Hi graceful, It is a mystery why God would die in our place. But I would have to agree with Radioman that we will not find in the Scriptures that He "became sin". I typed those words in the Search Bible Text here at the forum and it wasn't there. I didn't find it in my concordance anywhere. In looking at Psalm 22 right now, I reaffirm my choice of the NASB over the NKJ for that Psalm. The NKJ capitalizes the pronouns throughout, but when I consider verse 6 I can not agree with that interpretation. Psalm 22:6, "But I am a worm, and not a man,..." The NKJ does not capitalize "worm", and that is good, but that verse alone tells me that the main thrust of the Psalm is about David himself. And again, any forsakenness that Jesus would have felt would be that of a man [sic]. Psalm 22:19, "But Thou, O Lord, be not far off; O Thou my help, hasten to my assistance." John 8:55, "and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him;..." From the heart, Ray |

Ray, The verse that Jesus "became sin" 2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (KJV) 2 Cor. 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (NASB) But Gracefull is taking that verse WAY out of context. If Jesus actually "became sin" then He would have not been Holy, there for His claiom for being the I AM. For he is a never changing God. We do know that The sins were cast ON Jesus but the sin had no hold on Him thus the grave couldn't hold Him. Also as I look at that verse in the NASB the words to be are italized. (sp?). Even if it is to be sin you cannot take that literal because if sin is dead that would mean Jesus wasn't ressurected. Remember that the whole Hell theroy is based on a vision and a very few verses with out any verse backing up any of it. |

Hi DarcyA, Thank you for this verse in 2 Corinthians. I had read it today and had quoted the verse prior to it in one of my posts, but it didn't come to my mind when I was talking to graceful. An interesting verse to compare with 2 Corinthians 5:21 is Ephesians 2:15. In 2 Corinthians 5:21 we see the word "made" and in Ephesians 2:15 the word "make" or literally "create". So the idea of 2 Corinthians isn't that God FORCED or "made" Him to be sin on our behalf. We are reconciled to God because He was the fulfilment of the Law and sin comes from the Law. As the NASB says, "He has committed to us the word of reconciliation." 2 Corinthians 5:20, "be reconciled to God". Ephesians 2:15, NASB, alternate reading, "the enmity, by abolishing in His flesh the Law." Ephesians 2:15b, "...that in Himself He might make [create] the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,..." Ephesians 4:22, "that in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self [literally, man],...and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self [man], which in the likeness of God has been CREATED in righteousness and holiness of the truth."
