Yes, you are right about the flesh being our biggest enemy, and Satan uses that. However, a lot of people don't even admit that Satan exists, and I guess I just wanted to make the point that it is Satan who places temptations before us, and they can be very subtle, so you have to be on guard against him and them. It would be foolish to ignore them. And, yes, if we submit to the flesh, we can stumble and fall. You are right about discerning good and evil. I am blessed because at my church, there is a true man of God in the pulpit who seeks God first and wants God to be in charge; he wants God's agenda. He just did a series of lessons on how the flesh is our biggest enemy and how Satan get the blame for probably more than he deserves. But, Satan is real and he is tempting us, and he is sly and deceitful. I don't know what you mean by people who live "in the rear" being the ones who are "bothered" by Satan. I disagree. I believe the stronger you are for God, the stronger your temptations are. Billy Graham, for example. He has probably had more attacks from Satan than you or I could even think of. It is how we handle those attacks that is key. Janae |

Janae You mentioned Billy Graham and while I don't pretend to speak for him, in his books he often attributes most of his attacks to fleshly origins and situations that he allowed to manifest. But your right logic dictates a man like Billy Graham has to be Satan's biggest target yet if you survey most church members you will hear them complain of Satan's attacks far more than you will hear Dr Graham complain of them. Does that make sense? It does when you understand people love to blame someone or something other themselves for their problems. Satan is often the scapgoat for their lack of walking in the word. Your right Satan is very real but as long as Christians blame him instead of placing the blame on their unconverted flesh Satan can sit back and let man's sin do his work. EdB |

EdB, That was a great post! Most of us Christians do place the blame for our actions on Satan and his never ending temptations. But, when we actually get beat down enough that the only way to overcome this situation is by looking up. And then we finally turn to God for help. We sometimes turn to God as a last resort when He should be our first and only option to repent and overcome the sin in our lives. This is Romans 8:1-8 (NASB). It is very comforting to me: 1 Therefore there is now no (1) condemnation for those who are (2) in (3) Christ Jesus. 2 For (4) the law of the Spirit of life in (5) Christ Jesus (6) has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For (7) what the Law could not do, (8) weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in (9) the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the (10) requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who (11) do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on (12) the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, (13) the things of the Spirit. 6 (14) For the mind set on the flesh is (15) death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is (16) hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are (17) in the flesh cannot please God.
