1 | Is the Bible filled with TRUTH? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 47887
Romans 16:17--"Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them." Dear Aggie, I would like to ask you a couple of questions about your new preacher: 1) Has he mentioned specifically where any errors exist? If so, where? 2) Which translation does he use? If it's the NIV, I would question his claims. I don't mean to sound "King James Only", but I have not read one valid defense of the NIV, however, other than "it's easier to read." I have not seen one plausible explanation for the many omissions, such as leaving out "which art in heaven" from Luke 11. Or why there is no mention of the Trinity. There are more, too many to post here. My dear sister in Christ, before you question your salvation, ask yourself these questions: --Do I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that He walked the earth in human form?(Romans 1:3) --Do I believe that He died on the cross for my sins(John 3:16), and was risen again on the third day?(Romans 10:9) --Do I believe that Jesus ALONE is my redeemer, and that He is of the Holy Trinity of the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost?(1 John 5:7) If you answered "yes" to all these questions, then you ARE saved. the bible translation you use will not keep you out of God's heavenly kingdom, anymore than it would get you in. If you are more comfortable with the King James, then that is the one you should use. It's the one I grew up on, and I understood it quite well, even at 8 yrs old. In closing, always remember "That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God"(I Cor.2:5), and"the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power."(I Cor.4:20) May God bless you and keep you 2nd Samuel 22:36-37 |

2 | What year did Jesus die? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51139
Greetings songbird!! Well, the best way to answer your question is this: We cannot be sure in this day what His exact dates of birth and death are, because of the many, many changes to the calender over the centuries. The closest I have heard is that He was born(bodily) in about 4 A.D. So assuming he lived(bodily) for about 33 years, I would say he died on the cross in about 37 A.D. 3 | books on how they lived and believed? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51359
Greetings Browser!! There are many, many books on the Apostles and their contemporaries. I do not know the exact titles, but one idea would be to go to Amazon.com or bn.com(Barnes and Noble's website) and type in the subject you are looking for. To make it easier, you may want to add the word "apostle" (if indeed they are one). That way, you don't come back with 8 billion titles/authors with the name Paul or Peter..:) May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

4 | interracial origins and marriage/child | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51363
Greetings consumedbythecall!! God does command the children of Israel not to marry(or give their children in marraige to) groups like the Canaanites, Amalekites, etc. BUT that is only because they worshipped other gods. If any of these people came to worship the LORD God of Abraham, then they could marry them. Take Boaz(a Jew) for example. He married a Moabitess(Ruth), who had accepted the LORD as God. She begat Obed, who begat Jesse, who begat David. Also, we learn in Numbers 12:1 that Moses himself had married an AEthiopian woman. ------------------------------------ Furthermore, consider this: Matt 19:17c but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." Matt 19:18b Then he said to Him, "Which ones?" Matt 19:19b YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."(NASB) [edited for space] Now, compare this passage with some verses from 1 John-- 1 John 2:4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and DOES NOT KEEP His commandments, is a LIAR, and the truth is NOT in him;...(NASB)[emphases mine] ------------------------------------ 1 John 2:9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. 1 John 2:10 The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 1 John 2:11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes. (NASB) We are commanded in Matthew 19(and Leviticus 19) to love our meighbor. So, according to I John 2, if we do not love our neighbor, we have not kept His commandments, and the truth is not in us. In my opinion(and I dare say the opinion of all in this forum), anyone who perverts Scripture to try to justify bigotry and hatred deserves whatever punishment the Judge has waiting for him. 5 | why can't a christian dink or dance | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 51475
Greetings ENS!! First off, I would like to commend you for your strength in resisting your peers' pressures on you to do something you do not feel comfortable doing. To add to the excellent posit offered by SSprln, I would offer the following: 1 Pet 2:13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 1 Pet 2:14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right In other words, God(through the Apostle Peter) is commanding us to obey the laws of the land.(I am assuming that you are in high school? If not, then I apologize) And in all 50 states, you must be 21 to drink alcohol(although there are some people well over 21 who should not drink at all. But I digress) So, you have Scripture on your side there. As far as dancing itself, no there is no biblical prohibiton as long as it is done in a dignified manner. However, when it is done in a lewd and lascivious manner, then it does become disgraceful. May the Grace of our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

6 | Church choirs? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52049
Dear Raven, James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him SING PSALMS.(KJV) Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with PSALMS AND HYMNS AND SPIRITUAL SONGS, SINGING with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Col 3:17 WHATEVER you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.(NASB) 1 Cor 14:15 What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also. Raven, you mentioned Malachi 3:6, how God never changes. This is true. And there may not be any SPECIFIC mention of choirs, all throughout Scripture we read about singing to the LORD. Look at the titles of so many of the Psalms. They are addressed "To the chief musician..." In Revelations, the angels and the 24 elders come before God with songs and harps. We are to love our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Singing, if it comes from the heart, is pleasing to God, whether one person or an entire choir. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

