81 | Do demons exist today? | Bible general | EdB | 243776
Coming from a Full Gospel background we believe demons do exist and that believers can and must cast them out should they manifest in another (unbeliever). But this must be done carefully and with full consideration of consequences. Matthew 12:43-45 is but one example of a possible consequence. As I said earlier I do not believe a Christian can be demon possessed but they can be oppressed and Ephesians 6 gives us proper remedy for that. Demon possession of a nonbeliever must be carefully dealt with. As we see in the Matthew 8 account and from Matt 12 account we see demon when cast out will look for a place to move to. If someone casts a demon out of an unsaved person that demon will try to get back in or go into another unsaved person nearby. I have seen over enthusiastic preachers in church services trying to cast out demons with no thought of where that demon if it did come out would go to. They never considered the unsaved in the audience; they just wanted to demonstrate THEIR ability to rule over demons. That was total nonsense and I’m sure the demons and Satan laughed. Before anyone messes with a demon they must make sure their house is in order, their prayer life will sustain them, that they have humbled themselves in fasting to the point they know that they know this is what the Lord their God would have them do. Demons are defeated and the blood of Jesus is the Passover Blood on the lintels of our lives. We do not need to fear them but we should not ignore them but I am not one to preach about them as I feel this gives them more press than they should have. |

82 | Bible Study? | Bible general | EdB | 243976
Welcome Douglas This forum is a Bible Study building a Study Bible. May I suggest you pick a Book, Chapter or verse and make a comment or ask a question and the Study of that chosen passage will begin. Remember since there is no designated moderator it will be up to you to keep the Study moving forward in a productive manner. Not to discourage you but the layout of the forum makes it very difficult to discuss most anything without controversy and bickering, but with God all things are possible. |

83 | Isn't it time to say good night? | Bible general | EdB | 244001
Justme I totally agree, once denominational agendas become common place true Bible Study stops. It is a sad to see since I was a charter member and at the inception of this forum everyone involved had very high hopes for the forum. We even tried to keep it free of denominational bickering by instituting rules. However they got cast to wind and we arrived to the place we find ourselves today. Sad indeed! |

In what translation? In the NASB Matthew 16:24 (NASB) 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. Matthew 24:4-6 (NASB) 4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. 6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. Luke 4:42-43 (NASB) 42 When day came, Jesus left and went to a secluded place; and the crowds were searching for Him, and came to Him and tried to keep Him from going away from them. 43 But He said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose." John 4:21-24 (NASB) 21 Jesus *said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 "You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 9:3-5 (NASB) 3 Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 "We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. 5 "While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world." John 12:23-26 (NASB) 23 And Jesus *answered them, saying, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 "He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal. 26 "If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him. John 4:21-24 (NASB) 21 Jesus *said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 "You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." |

87 | will suiside send you to hell | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 226040
Scripture does not speak of the eternal state of a person that commits suicide. Some firmly believe they are condemned to eternal damnation. Others believe that if they were saved they will be saved even after committing suicide. Two things I think about. First we can't know what takes place in the mind of someone that commits suicide and in particular their last moment. Is it possible they reached out to God? Secondly suicide to me is a sign of hopelessness. Can a person that is truly in Christ feel that much hopelessness? Shouldn't Christ Himself be hope enough to prevent suicide. I would never tell someone I was certain they could commit suicide and spend eternity in God's presence. Just as I would never tell the family of a suicide victim their loves was confined to eternal damanation. That is God's decision not mine. |

89 | where is Christ battling Satan in HELL | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 226243
Jesus didn't go to Hell(Hades) to battle Satan but to preach the "Good News" to the rigtheous dead that resided in Abraham's bosom or paradise. Eph 4:8 Hell (Hades) as seen in Luke 16:19-31 and through Jewish teaching is the holding place for the dead. The unrighteous go to a hot dry place to await judgement and the righteous before Christ went to place called Abraham's bosom or Paradise. Since Jesus' resurrection the righteous dead now go directly to heaven to be with the Lord 2 Cor. 5:6-8. Further Satan was never in Hell(Hades) nor does he have any desire to be there. The hot dry side is filled with the unrighteous dead that are already lost so Satan doesn't care about them at all. The teaching that Jesus went to Hell and fought Satan is a fanasty invented by people that haven't fully read their Bible and have no idea what Jesus' work on the cross really meant and more importantly what it accomplished. The idea that Satan is in charge of hell is an idea birthed in Islam which is a false religion. |

