Hello Nedra, No! And ask this person to show you where speaking in tongues saves us. The bible says obediance to the Gospel and the culminating act of baptism saves us 1 Peter 3:21 There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, I am sure she can not show such a scripture. Also read 1 Cor chapter 13 and 14. Chapter 13 says that tongues will cease along with other miracles when that which is perfect comes. That which is perfect is the bible. You see they needed signs and prophsey back then because they did not have the completed revelation of the bible. This is the only way God comunicates with us today is thru the bible. Not in a room with a bunch of people spitting out gibrish that nobody can understand. Read ch 14 also, this says that if the words which are spoken cannot be easily understood it profits no one and their just talking in the air. And verse 27-33 says that only 2 not more than 3 should speak in tongues and then only one at a time and even then there must be an interpreter or they are to keep silent. And theres not a single one of these people that claim they have the gift of tongues keeps this verse. They all start babeling at the same time and none of them knows what the other is saying, thus no one becomes edified like the bible says is the purpose and so they might as well just throw the bible out the door! Nobody today can speak in a different tongue. If they as they say have been touched by the Holy Spirit then why can they not speak in another language, one that we know about and not just baby talk. Because that is what speaking in a different tongue is. Read Acts 2, the Day of Pentacost. All the apostles were there and verse 5 says: "And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven" and 6-8 says: "6And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. 7Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?" So, I think that if you read these scriptures for yourself that you will be able better to understand that what she claims is just not true. Look at it this way, if she can do what she says then the bible is a fake. If I can be of more assistance please write. Raven |

Yes I give you a scripture that says that and I believe it because it is in the bible. I am sorry that you do not. Perhaps you should also read Mark 16:16 and John 3:1-5. Also remember John 14:15. And before you write back and give me Ephesians 2:8 to read, I have already read it and I believe that also. It is by the grace of God that He sent His only Son to die for our sins. But faith alone does not save us,its conditional. If I told you that you have won a million dollars but you got to come to me to recieve it, you dont have it until you do and that is fact. You can't see it, you can't spend it and you can't benefit from it unless you do as I say. Have you not read James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! and James 2 Faith Without Works Is Dead (1) 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 17Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Perhaps this is whay Jesus said: Mark 7:7 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' You can't dispute what the bible says no matter how hard you try. Picking and choosing certain scriptures to make a point. 2 Timothy 3 15and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. It says "ALL" scripture. But some want to take out and add want they want and you cant do that and expect to be saved! Revelation 22 A Warning 18 For[1] I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add[2] to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away[3] his part from the Book[4] of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Each of us has to put aside our feelings and submit to the Father and do his will. Matt 7:21 And the way to the Father is thru Jesus Christ John 14:6 The bible warns us but we have to read it and accept it. Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death Proverbs 28:26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered. Dear John, I hope you won't mind that I read your profile. I would like to know where the bible says that babys are lost or defiled from birth? And not this one: Romans 3 22even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all[1] who believe. For there is no difference; 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, for even it says those who believe. And we know that babys can not believe for they do not understand. The whole scheme of redemption is based on a person coming to the undserstanding that they are a sinner and therefore submiting to God thru Repentance, Confession and Baptism. And if for example we use this to prove yours and Calvin's point then this verse would seem to say that Heaven is full of sinners. Mark 10 Jesus Blesses Little Children (1) 13 Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." You see children are not held accountable for anything untill they are accountable for their actions and understand. Which is another question, where does the bible mention sprinkling babies when their born? The word baptize means to emerse. Nowhere is there a scripture that confirms this act on babies. I am sorry to offend you with my question. But it seemed like the original question Nedra had was answered. You wrote: (I don't see any mention of tongues, or baptism for that matter, in these or any other verse in scripture.) and I wrote: (Also read 1 Cor chapter 13 and 14. Chapter 13 says that tongues will cease along with other miracles when that which is perfect comes.) But you were the one my friend that ask: (Did you really mean to say that in addition to faith in Christ, we must be baptized before our salvation is recieved?) And in replying to that I looked at your profile because I thought it would help me to better understand where your question to me was coming from. If you didn't want anybody to read it you shouldn't have put it on there. I will be glad to look at Galatians with you. Give me a little time to write you back. Your friend in Christ, Raven |

Hello Cyclist, Yes, at this point Jesus was still alive on the cross, fully human and full diety. We cannot second guess what Jesus did in saving the thief on the cross beside him. For Jesus was able to look into the thiefs heart and see that he had repented for what he must have done to deserve being crucified plus would also have known that the thief believed Jesus was the Son of God and could save him if he wanted to. But this does not mean that only belief saves today. Jesus forgave many sins while He was ministering to the people. Matt 9:2, Lk 7:47-49 and Jn. 8:11 But the people needed signs to believe for they did not have the complete bible as we have today. Mark 16 20And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.[1] John 4:48 Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe." John 20 That You May Believe 30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. But remember Jesus has comanded baptism. Matthew 28 19Go therefore[1] and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Mark 16 16He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. We cannot second guess Jesus while He was with us on Earth. But now this is the way He has said for us to be saved. Remember John 14:15 And for the rest that had heard of John the Baptist and were baptised by him these still need to be re baptised into Christ. Acts 19 Paul at Ephesus Paul's Preaching Causes a Riot at Ephesus 1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." 3And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism." 4Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Hope this has helped Raven |

