1 | Why did Jesus have to beborn of a virgin | Bible general Archive 1 | timothy | 261
First, is so that the prophecy would be fulfilled that claimed He would be born of a virgin --- see Matt. 1:22-23. Second, it is generally understood that this was a way that God chose to bypass the assumption of the sinful nature that is passed down from Adam --- "...for through one man sin entered into the world..." Rom. 5:12. Hope this helps. timothy

Jesus was offered as a sacrifice for our sins. For a sacrifice to be accepted by God, it had to meet certain guidelines. The established the Law of First Things which is giving over the first born or first friuts as an offering. The sacrifice for this offering had to be a devoted thing (Lev. 27:26-28) - a clean animal devoted to destruction as a tithe offering. Lev. 27:27 also set forth the requirements for redemption. Therefore, the scrifice for man had to be a pure, devoted thing. In the Jewish culture, it is my understanding that lineage is determined through the mother. Because Jesus had no earthly father, He bypassed the genetic inheritance of sin. The term "Lamb' was given to Jesus because He was sacrificed for our sins. |
