121 | Rahab righteous or not? | Josh 2:4 | Val | 214634
Dear Humility: Here are some facts about Rahab the harlot that I hope might help; One, Rahab trusted God Two, Rahab was a resident of Jericho Three, Rahab’s faith spared her and her family from death Four, Rahab did not perish with the disobedient Five, Rahab had faith in God and found approval by Him because of it Six, The two spies went to the house of a harlot in Jericho, Rahab Seven, In almost every passage about her she is referred to as Rahab the harlot, yet she was the great-great grandmother of King David and in the line of Christ. Eight, She had heard about the Lord and the great things He had done and realized Who He is – the God in heaven above and on earth beneath. Nine, She was justified by her works of faith; she hid the spies and asked to be spared when God gave them the victory over Jericho. Ten, Perhaps the reason she is called Rahab the harlot is to remind all who read about her that there is none so defiled that they cannot come to faith in the Lord. Eleven, The scripture does not condone her lying, ONLY the fact that she hid the spies. Twelve, She was a pagan living in a society that DID NOT have the laws of God. Thirteen, The people of Jericho still remember what they had heard about the Lord drying up the Red Sea when He led Israel out of Egypt forty years previous. Fourteen, they had also heard what Israel had done to the two Amorite kings on the other side of the Jordan, very recently at that point in time. Fifteen, Their hearts had melted, and no courage remained in any man because of Israel, actually because of the God of Israel; that was the report of the two spies when they returned to Joshua. Sixteen, Rahab had secured a pledge of safety for herself and her father’s household before the spies left her. Seventeen, Rahab told them what to do to return safely to the camp of Israel. Eighteen, Rahab tied the scarlet cord in the window of her house on the wall as soon as they left, even though she knew the defeat of Jericho would not be for at least 3 more days. Nineteen, Rahab knew that Jericho would fall to Israel, and she did not perish with the disobedient. Twenty, Rahab knew of the Lord because she heard about what He had done. Sincerely, Val |

123 | Ruth2 y did Boaz redeem Ruth not Naomi? | Ruth 3:9 | Val | 200161
Also Naomi was too old to have any more children and she was depressed because of the loss of the men - her husband and sons. So Ruth took care of her and would not leave her. She went out and brought food back. This is how she met Boaz. So when she told Naomi about Boaz's kindness, Naomi instructed her what to do. Boaz and Ruth were the parents of Obed, Obed was the father of Jesse, Jesse was the father of David, David's line led down to the virgin Mary who was the mother of our Lord Jesus. One of the interesting things I learned when I studied Ruth is that the Lord is our Kinsman Redeemer. Not only was He the Kinsman Redeemer for the Jews but also for the gentiles as well as Ruth was a gentile. Interesting isn't it? Blessings -Val
124 | 1 samuel | 1 Samuel | Val | 197841
1 Sam 25:39 When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, "Blessed be the LORD, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal and has kept back His servant from evil. The LORD has also returned the evildoing of Nabal on his own head." Then David sent a proposal to Abigail, to take her as his wife.
125 | 1 samule | 1 Samuel | Val | 197842
1 Sam 25:27 "Now let this gift which your maidservant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who accompany my lord. 1 Sam 25:28 "Please forgive the transgression of your maidservant; for the LORD will certainly make for my lord an enduring house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the LORD, and evil will not be found in you all your days. 1 Sam 25:29 "Should anyone rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, then the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living with the LORD your God; but the lives of your enemies He will sling out as from the hollow of a sling. 1 Sam 25:30 "And when the LORD does for my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and appoints you ruler over Israel, 1 Sam 25:31 this will not cause grief or a troubled heart to my lord, both by having shed blood without cause and by my lord having avenged himself. When the LORD deals well with my lord, then remember your maidservant." 1 Sam 25:32 Then David said to Abigail, "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me, 1 Sam 25:33 and blessed be your discernment, and blessed be you, who have kept me this day from bloodshed and from avenging myself by my own hand. 1 Sam 25:34 "Nevertheless, as the LORD God of Israel lives, who has restrained me from harming you, unless you had come quickly to meet me, surely there would not have been left to Nabal until the morning light as much as one male." 1 Sam 25:35 So David received from her hand what she had brought him and said to her, "Go up to your house in peace. See, I have listened to you and granted your request." |

