is telling here how Michael deferred to the ultimate sovereign power of the Lord. He followed the example of given in Zech 3:2 which gave the illustration of how Christians are to deal with Satan and demons. prayon

Jesus Christ refered to the faithful church as his bride in the New Testament. The Old Testament prophets (including John the Baptist), the tribulation martyrs, and the hosts of Heaven are the guests of the bridegroom. |

1299 | What are the seven seals? | Revelation | prayon | 1419
Paul in his vision on the island of Patmos states that he "saw in the right hand of the one seated on the throne a scroll written on the inside and on the back it was sealed with seven seals." (Rev 5:1) The seven seals were all forms of judgement and are the first of three seven-part judgements. Each seal is opened by Christ and sets in motion the events that will an end to human history. The contents of the scroll reveal mans corrupt and perverted morals and show Gods authority over the events of human history. The seven seals contain the following: Seal 1: A white horse with the rider carrying a bow and a crown. It came out to conquer. Seal 2: A bright red horse - it's rider was allowed to take peace from the world. Seal 3: A black horse with the rider holding a pair of scales in its hand. The scale symbolizes a scarcity of food. Seal 4: A pale green horse, its rider's name was Death and Hades followed with him. They will kill 1/4 of the worlds population. Seal 5: Tells of the cries of the slain tribulation martyrs. They were each given a white robe and told to wait a little longer. Seal 6: Opening of this seal will produce a mighty earthquake, the moon will become red, the stars of the sky will fall, and the sun will darken. The sky will vanish and every mountain and island will be moved. Seal 7: There will be 1/2 hour pause before the judgement of the 7th seal. 7 trumpets were given to 7 angels standing before the throne. Another angel came and was given a great quantity of incense to offer with the prayers of the saints. Then the angel took the censer filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth and there was thunder, lightning and an earthquake. Seals 1-6 are found in Revelations 6, Seal 7 is found in Revelation 8. |

1300 | Please explain who the 144,000 are. | Revelation | prayon | 6916
There were 12,000 Jews who were sealed from each of the twelve tribes of the people of Isreal. They are Jews that are chosen or set aside by God either before the rapture or during the tribulation. It is interesting to note that 144,000 is 12 x 12 x 1000, symbolizing completeness. prayon
