As I say: we all must read God's Word and draw the proper conclusion and then answer to God for that conclusion. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

Country Girl: Also, at this point I am not discussing conclusions or interpretations. I am discussing facts, i.e., where does it say that in the NT? At http://studylight.org I did a search in the King James Bible for the words "first" AND "day" AND "worship". It didn't show those three words together in the same verse. The search returned the following message: "Your query for 'first day worship' used in 'The King James Version (Authorized)' failed to return any results." Grace to you, kalos |

I must admit as you have mentioned, there is no such verse that states "Thou shalt worship on the first day of the week and not on the Sabbath." But then we do have several verses that do cite the first day of the week as I have stated and we do have thousands of years of history showing christians worshiping on Sunday as being that first day of the week. So what are to do? What guidance do we follow? As it's been mentioned many times on the Forum, according to my search just now, this topic has been discussed quite a bit. But suffice it to say that the NT is the current guide for christians in this age or dispensation as compared to the OT. God has given all authority to His Son as cited in Matt 28. When a person does that search for that phrase "first day of week," you can't help but notice that the first instance is at the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. It seems pretty clear to me that christians early on were motivated in this new age of Godliness, to give a special amount of glory and recognition to their Lord and Master which was endorsed by all the Apostles and by God Himself. Remember Jesus did delagate some of His authority to the Apostles to make basic and routine decisions to this degree. After taking another objective look at all the evidence, including the words of your posts and the statements you've made, I have to say that the bottom line is very clear. God is giving as much glory and honor as possible to His Son, thus it seems perfectly logical to give prominence to the day of worship being set on the same day as Jesus' resurrection in contrast to the Sabbath as established in the previous dispensation. Sometimes on issues of this magnitude with the few scriptures we're given, one has to make some decisions/determinations based on faith and respond to "What would God think?" I think he's pleased that the vast majority of christians throughout the world worship God the Father and His Son on Sunday. Maybe we should rename it Sonday. What do you think? Would you like to draft up such a proposal and submit a petition? I for one am willing to sign it. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

There is no verse in the Bible that says you are to worship God on the Sabbath or any other day. There is no set schedule to do anything in the Bible. I've posted this in this thread, but I will post it again: Galatians 4:8-11 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain. We think since we are told that Jesus rose on the first day of the week he rose on a Sunday. Can you look up in the sky(Genesis 1:14) and tell what day Sunday is? I can not, but I can count 14 days from the new moon after the vernal equinox(Exodus 12:2) and know Jesus died on the 14th day of the same month(Exodus 12:6) and that he rose 3 days and 3 nights after this.(Matthew 12:40) Here is an example of how we are to do things now: 1 Corinthians 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. We are not to take communion weekly, monthly, or annually. We are to take it as often as we would. There is no set schedule. Regarding the sabbath here is how we now rest, seeing that Jesus fulfilled, not abolished, but completed the law: Hebrews 4:1-10 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Praise the Lord! Norm |