126 | Samuel serving where he shouldn | 1 Sam 1:1 | Val | 213373
Dear MJH; a good set of books is the Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the bible. They can be purchased for about 50-60 dollars and there are five volumes. I read up on the priesthood and found that the requirements given by Moses to Aaron and his sons may have been primarily while they were wandering in the wilderness. After Aaron's death the words Levites and priests became synomous. As Keily has already stated Samuel was from the priestly line. One good thing about these volumes is you can read each name and a desciption of them and their ancestors. Most valuable in my reading this topic is the following: Influence of OT priesthood on Christian Doctrine - The Levitical priesthood and the sacrifical system in which it operated, found their fulfillment and perfection in Christ. In the NT, Christ is the High Priest, Hebrews, Romans 3:25. He is the great High Priest, eternally one with the Father, Hebrew 1; identified with man in Incarnation, Hebrews 2:14-18; 4:15; 5:1, 8-10. He is the mediator of the new covenant 7:23-28; 8:6-13; 9:15, perfecting eternal redemption, 9:11-28; 10:11-18 and assuring His people of constant access to God 10:19-25. Moveover, all of God's people are priests in the NT 1 Peter 2:5, 9, Romans 12:1, Hebrews 13:15, Revelation 1:5. Two vital elements were transmitted to the NT teaching: the doctrine of priestly mediation and the priestly hierarachy. The Epistle to the Hebrews builds on the teaching of the effectual high priesthood of Christ. Ministry in the Church has replaced the ancient God-ordained hierarchy. - C. L. Feinberg Sincerely, Val |

127 | Where the priest impatient and greedy? | 1 Sam 2:13 | Val | 206118
Eli's sons were interrupting the priests in their offering to the Lord. They were not to take the meat until the priest had prepared the fat for the Lord. By their doing this, they were eating the fat. A word study on "fat" shows it was to be the Lord's part. A reading of Lev. 10:1-7 shows how serious offense this was. In essence the behavior was not regarding the Lord as Holy. A reading of 1 Samuel 2:29-36 shows the Lord confronting Eli about this situation. It seems Eli may have been eating the fat as well because he was very fat. For this he and his sons were told what their judgement would be and again in 1 Sam. 3:13. 1 Sam 3:13 "For I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them. What they were doing poking the fork in the pot was taking the fat which was the Lord's. They were taking the meat from the pot. The Lord gives instructions and if those instructions are not followed there are consequences. This same truth applies today. God judges sin. Eli failed by not rebuking his sons. As a consequence his sons die on the same day and Eli falls and dies when he hears the news. The ark is taken by Israel's enemies thus the whole nation suffers. 1 Sam 4:15 Now Eli was ninety-eight years old, and his eyes were set so that he could not see. 1 Sam 4:16 The man said to Eli, "I am the one who came from the battle line. Indeed, I escaped from the battle line today." And he said, "How did things go, my son?" 1 Sam 4:17 Then the one who brought the news replied, "Israel has fled before the Philistines and there has also been a great slaughter among the people, and your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been taken." 1 Sam 4:18 When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell off the seat backward beside the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for he was old and heavy. Thus he judged Israel forty years. Blessings, Val |

128 | What are the lessons to learn from Joshu | 1 Sam 9:1 | Val | 196944
Joshua and Caleb believed God and were not afraid of the people in the land. They were allowed to enter. Many died in the wilderness because of their unbelief. Num 14:6 Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; Num 14:7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, saying, "The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. Num 14:8 "If the LORD is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us--a land which flows with milk and honey. Num 32:11 'None of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob; for they did not follow Me fully, Num 32:12 except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have followed the LORD fully.' Num 32:13 "So the LORD'S anger burned against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the entire generation of those who had done evil in the sight of the LORD was destroyed. |

129 | putting forth their hand? | 1 Sam 24:12 | Val | 194029
1 Sam 24:12 "May the LORD judge between you and me, and may the LORD avenge me on you; but my hand shall not be against you. The short answer is that David sought to please the Lord. Saul was unreasonable and suspicious of David and tormented him to the point of trying to kill him. David on many occasions had been spared from Saul's men by the Lord. I am sure he was frustrated with Saul and on more than one occasion could have ended Saul's life. He chose rather to leave it to the Lord. As an application to our lives today, if we continually seek to please the Lord He will vindicate us of lies and slander against us if we like David leave it to the Lord. We must always be in constant prayer and walk in faith through the power of the Holy Spirit. Staying close to our Lord in daily bible reading and prayer is the best defense. |

131 | why God reprents for making saul as king | 2 Sam 1:1 | Val | 209071
In the book of 2 Samuel the account is given of the relationship of Saul and the Lord as well as Saul and the Lord's prophet Samuel. The Lord gave Saul instructions through His prophet Samuel. Saul did not wait on Samuel but went ahead and offered sacrifices. The Lord gave Saul another chance and gave him instructions concerning the evil King Agag. Saul did not obey the Lord. This time the Lord torn the kingdom from Saul. All of this was revealed to Saul through the prophet Samuel. Samuel loved Saul and mourned this fact. The Lord had to prompt Samuel to move ahead. The message for us may be that we must keep moving forward. Things do not always turn out the way we want them and people may disappoint us by their disobedience to the Lord. It is our personal responsibility to obey the Lord.
132 | Throne of his father, David??? | 2 Sam 7:12 | Val | 214186
It is a fulfillment of the promise made to King David. 2 Sam 7:12 "When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom. Something that will help you in answering your questions is to look at the cross references for the particular verse in question. They will shed light on the verse in question. Scripture is the best interpreter of scripture. Sincerely, Val |

134 | Is this about David or about Jesus? | 2 Sam 22:1 | Val | 231539
On the surface it may appear to be arrogant. However the Lord chose David specifically because of his heart's condition. David wrote most of the Psalms. In reading them we see that he was constantly praising the Lord, being thankful, adoring the Lord. I check the cross references in the margin of my bible when reading a passage. These will shed light on the context of the passage also showing if it is a prophecy about the Lord. There can be a near and far interpretation meaning there may be an immediate meaning.,i.e. Regarding David and a far interpretation meaning a future event, i.e. Regarding our Lord. Hope this helps.

None but the tribe of Judah followed the house of David. |

137 | Why God killed boys for teasing Elisha | 2 Kings | Val | 195951
A study of the prophet Elijah will give you great insight into what the spiritual climate was at this time. Elisha was chosen by God to be His prophet to succede Elijah. The timing was also important as it was close to this transition of prophets that this incident occurred. When the youths, as someone has already stated they were not minors as we consider children in our day and time, but they were young adults, when they began to mock Elisha they were challenging his authority and role as God's prophet. We must also consider that God sees people's hearts. This is something you and I nor any other human can see. When these young adults were mocking Elisha they were treading on thin ice. They were not only mocking Elisha but Elisha's God. They were undermining his authority as God's prophet. They brought judgment upon themselves in their attitudes and actions. Obviously it was a serious offense that brought them immediate judgment.

139 | why does Elisha need music to intercede | 2 Kin 3:15 | Val | 197478
Actually Elisha was upset with the kings. Jehoram did evil as you see from verses one, two and three of this chapter. It is believed that Elisha was upset with Jehoshaphat because he had accepted this invitation from Jehoram. Jehoshaphat did right in the eyes of the Lord. 1 Kin 22:43 He walked in all the way of Asa his father; he did not turn aside from it, doing right in the sight of the LORD. However, the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense on the high places. 1 Kin 22:44 Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel. Elisha and Jehoram were not on good terms. 2 Kin 3:13 Now Elisha said to the king of Israel, "What do I have to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother." Elisha interceded for them only because of Jehoshaphat. 2 Kin 3:14 Elisha said, "As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look at you nor see you. I believe the instrument helped to calm him and put him in the right attitude to intercede for them. Much can be learned from this action. Even when we mess up or get ourselves in trouble, the Lord still helps us when we turn to Him. In the inductive study method which I use a thorough study of those persons mentioned in a passage helps in observing the text. In this case a study of Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Elisha by looking up all the verses where they are mentioned in the bible and then making a list of what you learn about them helps to see the historical context and their relationship to God. Observing the text is vital to proper interpretation and application. May God bless you. |

140 | Was Elijah in the chariot in departure? | 2 Kin 6:17 | Val | 202516
Most drawings and pictures of this scene show Elijah in the chariot. You can find pictures of this scene on the net. While the text doesn't say he climbed in the chariot what we can be sure of is that these are God's messengers who brought Elijah safely to his final home. There are many miracles in Elisha's life and are so worth reading. I would put Elijah in the chariot for your muscial. Blessings, Val
