2 | does God chose who he will save | Eph 1:1 | hobbs | 185890 | ||
I believe it safe to say that the jailer's plea to Paul and Barnabus came from their sharing of the gospel with him. Thess 1:5 for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Rom 15:19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit; so that from Jerusalem and round about as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. It appears to me that the power of God is stressed in these foundational verses, and not a word about man's ability. Cor 4:3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, Hobbs |

Thanks for your thouhts NC, I agree with your conclusion from John 6:44 ..."Therefore this drawing should be classified as monergistic."... My question to you is: why do you see the the case of the jailer in a different light. It seems apparent to me that he had experienced the drawing of the Father as well. Brother Hobbs |

Thanks for asking John, My understanding of Election is based on Scripture alone. I remember well the first time, as a relatively new convert to Christ, reading Romans 9 for the first time. My initial reaction was astonishment! "What about John 3:16"! Did'nt John teach us that God loved the whole world, and that God wanted everyone to be saved? In other words, My reaction was typical, given I was a 20th century American who had been steeped in Democarcy his entire life. Therefore, I concluded that I was to immature to understand this seeming contradiction...and gave it little thought for quite a long time. But I continued to run into difficulties...such as ROM 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 11:7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. EPH 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will. 1CO 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ROM 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. EPH 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved). Have you ever wondered..."Why, Dear Lord did you save a rotten sinner like me?" Was it because I made the right decision that you chose me? Did that action of mine set me apart and make me eligible for Your Kingdom? A thousand times NO! It was by grace alone, through Faith alone in Christ alone, and to God alone be the Glory! Well I hopeI have given you some idea of why I believe in God's electing grace. Hobbs |

Thanks Jeff, I'll take your advice to heart. The archives reveal that subjects such as Election did indeed draw out the best and the worst in many of us. However, as of late, I have beeen pleasently surprised by the meekness which has been displayed between those who have been in disagereement. May it please God to continue to provide His grace to all of us. Hobbs |

Acts 16:31 They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." Hi John, Life is also a gift. But we had no right of refusal. Faith means we believe something to be true even if we can't use our 5 senses to prove it's validity. For instance...atomic structure... the screen we are looking at is composed of billions of these atoms. we can't see, feel, taste, hear or smell these atoms, but we belive the theory because of the scientific evidence. That is, we really and truly believe this theory. Now it is my contention that if either you or I were offered a million dollars to not belive that which we actually do beleive, we would fail every lie detector test given us! How much more is true of our belief in Jesus. If we have truly believed in Him! Belief and unbelief in Him can not be held at the same time in the heart. If you believe you are saved, if you don't believe you are lost. If you believe, you cannot not believe. Hobbs |

NoMark, I belive he was regenerate after having been presented with the Gospel by Peter. His fear of God and his exemplry behavior were manifestations of the grace of God in conelius' life. |

Hi Appollos, He may not have been regenerate, but he certainly was ELECT. Therefore he certainly would NOT have died prior to his regeneration. Hobbs |

Rom 9:22 What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? 2 Rom 9:23 And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, Hi Mark, I see the in the story of Cornelius, a lump of clay which is being prepared for Glory, and not a reprobate whom God is administering just enough grace to make a free will decision when the Gospel shall be presented to Him. which He prepared beforehand for glory, In other words Cornelius was one of those which were being "prepared beforehand for glory," That is He was one of God's elect. Drinking much wine (to the point of intoxication) is absolutely sin. However, if your conscience forbids any alchohol at all...even one glass of wine would be a sin. This topic has been widely discussed and you may find it profitable to explore the archives. It is a touchey topic, so...a word to the wise should be sufficient. hobbs |

Where would be without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit? Webster's defines inspration as: a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation. Of course, To God be the glory, but we recieve the joy of knowing that we have been used by Him to further the truth of the Gospel. Is't that why we get up in the morning? PS have you considered updating your profile? It's friendly thing to do. Hobbs |

I think it would be helpful for ust to return to the Topic, which Is PREDESTINATION. Acts 4:25 who by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David Your servant, said, 'WHY DID THE GENTILES RAGE, AND THE PEOPLES DEVISE FUTILE THINGS? Acts 4:26 'THE KINGS OF THE EARTH TOOK THEIR STAND, AND THE RULERS WERE GATHERED TOGETHER AGAINST THE LORD AND AGAINST HIS CHRIST.' Acts 4:27 "For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, Acts 4:28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose predestined to occur. Dear Edwin, You asked "But what about the four words that immediately precede your Scripture quotation, namely Rom 3:10" As it is written": Well..if it had'nt been written, it would'nt be Scripture. The fact that the verse is from the Old Testament is irrevelant. What is revalent is the context in which Paul brought his evidence. 2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; If Paul thought vers 4 meant that David was limiting the extent of man's wickedness, he would not have offered it as evidence. RE:POST!!! THIS TIME TO THE CORRECT PERSON (I hope) :-) Dear Stjohn, It is our love for God that spurs us on to know Him as He truly is. That is why we participate in forums such as BSF. I believe,that our love for God is reflected in our love for His truth. They are inseperable. 1 Pet 1:22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, That being said, I must admit my disappointment in your non-reponse to the passage I provided.
