1 | when was the devil kick out of heaven | Bible general | EdB | 239550
He has been. To be an accuser of the saints he still has to have access to heaven does he not? Revelation 12:9-11 (NASB) 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. 11 "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. |

2 | Be ye holy; for I am holy. | Bible general | EdB | 239603
Obviously a homework question, something assigned to you to help you grow in the Lord. Also you didn't provide us enough information that would enable us to fill in the blanks. Like what are you to be studying or what Book of the Bible are you now in. |

3 | Ecumenical Movement Avoid or Not? | Bible general | EdB | 239709
I don't know what the Pope or this Bishop was saying When they say the Reformation is over. I would assume they meant the reformation that was started in the Catholic church during the Reformation is over. In any case there is still the divide between Protestantism and Catholicism. But even that divide is changing as we see many crossing from Protestant to Catholic and Catholic to Protestant. There still remains definite differences in doctrine that some on both sides of the issue zero in on like drawing a line in the sand refuse to consider the other side of the issue. Jesus' prayer for the church was for the body of Christ to be in unity. So I believe God favors any attempt to reconcile the differences that now separate. |

4 | NASV translation accuracy | Bible general | EdB | 239733
Check out drwile.com and search for Logsdon or Lockman. A blog there includes a response identified as being from Lockman Foundation detailing Frank Logsdon’s involvement with the NASB Here is the supposed response from Lockman. The Board of Directors of The Lockman Foundation launched the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE translation work in the late 1950’s following the completion of the AMPLIFIED NEW TESTAMENT. Dr. S. Franklin Logsdon was acquainted with Dewey Lockman, president of The Lockman Foundation, prior to Mr. Lockman’s death in 1974. Mr. Logsdon was never a member of the Board of Directors, nor was he an employee of The Lockman Foundation. Mr. Logsdon had no authority to hire employees or translators for the Foundation, to set policy, to vote, to hold office, to incur expenses, etc. He cannot be considered cofounder of the NASB, nor part of The Lockman Foundation, nor part of the NASB translation team, nor did he write the forward of the NASB. According to our records, he was present at board meetings on two occasions, once to hear a travel report; and once to deliver an inspirational thought. Mr. Logsdon last wrote to Mr. Lockman in fall of 1973 that he was moving to Florida. Mr. Lockman replied that he was surprised and saddened by his decision to leave the area. Mr. Lockman passed away in January of 1974, and no further correspondence was exchanged between Frank Logsdon and The Lockman Foundation. He resided in Florida until his passing some years ago. |

These two words are basically interchangeable by raw definition. However a request could be seen as a pleading or asking. Tom requested he be forgiven. Where a petition is a more formal request. Tom petitioned the courts for his release. |

8 | belief in hell? | Bible general | EdB | 240069
Since an eternal hell or damnation is woven all through scripture how do you propose to eliminate it as established fact of Scripture? To remove any mention or to ignore the mention of an eternal Hell or damnation would require you to alter scripture and scripture itself speaks against that. To answer your question it would be impossible for a Christian to not believe in an eternal hell or damnation. |

9 | how many books excluded? | Bible general | EdB | 240206
Every book that isn't in it. That might appear to be a wise guy answer but it is the truth. The cannon of the Old and New Testament insured that only authentic and inspired were included. There are many books which could not be authenticated or were not considered inspired at the time the cannon was formed that were not included in the cannon. If you want a list of books that were thought to have some merit but weren't considered inspired look at the Apocrypha or Deuterocanonical books. As of late there are many books that try to lay claim to being lost books of the Bible. But none of them can be authenticated nor are the considered inspired of God. |

10 | How can I understand the Bible? | Bible general | EdB | 240239
When Jesus left us He said He would send us a teacher the Holy Spirit. And Jesus did! However we seldom allow the Holy Spirit to teach us. There are many excellent resources available to aid us in the study of scripture but the best and least used is the Holy Spirit. Before you start your study stop and take time to pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to quicken your senses, to open your understanding and to illuminate the truth God has for you in scripture. Then as you read take time to stop and reflect on what it is you just read, allowing the Holy Spirit to quicken you mind to points and truths you would have missed in the natural. Once you develop a working teaching/learning relationship you will have the best and greatest resource for understanding scripture there is, your own personal tutor the Holy Spirit. The truths of God will literally jump off the pages at you and will find yourself growing by leaps and bounds. |

11 | Satan's initial exit from Heaven. | Bible general | EdB | 240505
I'm not sure he was tossed out. He is the accuser of the saints to do that he has to have access to God. Also as you pointed out we see Job reporting to God and actually speaking directly to God. I believe Satan is constrained to his place in the heavenlies and does not have full run but scripture shows him to have access to God. However there are theologians that see Rev 12 has having double meaning (past and future), and tie it back to Luke 10:18 where Jesus said he saw Satan fall. |

13 | Why was Israel was called Jeshurun ? | Bible general | EdB | 240565
Jeshurun , in the Hebrew Bible, is a poetic name for Israel. Derived from root word meaning upright, just, straight. Jeshurun appears four times in the Hebrew Bible three times in Deuteronomy and once in Isaiah. It can mean the people of Israel (Deut. 32:15; 33:26), the Land of Israel (Deut. 33:5;), or the Patriarch Jacob (whom an Angel renamed Israel in Genesis 32:29) (Isa. 44:2). In the Midrash, Rabbi Berekiah in the name of Rabbi Simon interpreted Jeshurun to mean the Patriarch Israel. (Genesis Rabbah 77:1.) The word Jeshurun may have a relationship to the same root as the Hebrew word “upright,” “yesharim.” Numbers appears to use the word “upright,” “yesharim,” as a play on the word “Jeshurun” to refer to the people of Israel. (Num. 23:10.) Similarly, Rabbi Berekiah in the name of Rabbi Judah b. Rabbi Simon interpreted Jeshurun to mean “the noblest and best among you.” (Genesis Rabbah 77:1.) 14 | The real price of a Bible? | Bible general | EdB | 240582
I will answer this knowing full well I will be accused of many things. There is another side to the issue and that side has many reasons for doing what they did. One most people that could read through formal training were trained to read in Latin. So having a Latin Bible meant it was going to a greater audience than one written in native tongue. Most Bibles written outside of the Catholic church were written by people that had issue with the Catholic church and their bias often showed up in their Bibles. Manufacturing costs of the Bible were extremely high, therefore the Bible was very precious. However the peasant of the day saw only the paper which they needed for whatever they used paper for. Therefore the Bible had to be protected or it would be stolen for its paper. When the Gutenberg printing press was invented Bibles in various languages were produced and most were different from the Latin Translation. This caused confusion that never existed before and continues even today. People are constantly asking why does this Bible translation say this and that Bible translation doesn't. One last thing to consider. If you give the same translation of the Bible to 100 people and have them read various passages you will probably come up with a 100 different interpretations of the scripture. As evidenced by the number of Protestant denominations we have today based on different interpretations of scripture. Things like baptism with all it questions, infant or adult, in the name of Jesus only or in the name of God, the Son and Holy Spirit. Whether it requires immersion or simple sprinkling and etc. Even Luther later admitted that teaching that each man could decide for himself what the Bible said was a bad idea. He said something to effect that any man that thinks he can saddle a donkey now thinks himself a Biblical scholar and has his own theology. |

16 | Is cussing and premarital sex wrong or o | Bible general | EdB | 240650
corbinator01 hi and welcome to the forum. May I suggest you sit down and discuss these very real concerns with your pastor. Too many want to treat Christianity as a set of laws of things you can and can not do and truthfully that makes Christianity just another religion. Jesus gave us a model a pattern by which to live and as Paul says imitate me as I imitate Jesus. We are called to holiness and the desire to live righteous before the Lord is part of the salvation process. It is more than adhering to a set of rules it must be a life style. We are to avoid things that weaken our spiritual walk and we are to dwell on things that encourage and lift us up. We are to treat others as we want to be treated. Please sit down with your pastor ( and if you don't have one find one). I don't want to give you a list of do's and don'ts. The easiest way to answer your question is to say you can do this and you can't do that. I'm sure you can find people that will give you that list. But sin is more than just breaking the rule it is rebellion against God. We know what is right but we still want to do what is wrong and many people justify themselves or find someone that agrees with them that is okay. I think this is where you are at. You have questions and are seeking answers from people that will say yeah that is okay. Or build a complex legal justification, you can do this because you are not doing that and you aren't hurting this so it must be okay. Sit down talk to your pastor and let him teach you to seek your answers from God Himself. Read the Bible, don't read it to see what you can and can not do but read it to understand that God gave us the Bible to make our lives so much better when we live His way. |

17 | is it ok to drink wine and dance | Bible general | EdB | 240652
The topic of wine or alcohol usage has been discussed at length. Using the search box to the right search on alcohol or wine. Dancing is another question. Ask yourself if way and purpose of you dance is upright and righteous or is it seductive and suggestive. Basically if you were in the presence of a Holy God would you dance like that or not? |

18 | what bible version is accurate | Bible general | EdB | 240800
Bible translation is an art as much as it is a skill. No translation can be an exact word for word translation because many times the there isn't an equivalent word in the modern language. So translators must make decisions on which word or phrase best conveys the meaning of the original. NASB, KJV, NKJV, ESV are as close to the original as possible and basically read the same using slightly different Pronouns or sentence structure. All are reliable and can be trusted to convey the original language idea, meanings and precepts. |