It is true that baptism without belief will not save. For why would a person be baptized if they believe not. Mark 16:16 says that he that does not believe will be condemed. It is not necessary to say "and not be baptized." And for death bed salvation, my answer would be that it is in Gods hands. But from the scripture we know that we must be baptized. Theres just no way around it. In Acts 8:35 when Philip was speaking to the eunuch it says "he preached Jesus to him" and when he understood and believed Philip baptized him. A person has a responsibility like the eunuch to find the truth and obey it before its to late. Please read the following scriptures. Mark 13 No One Knows the Day or Hour (6) 32 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. 34It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. 35Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming--in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning-- 36lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. 37And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!" Luke 17 The Coming of the Kingdom (3) 20 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, "The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21nor will they say, "See here!' or "See there!'[4] For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you." 22Then He said to the disciples, "The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23And they will say to you, "Look here!' or "Look there!'[5] Do not go after them or follow them. 24For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. 25But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. 26And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. 31"In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. 32Remember Lot's wife. 33Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left."[6] 37And they answered and said to Him, "Where, Lord?" So He said to them, "Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together." (To clarify the two men in one bead is speaking of sick men in a sick bed. The Greek word used for bed in this context actualy means sick bead. Informations is from the Strongs Concordance.) Your life is a vapor. Make the most of it while you can. James 4 Do Not Boast About Tomorrow 13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will[1] go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; 14whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that." To sum it up theres only to things to ask about a person after they die to know if they are saved. 1. Did they obey the Gospel? 2. Did they live a Christian life? Hope this helps. Why does the majority of the religous world deny the scriptures concerning baptism? When it is so clear that a person would have to be blind not to see it and read it. The entire bible centers around mans obediance to the will of God. Obediance, does this word give you a sick feeling? Is it hard for a person of your status to humble himself to be obedient to the word of God? Lets look at examples in the Old Testament first of obediance to Gods will. Gen 6 we read that God was sorry that He ever made man and was going to destroy them. But Noah verse 8 found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Noah was commanded to build an ark that would hold his family food and the animals 7 clean and 2 unclean. But Noah was also commanded to use only Gopher wood. And we should thank God that he did or we might not be here today. And so you know the rest of the story. But the key word obediance is specefied in verses 6:22, 7:5, 7:9 and 7:16. Noah did as God commanded. Moveing on to Moses briefly, the construction of the tabernacle was extremly intricate. From Exodus 25-Exodus 31 the patteren for the tabernacle and priesthood was established. And God told Moses in verse 25:9 according to all that I show you, just so you make it. And from Ch. 35-39 the priesthood clothes and tabernacle funiture was made. And in Ch.39 it says concerning the construction of the tabernacle and all that was in them, ten times, Moses did according to all that the Lord had commanded him. Obediance to God is the only way to show our belief. And obediance is demanded of us. You say that we are given our salvation by grace through faith. Eph 2:8 Well I submit to you that God give Jericho to Joshua and and the people of Israel, but they still had to march around the city once for six days and seven times on the seventh. Obediance to God is what give them this victory. You remember the story of Naaman? He was commander of the army of the king of Syria. It says he was a great and honorable man and a mighty man of valor, but a leper. He went to see Elisha to be cleansed of the leprosy. He was told by a mesenger to go an wash in the river Jordan seven times. But wanting to have his way instead of Gods way, he wanted to substitute the rivers Abanah and Pharpar. He was furious because on the way to see Elisha he already had it figured out in his mind how he would make him well. He said, "Behold I thought". And then something was said to him by his servants, "My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it?" So Naaman rethought his position, went and washed and was cleansed. We have to do as we are told when concerning the will of God. There can be no man made substitutions. Obediance to the will of God is the only way. By these few examples can you not see that we must do all that the Lord has commanded us. And it doesn't matter if it is only spoken one time. If it was not something that God did not want us to do or to know it wouldn't be in the bible. The sad thing about most denominational churches is according to their creed book one is saved by accepting or believing in Christ, nothing more, but to become a member of the their church they require baptism. Thus requiring more for one to become a member of their church than God requires of us to be saved! Its just not right! In Proverbs 14:12 we read: Proverbs 14 12There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. And if we look at the example of Nanab and Abihu we can see that only death can result in not doing as the Lord has commanded. Leviticus 10 2So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. Also Moses who struck the rock instead of speak to it was told he would not enter the promised land. Numbers 20 12Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them to be continued.... continued... Yes we must do all that the Lord has commanded including being baptised or as Jesus said we are worshiping Him in Vain! Matthew 15 9And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men And Jesus said, Mark 16 15And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned And that is exactly what the Apostles did on the Day of Pentacost. Verse 47 "And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." No matter how hard anyone trys to take baptism out of salvation you still can't do it. Baptism is the thorn in the side of denominationalism. It always has been and always will be. Jesus said John 15 18 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Just as God set up Laws in the Old Testement to live by the New Testment is our Law and its the only Law. No wonder Jesus said Matthew 7 13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Ok lets look at the conversion of Saul. And see what he did and must have been told to do. Acts 9 6So he, trembling and astonished, said, "Lord, what do You want me to do?" Then the Lord said to him, "Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do." 15But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name's sake." 17And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus,[2] who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." 18Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized. 19So when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus. Saul Preaches Christ 20 Immediately he preached the Christ[3] in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God. Now here we see that Saul(Paul) was baptised and went and preached the Christ. Another conversion was Lydia. The bible says, "The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. 15And when she and her household were baptized" The scripture you quote is very similar but you are twisting it a bit by not reading it in context. It says: "30And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" 31So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." 32Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized." Notice Paul it says they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. He and his family had to be preached to first so they would understand Jesus. Then the next scripture says: "33And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized" Now I might ask you the same question. Did Jesus make an inaccurate statment? Why did He say be baptized if it wasn't needed? I think you can see that one is no good without the other. In each of the above examples the word of God was preached resulting in baptism of the believer. It cannot be denied. Hello Steve, Here again is a prime example of not reading the entire measage of the Gospel. Picking and choosing that which we want to believe and throwing the the rest out. The bible also says this about faithful Abraham: Hebrews 11 (1) 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. It says that by faith Abraham "OBEYED" And on in to the same book it says: Hebrews 11 The Faith of the Patriarchs (1) 17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18of whom it was said, "In Isaac your seed shall be called,"[1] 19concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense. And this passage says Abraham "OFFERED UP ISAAC" Both passages show a "work of faith" and thats the kind of works we need! Not of somthing we can boast about as in Eph. 2:8. We must obey from the heart! Romans 6 17But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you "obeyed from the heart" that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. Yes Abraham was faithful but not faithful to the point of doing nothing. This next set of scripture says that Abraham was "justified by works". Faith working together with works faith is made perfect. James 2 Faith Without Works Is Dead (1) 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your[1] works, and I will show you my faith by my[2] works. 19You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! 20But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[3] 21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."[4] And he was called the friend of God. 24You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. Plese then tell me what language they are speaking? And what proof do you have that they are actualy speaking in a different language and not just making up nonsense? Remember Acts 2, this what they did. Its says that each man could understand in "his own" language. Is it the same ones everytime that do this? How do you know that they have not studied another language without your knowing and this is what they are speaking? And also as I have already showed you in 1 Cor 13 and 14 that tongues will cease along with other miracles when that which is perfect comes. So according to you the bible is not perfect or complete or even the last word when it comes to Gods word. I guess now God wants to add to his word or make an amendment to the bible thru these people who claim to speak in toungues? Please don't be fooled by these people. Read the bible for yourself and take it for the authoritative inspired word 2 Tim 3:15-17. It is the word of God and Malachi 3 says "For I am the LORD, I do not change". You can read it and understand it 2 Pet 1:20 says scripture is of no private interpretation and John 8:32 says you can know the truth. I can see by your response that what I said has struck a chord with you, but sometimes it takes getting ones feelings hurt so they can see that they are going down the wrong road. And I can only tell you what the bible says, and if this is in conflict with what you believe then maybe you should re-think your position. Galatians 1 Only One Gospel 6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. 10For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. Call to Apostleship (1) 11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. 12For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. Hello Tim, We have had discussions before and I have enjoyed them. I would like to say that 1 Cor. 13 does not say "the bible" is the "that which is perfect". But as you know this discussion is about speaking in toungues, and I think you would have to agree that this chapter says they will cease. It also says that prophecies will fail and knowledge will vanish away. But Paul who wrote this also said "And though I have the "gift of prophecy," and "understand all mysteries" and all knowledge,". Paul as well as the other apostles had these gifts and were able if they so choose to give these gifts to others in order to spread the gospel. But as we all will do some day they died. And if you read I am sure that you will find no place in the bible where provisions where made to allow these gifts to continue. Instead it says they will end. So what do we have to bring us to God? His word. We have the perfect complete inspired word of God in the bible. Interestingly enough Paul says in the book of Ephesians that when we read we can understand. Read what? The bible! The dispute is weather or not there are people who can speak in toungues. And the answer the bible gives is no. Unlike those people we read about in the bible who did not have the completed word, today we do and this how the Holy Spirit speaks to us, and thats the only way. Ephesians 3 The Mystery Revealed The Gentiles Are Fellow Heirs 1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles-- 2if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4BY WHICH, WHEN YOU READ, YOU MAY UNDERSTAND MY KNOWLEDGE IN THE MYSTERY OF CHRIST), 5which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. So if its not talking about the bible being "that which is perfect" then what do you think its talking about? Your friend in Christ, Raven |
