Dear Mother S.......... You Wrote..."I watch Joyce twice a day every day Mon-Fri. I have learned a lot from her and I know very little.".....You will continue to know less and less twice a day every day Mon-Fri unless you dump this harmful teacher wanna-be. She wraps the truth around lies. And she knows it. God Bless....Jensen |

I am sorry you feel this way about Joyce. I will learn to read the Bible and then be able to make (with God's help) my own judgements on what is right or wrong, but I don't think it is my place to judge ANY one. "Matthew 7:1,2 Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." So, let's leave the judging to God and help each other. God Bless, Mother

Mother S, I would make the same pronouncement about Joyce as Jensen did and for the same reasons. It is the same Jesus whose quote about judging that you cited who also said to beware of false prophets. Jesus was talking in Matthew 7 about not being judgmental in the manner of the Pharisees; He was NOT telling us to swallow every wave of false teaching that washes ashore. --Hank

"Beware of false prophets." How do I know whether or not one of you that responded is or is not a "False Prophet" until I learn to read the Bible and understand it for myself? I am just saying "I" "Me" "Myself" will not judge anyone. All those that responded included. God bless, Mother

Mother S, false teaching was in the world in apostolic times and it is in the world still. Our standard of faith and practice, and hence our shield against false teaching, is the truth of God's word. That is one of the primary reasons why it is so incumbent on believers to examine the Scriptures daily to see whether the things they are being taught are true. (Acts 17:11; 2 Tim. 2:15) The judgment and the verdict against false teachers is not ours to make. The Scriptures have already made those for us and made them clear to us. But it is our duty and responsibility to pay attention to what God has already said and to act accordingly. We are not being judgmental when we do this; we are being obedient to Scripture. We are most of us prone to have itching ears, and we have an enormous and virtually insatiable appetite for the new, the dazzling, the kinds of teaching that tell us how warm and fuzzy Christianity is and how good it makes us feel. More likely than not, the very things that tickle our ears the most are the things we need to listen to the least. --Hank

Hank, Thank you. You have put into words what I feel and have no idea how to say myself. I know I have to learn to read the Bible for myself and God will help me to understand what I read, but I am scared of following the wrong teaching. What I am trying to say is, what if I listen to your translation of Acts 17:11 and read it for myself and I can see what you said is true, then someone else comes along and has a different translation and then I say ok I can see how that is true. I KNOW I have to rely on God to help me but the Bible also tells us that God helps those that help themself. Or is that also another phrase that I grew up hearing that isn't true? This is why I know I need prayers from other people not just myself because I know I have a reading disorder that only God can take away or maybe he wants me to use that in someway. I don't know what He wants me to do. But I am praying about it. I am asking you to pray for me too. Mother

Mother, let me say first of all that you have amply convinced me that you are an honest, sincere seeker for the truth found only in the word of God. My heart goes out to you and my prayers are for you in your struggle with a reading comprehension disability. To touch on some of the points you raised: (1) Acts 17:11 is not my "translation"; it is from the NASB and leaves little room for variant interpretations. (2) "God helps those who help themselves" along with another familiar axiom, "Cleanliness is next to godliness" are often ascribed to Scripture but are not to be found there. It has been said in jest that both quotations are from Hezekiah, chapter 4, but try finding the book of Hezekiah in the Bible! (It doesn't exist). (3) I can't help but wonder: do you not have a pastor to whom you can turn for counsel and instruction? I've wondered the same thing about other members of this forum who have presented problems and posed questions on which a pastor or teacher in the members' local congregations should be able to, and ought to, provide assistance. (4) Regarding your fears of following the wrong teaching, I have some misgiving about posting specific direction on this forum, but will venture out to this extent at least: Be extremely careful of whose counsel you heed on the Internet, on the TV cable networks, and on religious radio shows. On the latter two media, I can recommend the following list, which is by no means comprehensive, of teachers/preachers who are trustworthy (listed in no particular order): Charles Stanley, Adrian Rogers, R.C.Sproul, David Jeremiah, Richard Land, Chuck Colson, Ravi Zacharias, James Dobson, Vernon McGee (deceased, but his talks are re-broadcast), Larry Burkett (money matters from a Christian perspective), and any re-broadcasts of the Billy Graham crusades. This list is woefully sparse; there are other sound expositors of the word of God on the airwaves. But there is an army of fakes, frauds, deceivers and charlatans out there too. Extreme caution is advised! --Hank

Hank, along with my reading disablilty, I have trouble expressing my thoughts. (1) I didn't mean that Acts 17:11 was YOUR translation, I meant it may be the way you read it and express it to me and I understand it that way and then another person reads it to me and I see that persons way of translating it. (2) I have the most wonderful pastor there could be in the world, He and his wife couldn't be any more supportive. I wouldn't trade them for anything, but, there is one small problem, I was injured earlier last year and due to circumstances I won't go into on the net, I had to move from the area where my church is at and I haven't found one another yet. That is why I watch Joyce Meyer on TV. Yes, I agree with you on the TV issue but some people don't have a choice an then they get hooked on one preacher. I have heard Charles Stanley and really like him but I usually miss it on TV. The other ones I haven't heard of but I will look for since I am home most of the time unless I am going to doctors. I am not taking everything to heart that I get on the internet since it is very possible one of them may be a false profit also. I do use the information as a guide to look for things in the Bible. I do know what it is like for God to speak to me since He has spoken to me in many more ways than I could begin to tell. I have had so many unexplainable things to happen in my life that it could only be God doing them. Thank you for your support and advice and most of all your prayers. Mother
