1 | Is it not FAITH that pleases GOD? | Bible general Archive 1 | vume | 52630
Lionstrong; Can faith be both substance and action? The reason I ask is that there seems to be a whole lot of the mind of God that Man (I) can not understand if FAITH does not take me (us) to It. LOVE..vume |

2 | Is it not FAITH that pleases GOD? | Bible general Archive 1 | Lionstrong | 52672
Dear Vume, I'm not sure what you mean by substance. I realize that in the KJV Heb. 11:1 says faith is the substance of things hoped for. But this is not a definition of faith. God is telling us something about true saving faith but He is not here giving us a definition. It's the same as in Eph 2:8,9 where it says faith is the gift of God, again, not a definition of faith, but it tells us where faith comes from. It comes from God as a gift. But you are right, Vume, when you say that one must already believe some aspects of the revealed mind of God (the Holy Bible) in order to understand or believe other aspects of His mind that He has revealed to us. For example, some people don't believe or understand that God would go through all the trouble of sending His only Son to save sinners. This is because they don't understand or believe what God has revealed about the intrinsic value of Man as created in the image of God. The Bible is the only revelation of God's mind. And this revelation is not a random, haphazard collection of unrelated truths. The Word of God forms a coherent, unified, non-contradictory system of truth. This is why some aspects of the Mind of God must be understood or believed before others can be understood or believed. But again, faith is NOT action. Saving faith is MENTALLY grasping and holding on to the certain truths revealed by God in His Word. Saving faith RESULTS in action. Faith is the ROOT (maybe what you mean by "substance"); action is the FRUIT. Peace, |

Lionstrong; According to your deffinition, "grasping" and "holding" are actions. Substance in a nutshell is the clear picture of Truth that you consider grasping and holding on to as a necessary action in accepting God's Word. Hebrews:4:2: For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. We only profit (are transformed) by God's Word as we mix it with Faith. Mix is an action. It just seems that if Faith is not an action then God's Word is limited in the Work of transforming the hearer of that Word. Work again is an action, so is hearing as can be gained from God's Word (The Bible). I believe I am open minded so if you can expound on the point you are trying to demonstrate that Faith is not an action I will listen. One thing that must be considered is that action as defined and related to Faith is something only possessed by the Word that is Alive. LOVE vume |

Dear Vume, Thanks for your answer. It clarifies something for me. I thought you were using action in the sense Paul used works of the law. And of course you know that we are not justified by the works (actions) of the law. Yes, believing is an action, but it is not the outward action of keeping God's good and holy law. It is an inward, internal or mental action. Faith is not something we do outwardly (although it RESULTS in outward obedience to the commands of Christ). It is an action solely of the mind. John 6:27 "Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal." John 6:28 Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?" John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent." Peace, |

5 | Am I following God's lead? | Bible general Archive 1 | vume | 52822
Lionstrong; Great sciptures that are enlightening and very appropriate as the Holy Spirit beacons. Do you step out in Faith very offten? I ask as I am very interested in what the Holy Spirit has revealed to you in relation to our obedient exchange, it just does not feel right to draw it to a close yet. Forgive me if I have taken too much liberty. LOVE vume |
