121 | why isnt all history in bible | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233369
Scripture is given so we have knowledge of our God and how to worship and serve him. It isn't given as a history book or even a science book. The Old Testament while providing a glimpse into ancient Jewish culture is laying the ground work for the coming Messiah Jesus Christ. The New Testament is detailed look at the Jesus life and ministry and creation of the early Christian church. In addition to those details the New Testment sets down the doctrines for the Church and give us guidelines of how to conduct our life as a follower of Christ. And of our required service to God. |

122 | Can someone explain God's favor to me? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233383
Why not talk directly to the person that told you this? The term "calling" is usually is used in terms of a call from God to you to some sort of ministry. Assuming this person is using the term "Calling" that way he is saying he sensed that God was calling you to a ministry. You responded that you had a similar feeling in your heart. What you need to do now is to pray and seek God's leading on this calling. But since you are a new Christian I would first ask you to talk to your pastor, or the person that prophesized over you to get more direction. Don't do anything rash or foolish at this point like quitting your job so you can go into ministry. Also you need to find out how God is calling you. Is it as a pastor, or a missionary, or Sunday School teacher, or perhaps as an usher. Many people mistakenly believe God is calling them to be pastors when in fact God wanted them to be Greeters or Ushers. Also if you are called to a ministry you will need to be really study the word. When you do that you will see how God calls men and women to his purpose and equips them for the task God has for them. Please before you do anything other than pray and study talk to your Pastor. |

123 | How long had Peter been dead when John | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233389
Which book of John are you talking about? John wrote a Gospel, 1,2,3 John and Revelations. Also we don't know the exact date of Peters death or when John wrote the books he did. Oct 13 64 is the date commonly used as the death of Peter's death. John's Gospel is thought to be written somewhere around 66-68 AD. 1 John was probably written in before 95AD and 2 and 3 John were around 90 AD. The Book of Revelations was written probably 95-96 AD but some theologians place the date as early as early as 64 AD. So you see John could have written some of his work before Peter's death or all of it after Peter's death. |

124 | Doing the will of God? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233396
Relationship. I find most questions like this are asked by people that have not yet established a relationship with God. To begin to build a relationship first requires our salvation, then we must read God's Word and lastly we must pray. When we pray we have to allow time to listen to God speaking to us. That requires patience and perserverance. But as we practice these we will begin to hear God speaking to us. When this happens we can begin our relationship with God. Once it is established we will know our Masters voice and we will know His will for us and where we are at in God's will. Many Christians fail to take the time to establish a relationship with God. They never really know God's will for them though they may sense His leading. God desires each one of us to be in a one on one relationship with Him and to know his will in our lives. It is hard to do in this rush rush world when such relationship building can take years of Bible reading and prayer. But the results are worth the effort. |

127 | if i saved and sin will i get to heaven | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233424
I think the real question that should be asked is why are you asking this question? Jesus said John 14:15 (NASB) 15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. We should be doing everything we can to do just that. Too many are more interested in trying to figure out how much they can get away with. |

131 | I'd appreciate some help. | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233482
I believe the earliest manuscript of 1 Cor 7 that we have is Papyrus 46 (Gregory Aland numbering) which is dated to around 175 to 225 AD as stated on Wikipedia. Most of the later translations NASB, ESV, and NLT use what is considered the most reliable translations. So I would worry less about the age of the manuscript and more about whether it is considered most reliable. |

133 | A devo topic that challenges you think | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 233502
May I also suggest a study on salvation. Many people simplify salvation in many ways but it isn't until we fully study Old Testament and in particular the Blood Covenant that we completely understand salvation. I have studied the Blood Covenant for years and I have found it to be a never ending process. Scripture's pages are literally filled with it. It is like the lyrics of the old hymn; "What can wash away my sin? nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow; No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus." Do that study and it will keep you busy and who knows you may even develop a relationship with God that allows you to hear His voice. |

If I may I would recommend to you to check out Lesson Maker from Wordsearch Bible software. https://www.wordsearchbible.com/products/15977 Basically you put in a Bible verse, chapter or book and Lesson maker generates a lesson plan. You then go through it and add and subtract things until you get to where you want it. Each lesson has basically four sections. "Open it", which offers suggestions for getting discussion started based on the lesson material "Explore it", highlights important points contained in the material being studied. "Get it", Ties the beginning discussion and important points together. "Apply it", invites open discussion on how to apply what was learned from the material studied in that lesson. Each section has a list of questions which you can pick and choose from. The main questions are hightlighted. The best part of it is that it can be used with any Bible translation. It works very well with the NASB from the owners of the forum. 137 | The Lord our God works through man, why? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 234093
That statement isn't always correct. First we don't know all that God is doing. Secondly a good part of the creation was performed by God before man was even created. I think what you are referring to is when God reveals himself to man, to allow man to see how he(man) would react and how God desires him to react. Man like Peter denies he would ever fail God. However it wasn't until God allowed Peter to be placed into position that Peter was able to see how in fact he would react. We often stand back and instead of placing ourselves in Peter's shoes we simply do what Peter first did deny we would ever fail. God then allows us to fail so we know we fall short of the glory of the Lord. Hopefully those lessons learned are not quickly forgotten and we have compassion on others and are mouldable in the hands of the Lord. |

Why do we assume all that God does is even known to man? Right now God could be doing an infinite number of things nd all without our slightest knowledge. Yes God often reveals to us His works through man but even that does not limit God. Example David slays Goliath with one well placed stone. Should we assume David was an excellent sling shooter or should we assume God supernaturally directed the stone to the exact place that would slay Goliath. Keeping in mind god will not share His glory with anyone. I believe God is limitless and is even limitless when he uses man to accomplish his goal. I think we mistakenly assume to know God's ways and God clears has told us His ways are not man's ways nor is man's ways God's ways. |
