Dear John, You stated "Faith is indeed a gift as it is specifically listed as one. And we can refuse a gift if we choose to. This to me is an axiom." I agree with you that Faith is a gift. But will you, please, demontrate from the Bible, that Faith is given to all men universally? Thanks, Hobbs |

Hi Hobbs! The Bible doesn't say that faith is given to all, i.e. saving faith that is, but we know that all are born with a conscience, and, I think it is easy to see, that that is the working of the holly spirit. I believe that all people are born with a conscience. This is part of what is known as general revelation, i.e. the heavens declare His glory. Unless you have a mental deficiency called sociopathy, i.e. the inability to think in terms of right and wrong, the fact is, that all people are born with a conscience. This is to most clear thinking theologians, a very clear evidence of the fact, that the Holly Spirit is in the world, and has influence over men. So, this gives all men the opportunity to choose good over evil, or evil over good. Satin influences people to do evil, God influences people to do good. This is what is called horse sense, or common sense. And, no, there is no clear reference in scripture that proves or disproves its existence. But we all know that common sense exists because we can see it. If you stick your hand in the fire, you will get burned! God Bless. John |

Hi John, My two cents worth... Sounds like you may be confusing common sense with moral values. Logically, if you stick "my" hand in the fire, you know that “I'll” get burned, common sense right? What is it that keeps you from wanting to put my hand in the fire? Common sense doesn't inform me that something is evil or bad, my moral values do. Common sense simply allows me to apply logic to determine a possible outcome. Moral values allow me to apply logic to prevent an undesirable outcome involving guilt or shame. Stand in His grace, WOS |

Good greetings WOS ! I think I can see your point. But, we can apply logic, to moral values, and make a decision, by using common sense. Or put it another way, it is logical to use our moral values to help us make a decision, and thats good common sense. Moral values are learned, and common sense is considered innate. I think that I probably didn't make myself too clear in my last post. Sometimes I think I'm doing really well, but when I read it again later I'm like... Huh? I hope this clears it up. As far as your two questions go: "Logically, if you stick "my" hand in the fire, you know that “I'll” get burned, common sense right?" yes. Common sense would tell us that is logical. "What is it that keeps you from wanting to put my hand in the fire?" I don't know you that well, maybe I do. ;-) Seriously tough....... I would certainly hope that my conscience would allow my moral values to help me make a decision not to. I wouldn't want that on my conscience. And thats good common sense. Also, it just wouldn't be very nice. Now would it? Good moral values make sense, good common sense. Hope that was worth 2-cents ;-) God Bless. John |
