121 | Is sanctification a joint effort? | Bible general Archive 1 | zach† | 34704
Benjamite; I enjoyed your response. I hope you don't mind if I ask another question or two. Do we surrender, submit , and yield ourselves to His molding influences? Can we refuse to daily submit to what He wants to accomplish in us and through us? Is surrender a once done act, or is it something which needs to be done daily? I would appreciate your sediments on this, because I believe it continues to relate to what we have been discussing. In Christ zach† |

Benjamite; Thank you for your response, and also for the scripture references. Can you, or anyone else reading this, go into anymore detail about the following part of my initial question? Can you provide any scripture references to answer this? Is sanctification entirely a work of God, or does the believer have to co-operate in the sanctification process? In Christ zach† |

Lionstrong I welcome all honest inquiries and discussions on this topic, not expecting others to agree with my position, even though I believe I have scriptural support for the topics I discuss. I believe ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God. 2 Tim. 3:16. Not just the verses I pick and choose. And I know and believe you feel the same way also. Thank you In Christ zach† |

126 | Is Limited Atonement Bibical? | NT general Archive 1 | zach† | 34568
Joe! Neither do I believe in universalism. However I do believe that in the verses i cited, all means all in these verses. And of course whenever the terms particular redemption or limited atonement is mentioned we then are given a denominations particular slant on Scripture. It is my person opinion that denominations divide, but Christ unites. Doctrinal difference between the various sects have existed as early in my reading since 1 Cor. Chapter 1 where Paul states: 1Co 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? (KJV) one says I'm Methodist, another says I'm Reformed, still another says I'm Pentecostal, was Christ divided, or were you baptized in the name of Calvin, or Wesley (my paraphrase of 1 Cor.1:12-13) (The zach paraphrase of 1 Cor. 1:12-13) I don't expect you to adopt my interpretation for your own, we can discuss it, and yet disagree. But just so you know, I cannot agree with the 5 points of Calvinism,. It's not that I haven't studied them in detail, I just find too much scripture that goes against that teaching. Please don't ask me which scripture. I have discussed this too often in the past with too many of the Reformed faith and have always found these discussions to be unproductive and unfruitful. And yes I do know all the verses they use to support what they believe. I have seen them all many times, and have considered each one of them without excluding any of them. I don't say that to be mean, or disrespectful but just to be open and honest. In Christ zach† |

Brother Tim: I am relatively new to this forum and was reading some of your past posts which I find to be very Bibically based. Concerning this post and the mention of the lost Book of Jasher, I have found this site which has the entire work and also warns of false versions of the same book. I have been cautiously reading this non-Cannonized book, and find it very interesting to say the least. I don't see where any poetry can be found in it. But then again I am only about half-way through reading it. Maybe you could check it out at the following web-site address http://www.ccel.org/a/anonymous/jasher/home.html If you ever get the time to look into it please let me know your thoughts concerning this find. I just thought seeing how I initially asked this question, I would jump in here somewhere to add a few notes I compiled on this subject: I tend to side with Tim Moran's thoughts on this topic. So let me post the following for you viewing and feedback if I may. John 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. ( the Greek word "pas" is used for the word "every" in this verse, it is the same Greek word used for "all" in 2 Cor. 5:15 “he died for all” and all in my undersatnding NEVER, NEVER, EVER means some or a few. ) The above verse makes it plain that Jesus the true Light, lighteth what? Some men? Most men? No! Take a look at what the verse says. It says: HE LIGHTETH EVERY MAN THAT COMES INTO THE WORLD!!! Now does EVERY MAN mean EVERY MAN, or does it mean some men. 2 Corinthians 5:15 says: "he died for "all" If you look the word "all" up in the Greek as is used in this verse, and other verses, you find the word "pas" is used. The Greek word "pas" means, all, every, all men, everyone, whole, all manner of, everything, any, whosoever, anything, all things, each. So if I were to follow the logic of Reformed thinking that only some are saved and others are not, I would look to other verses using the Greek word "pas" and see if I can repalce it with the word "some or elect." Here are a few other verses in which the word "all" is found and in EACH and EVERY instance the Greek word used is "pas" which I gave a definition for above. Mt 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. (try replacing the word "all" here with the word "some", it doesn't work) Rom. 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (now I think you will really find it difficult to replace the word "all" in this verse with the word "some" ) Gal. 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, ( agian it would be disasterous to replace the word "all" in this verse with "some" ) 1 Cor. 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. (try substituting the word "all" as found here with the word "some." It can't be done) Heb 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. (can you substitute the words "some of these" for the words "These all" found here without making Scripture false? ) 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (finally do you believe you can substitute or replace the word "all" as found in this verse with the word "some") In each of the above verses the same Greek word "pas" is used, so to replace it in one verse would mean you have to replace it in all these verses. This is one of many very good reasons why I believe "Limited Atonement" is unBibical. The Term "Limited Atonement" Really Means Limited Love, Limited Grace of God, and So Slanders God, and Is Unscriptural First John 2:2 plainly says, "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and NOT FOR OURS ONLY, BUT ALSO FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD." No limited atonement there! |

