Brothers, please be careful not to condemn brothers who are preaching Jesus, and Him crucified. I believe they are sincere in their desire to expose the truth of faith in God's Word, and that God expects, nay, demands faith from all believers, in Him Heb. 11:16, and his word, John 14:23, 24 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. 253 John 14:24 "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me. So you see God does expect us to be creatures of faith, not of flesh, but therein lies the problem. Most "Christians", the true believers as well as the pretenders, are falling into the same trap that the early church suffered from. We have operated so long in the flesh that it's difficult for us to yield to our spirit, when God is trying to guide us by His Spirit. Furthermore, today's "Church" has been reduced to trying to explain and impart spiritual truths intellectually. Spiritual things are learned through spiritual experiences, not through academic proliferation. You do realize, of course, that there was no written New Testament for years and years after Jesus was taken back to heaven. The early believers operated in supernatural faith or we, you and I, would not have the bible in the form it is in today. It wasn't until men began translating the bible, an acedemic undertaking, that there were difficulties with understanding what God had said. If we spent more time in our fellowships helping people to understand the spiritual things there would be less arguing about things like having faith in faith as opposed to having faith in God. When you operate in the spirit, there is no need for translation. God imparts His will and wisdom and power through His Spirit to us when we meet Him spiritually, as opposed to intellectually. I am not advocating doing away with the written word, but rather placing it in it's proper perspective. I own an automobile. It came with a manufacturer's handbook that explains how everything works, and when I am ready to go somewhere, after having read the handbook, I get into the car and drive to my destination. I don't drive the handbook, it was merely the instruction book on how the vehicle functions, and that's what the bible is meant to be, a handbook on how to live in the sprit. Read the handbook, and go try out doing what it tells you to do. I assure you if you do that you will quickly become a proponent of believing God's word literally. Now I will concede that men are are just men and somtimes, who knows for what reason, God knows, they have a tendency to overstate God's word in their enthusiasm, and that may not be the best thing to do, but at least they are trying to impart spiritual knowledge to fleshly beings as if to transform them into spiritual creatures. The brothers who are part of the Word Fellowships, aren't try to misdirect people away from God, they are merely trying to get through to people who haven't yet yielded to God's Spirit to the degree required for them to be able to function as spiritual beings. Certainly a brother or two may run too far with a doctrine, or a tenet in his enthusiasm, but this should not be a reason to tear him/them down. These are your brothers and sisters in the Lord, and you are going to spend eternity with them, or at least I hope you are born again and baptised in the Holy Spirit, so that will be true. If you want to expose truth to the brethren I suggest you find someone who is preaching heresy, and reveal the truth about them. In Paul's second letter to Timothy he explains who it is to look out for. 2 Tim 3:1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 Tim 3:2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 2 Tim 3:3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 2 Tim 3:4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 2 Tim 3:5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. 2 Tim 3:6 For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, 2 Tim 3:7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 2 Tim 3:8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith. Be very careful brothers that you too might not be opposing the very work of God the Father. I trust you will prayerfully consider what I have shared with you. En Agape, Jim |

Jim You said, "If you want to expose truth to the brethren I suggest you find someone who is preaching heresy, and reveal the truth about them." I thought that is exactly what I did. In my two part post I tried to give a thumbnail sketch of WOF doctrine and the error contained within it. While what I wrote is no where complete nor could it be, given the space restraints of the forum. I think I wrote enough to reveal main errors in Word of Faith teaching. Mainly the placing of your faith in faith rather than in God. WOF's teaching also minimizes God and Jesus while maximizing man. This by definition is humanism also an error. No where did I say faith was not important because it is vital in our relationship to God Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. However faith in faith is misdirected, viewed from WOF perspective, faith becomes an entity itself rather than trust, hope and belief in a Living God. Your example of the operating manual of a car misses two points, The Bible is not merely an operating manual but instead it is the Living Word, which becomes a road map of life for those who follow it. The Holy Spirit’s task is not to give new direction but to rather clarify the direction God has already detailed within scripture. By saying we do not need interpretation that the Holy Spirit will give correct interpretation also assumes we as human can turn off all preconceived ideas, biases, prejudices and our own human desire learning only what the Holy Spirit reveals. This is simply not possible and all through history we see men and women fail in attempts to do just this. That is why God gave us the Living Word to establish boundaries. If while we travel through life and we are being lead of the Holy Spirit, but then find ourselves being lead outside those boundaries we can know we have lost God and are now following our own idea and ambitions or those given us by the Satan himself. The Bible is far more important than just an operating manual you read once then begin traveling through life believing we do not need to go back and refresh, renew, and relearn the many life experiences contained there in. Nor can we expect to travel through life depending on our spirit being lead of the Holy Spirit if we refuse to review and hold fast to the very Book the Holy Spirit inspired. If we examine WOF teaching we see the error contained therein is more than just enthusiasm, it is calculated to draw people, to enrich the teachers coffers and blind eyes to the truth. Why else would you teach Jesus as being wealthy unless you wanted to justify becoming rich yourself? Why else would you teach that man with enough faith can duplicate what God and Christ did? Why else would you teach God HAS TO heal you if you have enough faith? Why else would you teach that this “power” called faith can be lost if you view or consider anything that might expose this teaching as error? Can faith more mountains? Yes it can! But does God have to move the mountain if I name it and claim it? No! Psalm 135:6 Whatever the Lord pleases He does, In heaven and in earth, In the seas and in all deep places. I do not deny that some good may have come from WOF, I’m sure some have been saved and brought to a real faith in God and Jesus Christ in spite of what WOF teaches. However just because some good may come out of the teaching does not require us to say the teaching is okay, in fact if it contains error the Bible challenges us to expose that error and call the people back to the truth. In the service of Jesus Christ EdB |

Hello, EdB -- Since the old "pioneer days" of this forum, you have been singularly faithful, persevering, and resourceful in your attempts to educate the readers of this forum on the teachings of the WOF Movement, exposing their lies and deceptions in the light of Scripture. I commend you highly for your untiring efforts. No one can read your posts about the word-faithers and be ignorant of the threat they pose to orthodox Christianity. I've been meaning for some time to post a note of thanks and appreciation to you for your valuable contributions to this forum, and this seemed as good a time as any to carry out these intentions, even though it is small payment for the debt of gratitute this forum owes you. Again, thanks Ed. --Hank | ||||||

Hank You know my heart as we have discussed my feelings about WOF many times. It breaks my heart to see someone tied up it's lies. I thank you for your kind words and your encouragement, I also thank you for your help and knowldege that you have shared in this fight. When I responded to apostoloB's post I wondered how many would see the error he had slipped in it by mimimizing the Bible. I wondered if I would be seen as out of step but to my relief and great joy almost immediately you Hank, Radioman2 and Morant61 also spotted it and commented about it. Now that excited me!!! Praise God for all the faithful servants God has on this forum. I commend you all, fight the good fight. EdB |
