Hello again Edwin, It is our love for God that spurs us on to know Him as He truly is. That is why we participate in forums such as BSF. I believe, that our love for God is reflected in our love for His truth. They are inseperable. 1 Pet 1:22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, That being said, I must admit my disappointment in your non-reponse to the passage I provided. Dear Edwin, Thanks for your reply. There is nothing more important than getting to the truth of God's Word. I heatily agree that Enoch, Noah and Job were men who desired to serve God. The question is: Did their desire for God emerge out of their own hearts or had they recieved these desires by the grace of God. From my reading of the Bible, I am firmly convinced that, apart from God's grace, Enoch would not have walked with God; Job would have taken his wife's advice and no one would have survived the flood! Now, why do I believe that what I have just said is true. Allow me to list just two verses for starts. Rom 3:10 as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; Rom 3:11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; Hobbs |

Matt 5:10 "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. What don't you understand Shreen? It seems to me a simple statement of spiritual fact and encouragement. Hobbs |

You have said, "You cannot choose God". If this is the case, then please explain, "choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve", as in the verse below? Jos 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." Are you suggesting that God speaking through Joshua is asking the people to do what God knows full well they cannot do? ------------------------------------------------- "If it seems evil to you to serve the Lord...". Funny, but I have never noticed the signifcance of that particular phrase until now! I wonder how many unsaved people today consider it "evil" to trust Christ? Would'nt it be astounding to hear such a statement used in the presetation of the Gospel! Joshua does'nt even attempt to persuade them otherwise. He just tells them ... "Worship whatever you will if you believe that God is not an appropriate object of your love and reverence. Me and mine believe that God is Holy and we will worship Him." The choice Joshua is offering the people (in v. 15) is a choice between two sets of pagan dieties. I don't see this as a firm foudation for the establishment of so-called "free-will". Hobbs |

Please do't take it personly John. I was simply laying down a scripturaly founded principle that I thought would give us all some scriptual meat to chew on. Do you think Romans 14 is applicable to our conversation? |

Do Not Pass Judgment on One Another 14:1 As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. 2 One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. 3 Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. 4 Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master [1] that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. 10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess [2] to God.” 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. |

Dear John, I don't believe that you counsel married couples who are past the age for having children to refrain from copulation. Would you? The delight of the marriage bed is well documented in Song Of Songs Song 1:1 The Song of Songs, which is Solomon's. Song 1:2 "May he kiss me with the kisses of his mouth! For your love is better than wine. Song 1:3 "Your oils have a pleasing fragrance, Your name is like purified oil; Therefore the maidens love you. Song 1:4 "Draw me after you and let us run together! The king has brought me into his chambers." "We will rejoice in you and be glad; We will extol your love more than wine. Rightly do they love you." |

I agree. If those He cast out had not love, neither had they the Holy Spirit. Rom 5:5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. |

30 | Do homosexual tendencys constitute sin? | Lev 20:13 | hobbs | 185132
Dear Louie, I think David sinned by not turning away from the window from which he happened upon Bathsheba bathing. He knew in his heart that what he was doing was breaking God's commandment. For God had said that it was a sin to covert thy neighbors wife. Once he had taken that first slippery step, it all was down hill for not only David but many others as well. Hobbs |

31 | Do homosexual tendencys constitute sin? | Lev 20:13 | hobbs | 185098
By the grace of God, we who seek to be obediant to the commands of Christ, have indeed "put to death" and are "putting to death" those earthly things of which Paul spoke of. But the battle will continue til Christ returns or we ourselves are laid to rest in the grave, our spirits departing to bliss in the presence of our Lord and King. To nurture sin is a sin in itself. I was told by a wise man "if you don't want to slip, stay away from slippery places :-) Hobbs |

I suppose that the reason for my addressing this issue was to remind myself and others of our own absolute reliance on the grace of God when temptation has us in it's grip. We all have expeienced it's powerful influence in one way or another. With our own painful experiences in mind, I pray that it will work meekness in our own hearts, and cause us to think twice before judging even the worst sins of others. Well...my dog is prancing about my chair and wants OUT!!! Later, Hobbs |

33 | Do homosexual tendencys constitute sin? | Lev 20:13 | hobbs | 185090
Thanks for your input Mark... The reason I posted my question is that I believe that certain sins are treated as especially egregious, not necessarily because the Bible sees them as such, but for politcal and cultural reasons. We all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. Therefore I believe it behooves us as christians to be meek and loving to all...keeping in mind that but for the grace of God...we might have found ourselves strugling against this terrible temptation. In my mind, Heterosexual sin is just as hard for most of us. Rom 2:1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. Hobbs |

36 | What is blocking us from God's love? | Rom 8:39 | hobbs | 181378
Rom 5:5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. I ,for one, do not love God to the degree and constancy that He is deserving of. However, I am not without hope. The verses which you used seem to put the burden of maintaining our relationship with Christ squarely on the shoulders of the believer. That is to say that our security in Christ depends on our ability to love Him as we ought. To me that mindset leads inevitably to salvation through works. |

37 | What is blocking us from God's love? | Rom 8:39 | hobbs | 181360
I believe the answer to your question may be found in the context of the chapter itself. True believers (those who believe and hold that the the Bible is the "WORD OF GOD"). 15:3 "You are already clean because of the word" ... True believers are those whom God has chosen... 15:16 "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain,...Branches cannot bear fruit if they are not connected to the vine! Therefore, Jesus is differentiating between true believers and those who merely profess themselves to be believers. |

38 | Does child die for fathers sin? | Bible general Archive 3 | hobbs | 174421
Welcome Lady! Although I understand your distress regarding the death of the infant, I must disagree with the paralells you drew that might show a pre-figureing of the child with birth and death of Christ. David's child was not sinless, but was born (as are all the decendents of Adam) bearing the stain of "original sin". God established His covenant with the people of Israel not it's king. David was not the federal head of the people as the first Adam was for all his seed. Christ, the 2nd and "Last Adam" is the federal head for all "His people" (spiritual seed). Our comfort comes from the knowledge that the death of this child was ordained by a loving God who always does that which is good in His sight. God Bless, Hobbs |