133 | predestination - free will or God | John | zach† | 34516
-Joe! you asked: "the question the Reformed theologian will ask is "Who wills to come to the water freely?" The answer I would give to those of any faith is: Unless God by His supernatural power awakens the individual out of his/her state of spiritual deadness, no individual is able to come. BUT, once God illuminates and awakens the person, then that person has been enabled to come, because the will of the inividual has been restored by God from it's fallen state. Without God, no one can come. God truly is the author of our faith. In Christ zach† |

-Joe! I agree with you on much of what you stated. I believe that is a misunderstanding of our part to try to convey to each other what we really mean doctrinally when we discuss theological issues. First, I am not an Arminian, although those of the Reformed faith accuse me of being so. I am an ex-Calvinist who after many years of careful study of God's word could no longer accept all the teachings of Calvinism, especially the teaching of Limited Atonement which I personally find to be unBibical. I simply prefer to be called a Christian ... a follower of Christ Jesus my Savior and Lord. I prefer not to be labeled a follower of mortal men like Calvin, Arminius, Luther, Wesley, Spurgeon, etc. etc. I say this to help you better understand where I am coming from. I agree 100 percent with your following statements in your post. "man's inability and unwillingness to come to Christ unless persuaded to do so by the Holy Spirit. Those persuaded to do so will willingly embrace Him, and those not persuaded to do so will willingly reject Him. Our wills are constrained by our nature, and our sinful natures must be changed supernaturally" "We do have free will, and our depraved nature makes us want nothing but sin (Romans 3:10-18). Until God changes us, that is all we will ever want, and we are unable to want anything else" "Effectual calling is the work of God's Spirit, whereby, convincing us of our sin and misery, enlightening our minds in the knowledge of Christ, and renewing our will, he doth persuade and enable us to embrace Jesus Christ, freely offered to us in the gospel." ", it is God who enlightens our minds (not us), God who enables us to embrace Christ (not us), and God who renews our wills (which were previously contrained by our fallen, depraved natures), and God who persuades us to trust in Christ (we trust, but it is God who must persuade us to do so" Just so you know I am not in total disagreement with you. 135 | what does Hebrews 6v4-6 mean? | Heb 6:4 | zach† | 34486
Makarios † Greetings I am a new comer to this forum and came across your post on Heb 6:4-6 and felt compelled to post a comment concerning "The hypothetical spiritual experiences" that were mentioned in the commentaries you posted. So I hope I wasn't being too rude butting in here to add a commentary on the subject. I just feel that when other new-comers eventually join this forum, they too will want to do a study on this subject from all viewpoints to be able to sort out their own thoughts on this difficult text. Lionstrong; Rather than get into a heated debate with you on this subject, because God has called us to peace, I will leave off this subject with you. I have posted scripture ONLY, in a reply to etta, and you said my view was unBibical. Now I have posted the comments of Mr. A.W. Tozer, a man most of the Evangelical Christian world considered a godly man, who went home to be with the Lord in 1963. But even this man of the faith's words you have called Arminian hogwash. So if Scripture is unBibical to you, and great men of the faith are considered inferior to your thinking then my appeal on this subject has come to a halt] In Christ zach† |

Lionstrong; "The Bible is the revelation of an infinite mind that presents all sides of the truth ... We are not to try to explain away the clear teaching of the Word of God as to the sovereignty of God on the one hand, nor the clear teaching of the Word of God as to the freedom of the human will on the other hand." (Dr. R.A. Torrey: The Importance and Value of Proper Bible Study). All offers of salvation in the NT are directed to the will, of the being that has been made alive at the time of regeneration All men are invited to accept the salvation that God has provided in Jesus Christ. “Whosoevr will” (Rev. 22:17) means just what it says (Dr. Harry A. Ironside) Rev. 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Lets dig into that verse… 1. the Spirit calls us to “come” (that’s the Spirit’s invitation, He inititates the whole salvation process, not we) 2. those that hear call back in response “Come” (come into my heart Lord Jesus) 3. let those who are thristy come 4. “whosoever will” let him take the water of life freely (notice we must reach out and take what we have been invited to take, and that is the free gift of life. 5. “whosoever will” means whosoever will, and on the negative side of this it means whosoever won’t, nevertheless, the offer is extended to all. How can man be held accountable to God for his actions in judgment without freewill? Do those who die unbelivers get judged for something that they could not be responsible for? What kind of God would judge someone for his or her inability? Is it fair to send someone to hell for sins he was forced to commit having no freewill? John 5:40 And YE WILL NOT COME to me, that ye might have life. "the work of conversion is the response of the heart and mind to the conviction. the Spirit's work is to convict, but He never forces the person who is convicted to respond to conversion against his own will. Man is a free moral agent. He has the precious heritage of liberty, a gift from God, and the Holy Spirit of God respects that right. " (L. Strauss) "Whosoever believes shall be saved" John 3:16 (Not whosoever God makes a believer) |
