I agree to a point but look again at the prayer of Jabez that is a pretty selfish prayer. James point is don't ask for things we will only spend on our pleasures. Let me give a good example of this. I lady I new In Jackson Mississippi who gave the keys to their house to my brother in-law and sister who were missionaries vacationing states side. They were really impressed at this families hospitality (The house was really nice). The lady who gave her the use of her house said if you ever need to use our house again just call and if we are not home we keep a key hidden in s special rock in the front flower bed. My sister asked, "You mean I can stay her even if you’re gone." She said, "YES!" Somewhat surprised my sister said why do you do this? The lady told her how this was here dream home she said when they looked at it her and her husband prayed about it and told God if He blessed them with this gift that when ever the Lord needed it they would never refuse. I think this is a good example of asking for "Things but not to only spend it on our pleasure." |

I admit that, on the surface, Jabez' prayer sounds like the type that James 4 is talking about. But if it was God would not have answered it. Rather I would "guess" that Jabez was the same type of person that this lady in Miss. was that you mentioned. The text in I Chron. does mention that Jabez was more "honorable" that his brethren. | ||||||