Theme: The Family Redeemer 2:20; 3:9, 12; 4:1-10 Lev 25:23-55 Num 35:9-34 Isa 59:20 Jer 32:6-15 Matt 20:28 Rom 3:24-25 Eph 1:7 Titus 2:14 Rev 5:9 In the book of Ruth, the phrase "family redeemer" has a specific, technical meaning. Elsewhere, the underlying Hebrew term goel is translated "nearest relative" Num 27:11; 35:19, 24. According to the law, family redeemers had three main responsibilities in Israel: 1. Leviticus 25:23-34 stipulates that if an Israelite became so poor that he had to sell his land, a family member was to pay off the debt so the land would remain in the family. If no relative could purchase the land and the seller was unable to buy it back, the land still reverted to the seller or his heirs in the Jubilee (fiftieth) Year. Two examples of family redeemers buying land for their relatives are Boaz (4:1-12) and Jeremiah (Jer 32:6-15). 2. Similarly, if an Israelite became so poor he had to sell himself into debt-slavery, a family redeemer was to buy his relative from service to a non-relative (Lev 25:35-55). The poor Israelite would payoff his debt by working for his relative, who could be expected to treat him better than a stranger would. 3. The family redeemer was to pursue justice for an Israelite killed by another's hand, under conditions described in Numbers 35:9-34. The concept of the family redeemer reminds us that God is the true owner of all things, and he commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves (Lev 19:18; Matt 22:39-40). The NT presents Jesus as the perfect family redeemer, buying us from the slavery to sin and death into which we had sold ourselves (Matt 20:28; Rom 3:24-25; Eph 1:7; Titus 2:14; Rev 5:9; cp. Exod 6:6; 15:13; Ps 130:8; Isa 44:22; 59:20; 63:9; Jer 31:11). In the spirit of the OT family redeemer (such as Boaz) and following the example of our great Redeemer, we, too, are commanded to act with love and compassion toward others (Lev 19:11-18; Matt 5:43-48; 19:19; 22:37-40; Rom 13:8-10; Gal 5:14; Jas 2:8-9).(NLTStudyBible) |

91 | How were farms set up at this time? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 226546
If you read the first five books of the Bible Genesis-Deuteronomy you will see that God gave The Children of Irsael the land of Israel. It was then divided by tribe and then by family we each family having a certain tract of land to build on farm and etc. In the Book of Ruth we see Ruth going to the land owned by Boaz to glean. |

92 | How long was the barley Harvest? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 226547
The length of time was determined by the actual amount of time it took to harvest the crop. In the days of Ruth the peoples lives were constant work. They were either preparing the field to plant, Actually planting, Tending the crops, harverting them or processing the crops (threahing and such) to get the food they grew. Each plant has a specific length of time for it to grow from seed until it could be picked and eaten. Of the grain crops I believe the Barley was harvested first then they moved to wheat and other grains to harvest them. |

93 | Are there any Prophets or Apostles today | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 226604
I don't think you are going to find in scripture anywhere, where it says the office of Apostles and prophets has ceased or is still in use. Eph 4:11 tell us these ministry gifts were given to equip the saints to do the work of the Lord. I think that work still exists so I think the offices still exist and function. If we look at the definition of Apostle we find they are "one sent forth as a messenger" I view them as people sent to people groups to tell of Jesus. And think there are Apostles today, missionaries that take the gospel to people groups around the world. As for prophets many see them as future tellers but if we look in scripture we see them more as those that God used to speak through. I think many times prophets and preachers can be interchanged as they are used today. As a preacher hopefully your message is birthed by the Holy Spirit, and as such it is God’s word for His people that you will be preaching to. So in that sense you are a prophet of God, telling God’s people what God desires them to hear. |

96 | Am I living as Christ would want me to? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 226967
I'm not sure what answers you are talking about or who gave them to you. But yes you seem to be on the right track. One thing I would add is develop a real relationship with God/Jesus through prayer. Taking time to still youself and listen to what God is speaking to you. Relationship is the most essential part of our walk with Christ and it is often the first and most overlooked. |

97 | Premarital sex-- did I make a mistake? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 227289
Please don't look for or take advice from people that aren't accountable to you and you to them. If you were raised in the church, go talk to your pastor. If you can't talk to him you must know someone that is a good Christian and that you feel comfortable to confide in. I know this is a hard subject and I'm sure you feel embarrassment even thinking about talking to someone but you need too. I have raised two daughters and I could tell you what I told them but you need and deserve so much more than that. You need someone you can count on to be there when the temptation or desire comes again. You need someone that be there for you to help you through this. You need accountability and someone that is accountable to you personally. |

98 | Can a marraige be saved after adultry? | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 228966
First I would admonish you to seek help at your local church rather than going to strangers that have absolutely no accountability to you for their answers. One question you need to think about, are you letting your guilt of what happened 5 years ago blind you to different problems today. God when he forgives us moves our sins as far away as the east is from the west. You said you asked for forgiveness and feel both your husband and God have forgiven you. Praise God now get pass them yourself and look at your marriage is there something else wrong? Again I urge you to go to someone you trust and seek help a public forum is not the place. Blessing to you and on your marriage |

if you go to the post and then scroll down the page you will see a tree of the thread. If you look to right most column in the header you will see a column marked abuse. Highlight the post you feel is abusive or they you have concerns about and then click the header. I believe that will create a report that someone will look at. Or you can response to the post and at right under the box where you put your answer you wil see a underlined place that says Report Abuse. Either method works I think. |

100 | Book of Enoch | Bible general Archive 4 | EdB | 232453
First the original Book of Enoch was lost. The present book by that title MAY be but PROBABLY not the original. Secondly the book carrying that title does not qualify itself by documenting the manuscript from which it was translated. It eludes to many things but most are unprovable. The earliest manuscript that claims to be the Book of Enoch are dated somewhere in the 1800's. So what we are left with is a "what if" book and I have to ask what is the point? My opinion you are better off spending the time reading the Bible. |
