Perhaps you are right. It may be the "spirit" with which a person prays. Is it a selfish prayer ("Lord give me a new car cause I don't like my old one")? Or is it along these lines ("Lord give me a new car cause mine is undependable and I am unable to care for my family without adequate transportation")? The first is a selfish prayer for one's self. The second is for one's family. Both are asking God for a new car LOL.

David 24597: David, I would say it is more like Lord protect my wife as she teaches today. Let her be your witness in a class that kids are in need of you. For me I might pray Lord you know I want to be in the direct will you have for me. I ask to live a life that is pleasing to him. I often pray for strength as my health is poor. If I live let me live for in love the expresses my faith. Yes, when our automobile was no longer adaquite to do the job, we prayed for wisdom in getting a truck that showed good stewardship. I believe that was done. I pray for my adult children and my grandchildren, and my family, pastor missionaries, and many other areas. You are right the Spirit a person prayes in matters.I first of all I confess my sins. Then not in actual order but I praise Him, bring those who need intersory prayer, I bring my needs before Him, often there are people I promised to pray for, and even those in the Forum that have expressed needed prayer. The list is quite long. I am a little confused as to why you feel its selfish to pray for your family? What scripture would you use to back your understanding of this. Like I said I do not mind dialogue, but please this is only an exchange of ideas or beliefs, not an effort to belittle anyone. Peace. justme |

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I didn't say it was selfish to pray for my family. I said it was selfish to pray for myself (specifically meaning praying for things or events that would just benefit me and no one else). Doesn't Paul say we should do all things to the edification of God's people (I Cor. 14:12 among others)?
