2nd Samuel 22, greetings! While I am keenly aware that the term "Jesus freak" is widely used in certain circles, I have never been comfortable with it by any means. I am a regenerate believer in Jesus Christ but would hardly subscribe to the idea that I have thereby been made freakish! There are so many negative connotations inherent in the word "freak" that I recoil at having it linked to my relationship to the Lord Jesus. Even the best sense of the meaning of "freak" -- an ardent enthusiast -- does not capture the meaning of my relationship to my Lord. It sounds too much like being a member of Jesus' fan club! --Hank | ||||||

Dear Hank, I do appreciate your concern over using the term "freak" to describe a follower of Our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Let me explain a little about the song I mentioned: There is a Christian rock group(not to open a dissertation on THAT phrase) called DC Talk. There most famous song is called "Jesus Freak". They actually turn the tables on those who use that term derisively. The chorus goes like this: What would people think when they hear that I'm a Jesus Freak? What will people do when they find out it's true? I don't really care if they label me a "Jesus Freak" There ain't no disguising the truth I think you get the picture.:) He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |
