Hi Aixen7z4, Isaiah 59:2, "But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your (God), And your sins have..." 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man is in (Christ) he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." 2 Corinthians 5:20, "Therefore, we are ambassadors for (Christ),..." 2 Corinthians 6:1, "...we also urge you not to receive the grace of (God) in vain--" Hebrews 7:26, NKJ, "For such a High (Priest) was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless [innocent], undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests,..." Hebrews 7:22, "so much the more also (Jesus) has become the guarantee of a better covenant. And the former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers, because they were prevented by death from continuing, but He, on the other hand, because He abides forever, holds His priesthood permanently." Hebrews 8:6b, "...by as much as (He) is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises." Hebrews 9:15, "And for this reason (He) is the mediator of a new covenant, in order that since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it." Hebrews 9:28, "so (Christ) also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin,..." 1 Peter 2:24, "and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by (His) wounds you were healed. For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls." Isaiah 53:12b, "...Because He poured out (Himself) to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors." Isaiah 54:5, "For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the Lord of hosts. And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the (God) of all the earth. Isaiah 54:8b, "But with everlasting lovingkindness I will have compassion on you," Says the Lord your (Redeemer)." The parentheses of course are mine for comparisons of the verses. When I put these facts together, I see a holy God who was numbered with the transgressors and for a brief moment (see Isaiah 54:7) felt the forsaking that a man would feel. But He remained the Son of Man, even the Man crying out "My (God), My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?" Matthew 27:46. Matthew 27:47, NKJ,"Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, "This Man is calling for Elijah!" Matthew 27:49, NASB, "But the rest of them said, "Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him." Matthew 27:43, "He trusts in God; let (Him) deliver Him now, if He takes pleasure in Him; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" And the robbers also who had been crucified with Him were casting the same insult at (Him)." Hebrews 10:29, "How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the (Spirit) of grace?" Hi Ray... And in this statement lies the mystery! That God could become sin for us and be forsaken...Not whether He was forsaken or not. "I see a holy God who was numbered with the transgressors and for a brief moment (see Isaiah 54:7) felt the forsaking that a man would feel. But He remained the Son of Man, even the Man crying out "My (God), My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?" Matthew 27:46." God bless |

Hi graceful, It is a mystery why God would die in our place. But I would have to agree with Radioman that we will not find in the Scriptures that He "became sin". I typed those words in the Search Bible Text here at the forum and it wasn't there. I didn't find it in my concordance anywhere. In looking at Psalm 22 right now, I reaffirm my choice of the NASB over the NKJ for that Psalm. The NKJ capitalizes the pronouns throughout, but when I consider verse 6 I can not agree with that interpretation. Psalm 22:6, "But I am a worm, and not a man,..." The NKJ does not capitalize "worm", and that is good, but that verse alone tells me that the main thrust of the Psalm is about David himself. And again, any forsakenness that Jesus would have felt would be that of a man [sic]. Psalm 22:19, "But Thou, O Lord, be not far off; O Thou my help, hasten to my assistance." John 8:55, "and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him;..." From the heart, Ray |

This must be the verse to which graceful is referring, whether it supports her position is another questions altogether. 2 Cor 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. |