7 | Why do today's Jews reject Jesus? | OT general | 2ndSamuel22 | 45865
Amber, I hope I can shed some light on this subject. 1. The most obvious refutation of the erroneous argument that Jesus is not God is Psalm 110:1-4 1 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. 2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. 3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. 4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. This of course defines the holiness of Jesus. David himself states quite clearly that Jesus has been at the right hand of God, and that God would send Him to be His high priest. 2. As far as the humanness of Jesus, one could quote Isaiah ch.11. Matthew Henry wrote an excellent commentary on this chapter--http://www.blueletterbible.org/tmp_dir/comm_read/1019870856.html--about how Jesus would spring from the root of Jesse(note- in Mr. Henry's commentary, when he refers to "meanness", it refers to modesty, not wickedness.), or from an earthly lineage. I hope I've helped to shed some light on this subject, and maybe someone else can illuminate even further. He will 2nd Samuel 22:26-28 |

8 | compare Genesis with Deuteronomy | OT general | 2ndSamuel22 | 47889
Simeon's name is missing. Charles Ryrie and Matthew Henry put it this way: In the Septuagint, Simeon is included at the end of v.6, since his portion was within the border of Judah(see Joshua 19:9, then reference back to Gen.49:5-7). That is the only answer I can come up with right now; maybe someone else can assist. May God bless you and keep you. 2nd Samuel 22:36-37 |

9 | If Jesus became sin why is he in Heaven? | NT general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 45960
Hey DD. That is a very interesting question you pose. When they laid the cross down, and nailed Jesus to it, He became the "Lamb with no blemish",and all the sins of mankind were placed upon Him. When they raised Him up, He became the "priest forever in the order of Mechizedec"(Heb 7:17), lifting them up to God. After He died the risen Christ became the Firstborn of the resurrected(Col. 1:18--And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.) Another verse to refer to would be Hebrews 2:9--But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. So if we bear our own sins, without giving them to Jesus to take to the Father, then they will remain with us, unforgiven. But, if we take our self, allow it to be crucified with Christ(Gal 2:20), become a new creation through His righteousness(2 Cor 5:17), then His blood cleanses our soul(1 Tim 2:5), so we may enter His holy presence. 11 | Was Clopas Cleopas? | NT general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 49930
Greetings, songbird!! Yes, the Clopas in John(or, Cleophas in the KJV) is indeed the same as Cleopas in Luke 24. Why the different spellings, I do not know. As far as Simon, I believe that is also Peter. It may, however, be another of the apostles, Simon the Zealot. Peace be with you always!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

13 | Who was the mother of twelve sons? | Genesis | 2ndSamuel22 | 55443
Dear Angelface, If you mean, "who was the mother of JACOB'S twelve sons", the answer would be found in Genesis 35:23-26-- 23 The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun: 24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin: 25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali: 26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid: Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram. Not to sound mean or anything, but I too am beginning to wonder why all the questions? God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

14 | Who'd Be In Charge? | Gen 24:5 | 2ndSamuel22 | 47481
Greetings, Lionstrong. The issue is not whether Isaac was ready to take charge, but where Abraham did not want Isaac to go. Remember, God called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees("...the land from which you came", v.5), an area much like Canaan in that it was filled with sin. Therefore, Abraham did not want his son to take a wife from there(Gen.24:3), and made his servant swear an oath by God(v.2-3, v.9) to this effect. Many Old Testament passages are much different than those in the New Testament, in that the OT is made up chiefly of historical accounts, which cannot always be analyzed one verse at a time like the NT. I hope I have been able to help. He Will 2nd Samuel 22:26-28 |

15 | Sacrificing his daughter? | Judges | 2ndSamuel22 | 52189
Dear Cyclist, The passage you are looking for is in the Book of the Judges, chapter 11. It is the story of Jephthah(not to be confused with Japheth, son of Noah). Jephthah promised God that if He delivered the children of Ammon into his hand, he would offer the first living thing that greeted him when he got home. It just so happened that it was his daughter who came out to greet him. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

17 | Saul and David - knew him or not? | 1 Sam 17:56 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52466
Dear prayon, The key(as pointed out by the great Matthew Henry) is in I Samuel 17:15, which mentions David returning home to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem. Thus, Saul may not have even imagined that the lad would show up on the battlefield. Also, Saul probably did not think a boy of "fair countenance" who was "cunning on the harp" could defeat such a formidable foe as Goliath. Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

18 | 2 Kings 16 in our worship practices? | 2 Kin 16:11 | 2ndSamuel22 | 44971
How familiar does this sound: 2Kings16:7 So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son; come up and deliver me from the hand of the king of Aram and from the hand of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me." 16:8 Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king's house, and sent a present to the king of Assyria.(NASB) How many times today do we compromise our biblical principles so we don't sound "mean" or "intolerant". And how often do we affiliate ourselves with the unholy just so we can make our point, no matter how trivial it is? |

20 | Will God ever remember our sins even aft | Is 43:25 | 2ndSamuel22 | 49931
Greetings, Native!! Psalm 103:7-13-- Ps 103:8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. Ps 103:9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. Ps 103:10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. Ps 103:11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. Ps 103:12 AS FAR AS THE EAST IS FROM THE WEST, SO FAR HAS HE REMOVED OUR TRANSGRESSIONS FROM US. Ps 103:13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. Notice the emphasis on verse 12. Here's something I read that sheds further light on this verse: If you go far enough north, you will eventually start going south. BUT--if you start going west, you will ALWAYS be going west. This same rule applies if you start going east-you will ALWAYS go east. That is how far east is from west. "East is east and west is west, and never the twain shall meet"--Rudyard Kipling May the Peace of God abound in you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |
