I have the Logos Library Digital version of the KJV. At Hundreds of places within the text there are "little crosses" signifying: "A Greek word occurs that is not directly translated in the King James Version." An example is Romans 8:29 in which Strongs # 1161 Greek word is not translated. Can someone shed some light on the fact of "Why did not the translators translate these Greek words if they were in the original Greek text, and "Does the NASB and other versions ALSO not translate certain Greek words in the Greek Manuscripts?

Baptistbred I have Logos and Libronix the updated version and I can't find what your referring to. the only reference I find to 1161 is Moreover the first word in verse 30. But there is a stong's referrence and it gives the following text. 1161. dev de; a prim. word; but, and, now, (a connective or adversative particle):— after(2), also(2), another(8), even(4), even though(1), former(1), however(6), moreover(1), moreover1), nevertheless(1), now(267), or(6), other(1), other hand(4), others(3), partly(1), rather(1), so(12), suppose(1), then(6), therefore(1), though(1), what(1), when(3), whereas(2), yes(1), yet(25). Perhaps if you tell me how you have your Logos set I can find what your talking about. EdB |

Make sure you do not have "Bible Text Only" selected under the "View" tab of the toolbar. If it is checked, uncheck it. ( The window of the bible must be selected for this option to appear.)

Baptistbred I have logos 2.1f. I do not have any crosses. I tried turning bible text on and off. what I get is an asterisk beside my cursor if there is information about a particular word. I then have to right click and select information which opens up a Strong's definition. With Libronix or Logos X as you might know it. I can hit Englishman's dictionary and it will give me a virtual interlinear bible plus an index books that contain a definition to the referenced word. They might be Strong's definitions, Vines Complete expository dictionary of New and Old Tesament Words, Robert's Word Pictures, NASB Updated Hebrew/Greek Dictionary, TVM and etc. All I have to do is click on one of the book indexes and Logos will take to that definition. In this case there are no words listed 1161 but in true fashion to a interlinear it does not list words added for readability, as in this case “to be” What word are you talking about? The only words in verse 29 that are not from the Greek us "to be" they are italicized in the KJV which means they we added for readability. Let me know more abut this cross is it over the word? Or by the cursor? And what is the word? EdB |

Sorry,I made a mistake on my first post. The reference is Romans 8:26 instead of 8:29. Mine has a little cross next to the word "Likewise". It is a pop-up translation note. Maybe you have a different KJV version, I don't know.( e-text I mean.) Of course this is just one example of many notes like this in my LLS NT.

Baptistbred Finally I found it!!! In my Libronix or Logos x as it is commonly called I found your cross. :-) It is explained in 1161 which says. 1161 [de /deh/] conj. A primary particle (adversative or continuative); GK 1254; 2870 occurrences; AV translates as “but” 1237 times, “and” 935 times, “now” 166 times, “then” 132 times, “also” 18 times, “yet” 16 times, “yea” 13 times, “so” 13 times, “moreover” 13 times, “nevertheless” 11 times, “for” four times, “even” three times, translated miscellaneously nine times, and not translated 300 times. 1 but, moreover, and, etc. Additional Information: Frequency count based on Scrivener’s 1894 Greek New Testament. J.B. Smith listed no count. Strong, J. (1996). Enhanced Strong's Lexicon. Ontario: Woodside Bible Fellowship. You will notice it is not translated 300 times in the KJV. In other versions they add "and" or "in". I'm sure Moran61 can supply a full explanation of why this is translated but to me it appears to be word that set the scene and Likewise was deemed sufficient. Glad we are talking on the same page now. How do you like your logos? I have both Logos and Wordsearch by iExalt. I have tried most other Bible software programs and I find these two the best. Before Logos X I preferred Wordsearch but now the new Logos is winning me over. One thing I like in Wordsearch is Proper name pronunciation. You click on a persons name, city, country or place and the computer pronounces the name for you. Also it pronounces all Greek and Hebrew words found in the Strong's concordance. Take care and be blessed EdB |

Hello EdB. Well, I guess something is wrong with my Logos linking or something. I have my keylinking to Strongs Lexicon, but when I click on a "cross" in the New Testament it brings up the HEBREW # instead of the Greek! Maybe you can help me. That is why I was so confused, the Hebrew # of this means "terrors"! I think this is my whole problem. I have Iexalt, E-sword, Online Bible, Logos x,and Master Christian Library by Ages. I seldom use E-Sword and Master Christian, but the other two are really helpful. The OLB has so much free stuff and I use it as often as Logos x. I Have a very basic Wordsearch program, so I don't use it much. I don't know Greek or Hebrew so I don't use the audio feature. I only wish L-x stuff wasn't so high! I have found that Alldirect.com has the cheapest prices on it, except for ebay auction. |

Baptistbred Your absolutely right, I saw that too. I just changed the H to a G for Greek and got the right answer. I think it is an error in Logos X and I was going to report it. Go look at the prices at Rejoice Software http://rejoicesoftware.com I use them all the time and they are just excellent. Also try to barter a little they always seem to be able to better their published deals. That is the beauty of the Wordsearch pronunciation. They pronounce the word so you can get it right. Also the proper names are great. You can read those passages with all those weird names and look like you know what your doing. :-) I’m glad we worked this out! If you have any other Logos questions bounce them off each other. I learned a few things trying to figure out what you were doing. Nice talking with you. Be blessed EdB |

I didn't know rejoice would barter, but I may try it. Thanks for being a help:)! As I told Tim, the Logos thing really freaked me out! I thought "How does "terrors" fit into to this verse? :)Ha

Baptistbred I'm sorry I was thinking one thing and typing another. Yes Rejoice will sometimes deal but the one I was thinking of is Nelson. They publish in Logos x format and they will always price match with another company and most of the time will beat the price in some way, further discount or extra books. I have a fairly nice Logos library and it cost me farless than half price. We had a Lifeway Bible Book Store offering 60 percent one time store discount and it could be used on an already discounted price. They had the Nelson deluxe libraries retailing for 599 marked to 299 and then with the discount it came down to 120. You got to watch for the sales. EdB |
